At the End
"I'm going to die aren't I?"
"Nothing to be done this time. No more miracles."
"Will it hurt?"
Soft fingers feathered through her hair. "Not at the end. There's no more pain." Dark eyes smiled down at her. Janet had never lied to her. Sam knew that she wouldn't start now.
"I can hear them they won't let me go Daniel, Teal'c, Jack I can hear them shouting at me to hold on but I don't think I can."
"No. Not this time. It's time to go."
"I missed you. I missed you every day."
"I know. But I never really left you, you know. You just never quite saw me."
"I don't believe in ghosts." Sam gasped at the last intense spasm of pain that ran through her body and then it was as if something unseen yet fundamental shattered and she was free. She took her lover's hand and simply stepped aside. "How ironic is that?" She paused. "We're together now, for always?"
"For always. I promise." Janet reached up to press her soft lips against her lovers.
Neither of them looked back.
