Triptych Song : Reflections on the Ring Arc
By angharad governal
Xena-Wealtheow (the warrior princess, memory lost)
monsters walk the night-rim.
boys, for fame, seek
gold-red hair against
the mossy green bed of stone.
night-winds howl like starving wolves.
monsters prowl fen-lands,
grim-guardians as
men, for love of you,
burn themselves star-bright
before living fire consumes them charcoal-black.
the stench of burning flesh lingers
like the sweet odor of evergreen trees at yuletide,
dissipating into clean snow-smell,
forests of green-blue.
do i dare face the flames,
spear-sharp, deadly, for a kiss
when brave, foolish lads gladly
leap
into the living red death?
monsters lurk the world-rim,
fen-bogs dark and deep.
Brunhilde (valkyrie, in transition)
what should i do
when i burn?
how can i show
that you have
transformed me
from thoughtless to
one becoming
care?
red death, they say,
but death in love.
i burn
until eternity
for you.
Gabrielle (beauty of legend, in sleep)
like seeds sown deep
in an earth-bound prison
listening for rain to fall.
dreams
flitter, visions of our life.
i lie here
waiting
for you.
