Sam

Do you remember your first introduction to fan fiction?

Nothing specific, although I suspect it was Xena fiction.

What main character that you've written femslash for, would you most like to hit upside the head?

I'm obviously very limited here, but it would have to be Sara Matthews (of 'fastlane'). This is a woman who constantly makes bad choices. Come to think of it, that's what makes her so fun to write about, so...

Is your fan fiction writing limited to femslash or do you also write gen, het or male slash? If so, is there a difference in style or content (besides the obvious) between them?

Strictly femslash, so far, although I have one little story tucked away which, technically, is the first fanfiction I ever wrote, and there is a het relationship focus in it.

Have you ever been tempted to write a Mary Sue?

No. Creating new characters can be fun, but I prefer to stick with more familiar faces.

Are there certain genres you find easier to write for?

I definitely prefer crime drama. I have a thing for tough chicks with guns.

Do you research subjects before you write them and, if so, in how much detail?

I definitely do some research, if only to try and lend some kind of authenticity to the details of a story. I've looked up police procedures, a bit of medical stuff, hopefully enough to make the characters sound like they know what they're talking about. But, I still reserve the right to bs my way through it, as well.

What's your preferred length of story to write and read?

I love a good epic, but they can be a bitch when writer's block comes along. And there can definitely be something very satisfying in reading a one-shot. So, I guess that means I love it all.

Can you touch the tip of your nose with your tongue?

No, but I can roll my tongue. Wanna see?

Are you, yourself, a fan of other fan fic writers and, if so, who are they and what is it about them that appeals to you?

Wow. Now that would be a mountain of names, but I can say that Sharon Bowers would be perched at the top. I would kill to be able to write like that.

Ever wanted to head butt another fan for dissing your pairing?

Never.

Do you have a favourite cliché, one that you'll read with joy even though it's been done to death?

Running into an ex and rekindling that old flame. I'm such a sucker for second chances.

Would you lend me twenty pence if we were stuck at Charing Cross station and I was dying for the loo?

Absolutely! Umm... what's the exchange rate?

Do you find you're more inspired by subtext, maintext or barely there text shows?

I think I'm inspired more by characters, but maintext helps.

Where do you get your inspiration for specific stories; missing or extended scenes from the show, ideas from other shows or real life situations?

I've built stories around specific plotlines, but I also like to create my own scenarios, putting the characters in situations they've never been in before. For shows that had a short life, the possibilities (and the character exploration) are endless.

Do you like cheese?

I like cheesecake. Does that count?

Every read over one of your stories months or years later and thought 'What the hell was I thinking!'

Are you kidding? I do that MINUTES later.

Why do you write fan fiction?

Because I like too much of a good thing. Oh, and I'm a bit of a control freak.
