Why you should avoid Proposal Ideas
from TV shows

By Berg

"No way!"

"Way," she smiled.

"You're kidding!"

"Nope," again she suppressed a grin.

"I can't believe this!" he took the small box from her hands. "I can't believe…I mean…wow."

Her smile faded as she whacked his arm. "Okay you don't have to be so shocked," she shook her head and considered his reaction. "Wait. Why are you so shocked?"

"Cause I just can't believe you…I mean you of all people are going to ask for Bianca's hand in marriage."

"Why does this stun you so much?" Maggie asked slowly.

"I mean Maggie," Jamie realized his words might have sounded wrong. "Don't get me wrong. It's just that it took so long for you and Bianca to even get to the same place…and even then it wasn't that long ago."

"When you know…you know."

"Oh I agree," Jamie nodded. "Hun I'm happy for you. I didn't mean to upset you."

"No you didn't," Maggie smiled again. "I guess I can see where you're coming from."

"Does Bianca know?"

"No," Maggie smiled. "Not a clue," she felt a surge of pride run through her. "For once…I've got the upper hand. I love it."

"I can't believe how beautiful it is," Jamie picked up the box examining it closer.

"Maggie? Jamie?" both of them spun around and saw Kendall and Bianca standing in the store.

"Bianca!" Maggie said as she coughed and lowered her voice slightly. "hey…what are you two doing here?" she could feel the blood drain from her face.

"I was going to see if they could repair that bracelet I told you about the other day. The clasp broke. It belonged to my grandmother," Bianca's face got a curious amused expression. "What are you two doing here?"

"What are we doing here?" Maggie repeated Bianca's question and laughed. "We are…" her eyes darted back and forth. "Looking for…ear rings," Maggie nodded. "Yup ear rings."

"What do you have there," Kendall spoke up and reached out taking the box from his hands. "Whoa…these aren't ear rings," she gasped. "It's beautiful."

Maggie looked to Jamie. Her face blanking in expression. "Babe," Jamie spoke up. "I'm buying it for…Babe."

"You guys are getting married?" Bianca asked shocked.

Maggie managed to suppress the, "good one," mumble.

"She's the one. I love her," Jamie nodded.

"I thought you two were on the rocks?" Kendall asked confused.

"Yeah well I realized what I might be losing," Jamie nodded snatching the box from Kendall's hand.

"We've got to run," Jamie said looking at Maggie. "you ready?"

"yeah," Maggie held Bianca's eyes. "bye," she leaned forward kissing her cheek. "Bye Kendall."

"Bye," Kendall and Bianca smiled watching the two leave.

"Okay," Kendall laughed. "Your girlfriend is weird."

"You're telling me," Bianca laughed.

I bet it makes you laugh
Watching me work so hard to reach you
You never gave a damn
About all of those things I did to please you

All that you wanted, you found somewhere else
And nothing could drag you away from yourself

Do you really know me at all?
Would you take the time to catch me if I fall?
Are you ever gonna be that real to me?
Everything to me

"God she suspects something," Maggie sighed and dropped down on the park bench.

"What do you mean? I totally covered."

"No," Maggie put her head in her hands. "Trust me. I saw her eyes. God I can't believe I blew this," Maggie almost felt like she was going to cry. "I'm just going to have to tell her." She kicked some dirt. "I even had this stupid dinner planned. Man I can't believe I blew this."

Jamie snapped his fingers. "Okay if she suspects…lets change gears."

Maggie looked up. "What?"

"So she thinks you might be popping the question. No problem. We'll just make her think you have no interest of getting married, settling down."

Maggie followed him as he began pacing. "You do everything in your power to make her think marriage is for…suckers."

"And she'll think that I'll never propose?"

"Yeah."

"That might work. How did you come up with this idea?"

"I saw it in an episode of Friends," Jamie smiled proudly. "What do you think?"

"It's great," Maggie nodded. "but I still say for a doctor you watch way too much TV." She smiled at him.

Lucky I've been through hell
Back roads and shortcuts I know them well
Baby just stick with me
We'll make it together, just wait and see

Do you really know me at all?
Would you take the time to catch me if I fall?
Are you ever gonna be that real to me?
Everything to me

The walls they close in
The air it goes out
We're left with nothing but a shadow of doubt
Nobody talks, no one is here
It's just you and me

Jamie and Maggie walked into SOS and sat down at the table where they were meeting Kendall and Bianca for lunch.

"Sorry we're late," Bianca sat down next to Maggie. "I found the cutest outfit for Miranda," she smiled.

"Great," Maggie smiled back taking her hand and holding it.

"What'd we miss?" Kendall asked smiling seeing Jamie and Maggie had been deep in conversation.

"I was telling Jamie how crazy the idea of marriage is," Maggie smiled.

Bianca laughed. "Why is that?"

"I mean come on…marriages never last. The divorce rate is how high? That's why I'm glad," Maggie sipped her soda. Kendall's eyes darted from Maggie back to Bianca and to Maggie again.

"Glad about what?" Bianca asked.

"That we don't have to worry about it," Maggie waved her hands. She kissed Bianca's hand.

"Well not now…but someday," Bianca smiled.

Maggie just laughed. Bianca looked at Kendall and then to Jamie. "Maggie are you saying you don't ever want to be married?" Bianca asked confused.

"I've got you. That's all I need," she chewed on a fry. "Wait. You didn't want that did you?" she asked almost unimpressed.

"I…" Bianca shook her head. "I guess I thought…"

"Besides…we're a gay couple. It's not even a real marriage anyway right?" Maggie offered of the last of her argument. She saw as Bianca's face fell slightly.

"I can't believe you just said that," Bianca stood from the table.

"Where are you going?" Maggie asked.

"Anyplace but here." Bianca grabbed her purse and walked out.

"Maggie," Kendall shot her a look of anger.

"It's okay," Maggie waved her hand. "I just needed to throw her off."

"Off from what?"

Maggie pulled out the ring. "This," she smiled.

"I knew it!" Kendall laughed. Suddenly she paused. "Wow…that worked. I even bought you had no interest in marriage."

Bianca sat on the bench feeling the tears fall. "I can't believe she isn't ever going to want to be with me…committed."

"Bianca?"

Bianca looked up. "Oh my god…" she stood up and smiled, hugging the other woman. "I can't believe it…"

I bet it makes you laugh
Watching me work so hard to reach you

Maggie bit the side of her cheek. The phone rang as she picked it up quickly. "Bianca?"

"No," Jamie took a breath. "No word from her yet?"

"No," Maggie began pacing. "Jamie I'm thinking your idea might not have been the best planned one."

"Yeah I was beginning to wonder about that too."

"What happened from the show?"

"What?"

"What happened on Friends when they did this?" Maggie asked as she grabbed the cord and began twirling it in her hands.

"Oh she runs into her ex and he tells her how much he loved her and how he wants her. And she thinks the guy she loves isn't interested so maybe she should go with her ex."

"What!" Maggie jumped up. "Wouldn't that info have been more helpful…say…oh six hours ago?!"

"Well it ended happy," Jamie tried to sound convincing.

"Jamie this isn't TV! This is my life," Maggie began pacing back and forth. "Oh God. What did I do?" her cell phone rang.

"Hold on Jamie," Maggie flipped open her phone. "Hey Kendall."

"Thank God I found you," Kendall said out of breath.

"Take a breath. What's wrong?" Maggie asked concerned.

"Bianca…"

"What about her? Is she okay?" Maggie asked now worried. "She isn't home yet. I'm worried."

"She's…she…"

"Just say it Kendall."

Maggie stood in the middle of the living room, her face dropping with each passing word as she shook her head. "You've got to be kidding me," Maggie slapped her forehead. "Where? How long ago?" Maggie felt sick. "Where is she staying?" Maggie nodded again. "Okay. Thanks." She hung up.

"Jamie…I've got to go."

"What is it?" Jamie asked worried.

"I need to pay a visit…"

What I got to go to make you want me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I say when it's all over?
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation.
And it's getting more and more absurd.
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over?
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Maggie realized just how long it had been since she'd been to the Valley Inn. Knocking on the suite door, she held her breath. It opened and Maggie barged in expecting to find Bianca. "Where is she?" she asked out of breath looking into the familiar brown eyes.

"Nice to see you too," Lena drawled out. "She isn't here."

"Where did she go?" Maggie asked Lena. "I need to find her. I need to fix this…"

"Fix what exactly?" Lena asked annoyed. "Fix her broken heart? Fix the fact that she's been with you for the last year and you never had any intentions of a future together?"

"No!" Maggie shook her head. "You've got it wrong! I do want to marry her! I just said those things to throw her off."

Lena watched Maggie and knew within a second she was telling the truth. "Well guess what? It worked. Perhaps just a little too well?" Lena shook her head.

"I need to find her…where is she?"

"She said something about not making anymore mistakes," Lena sighed. "She was going to go to her mothers."

"What?!"

"Go…don't waste anytime," Lena sighed. "If you hurry you might be able to catch her…"

What do I do to make you want me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I say when it's all over?
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation.
And it's getting more and more absurd.
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over?
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Maggie ran down the walk way seeing Kendall approaching her. "Where is she?" Maggie asked out of breath. "Is she here?"

"She's gone."

"What?! Why didn't you stop her!" Maggie asked panicked.

"I tried," Kendall sighed. "She didn't believe me."

"God! Am I cursed? Is this like a Stone trait? We always managed to screw up the good things in our lives?" Maggie felt her heart break.

"I'm sorry. Maybe if you give it some time…"

"Maybe," Maggie nodded and began walking back to their place. Kendall wrapped her up in a hug.

"I love you Maggie."

What I got to do to make you love me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
What have I got to do?
What have I got to do?
When sorry seems to be the hardest word.

Stunned and totally defeated Maggie let her hand hang on the door to the outside of their home. She and Bianca had decided that a house made much more sense then some condo or apartment building for Miranda to live in. When the choice had been made to come back to Pine Valley they had talked about it for hours. And it wasn't complicated. This was what they wanted.

A home.

"A home I ruined," Maggie sighed. She put her key in the lock and walked inside. The soft glow of the room caused her mild concern. Standing in the center of about 25 candles stood Bianca.

"Bianca?" Maggie walked slowly to her. "I thought…I was worried…"

"You wanted it to be a surprise," Bianca smiled. "Mom always said I had a knack for finding my Christmas gifts when I was a kid…even by accident." Bianca smiled. "The store that day…you were there for me."

Maggie nodded. "I should have been honest with you…just told you."

"Well that is something we can work on," Bianca smiled sweetly and approached Maggie.

"Kendall told me Lena was in town," Maggie felt her tears well up. "I thought I had lost you."

"Never," Bianca held the side of her face. "Maggie Stone you could never lose me."

"You were so mad."

"Well mad yes," Bianca smiled and whispered. "but I'll always come home to you."

"I wanted it to be perfect."

"I don't need it to be perfect," Bianca kissed Maggie slowly. "I just need you."

Maggie reached into her pocket and pulled out the box. "It's not much…it's all I can afford," Maggie smiled shyly. Bianca looked down as Maggie opened the box and pulled out the small white gold ring. Maggie looked up into her eyes. "I can't imagine my life without you or Miranda. You're my family. My loves. And I want to make it official in the eyes of our families and friends. Will you Marry me Bianca?" Maggie asked smiling.

"Yes silly," Bianca nodded and laughed. She felt like a giddy schoolgirl.

Maggie wrapped her arms around Bianca and pulled her into a kiss sweeter and more loving then anything she'd ever felt in her life. "You're my everything," Maggie whispered between each kiss.

"You're mine," Bianca began as a laugh could be heard from the other room. "…and so is she." Hand in hand they walked down the hall to Miranda's room. The girl was laying in bed, reading a book. Maggie and Bianca sat on each side of her.

"Manda," Bianca began watching Maggie. "Guess what?"

"What?" Miranda smiled.

"Maggie asked us to be a part of her family…she wants to be your mom too."

Miranda smiled. "She already is," she looked at Maggie.

"Now…it'll be official. Would you like that?" Bianca asked stroking the side of her daughters face.

"yes silly," Miranda nodded.

"Like mother…like daughter," Maggie winked and kissed each treasure in her life.
