Come Away With Me
By Erin Griffin

Claudia believed that music was some sort of deity hidden within the mainstream sosciety. She believes that if a certain song comes on shuffle while you feel one way, you listen closely to the lyrics and pay attention to what it means to you. As a soft, smoothe sound of piano entered her consiousness, and as she thought of the lyrics to the song and what she was doing at that very moment, Myka wondered if, though a strange theory to consider, the young hacker had been right. She looked out the window of the Greyhound bus as the music played in her right ear. She turned her head to her riding companion, who had her head on Myka's shoulder as she slept on, the other ear dud in her left ear.

"Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can't tempt us
With their lies..."

Myka thought about the events that brought them to where they were, two women on the run from the one place they found the most acceptance. Myka remembered the Minoan Tridant being thrust into the ground a second time, and Myka pleaded with her, telling her that she didn't want to end the world. She told her that there was more than what the other woman had been seeing, and that though the world and sosciety would always be messed up, there was always something beautiful there was well, something worth keeping it all alive and strong. She found herself saying 'We can leave. You and me, together, but please..." and just like that, Helena had dropped the Tridant and taken Myka's hand.

"I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come"

Despite (or maybe even because) of Artie's calls to come back, the two women left Yellowstone and headed away from the state, taking local buses and trains to get out of the state completely. All they had were the items in their pockets (which had included the ipod, stuffed hastily there when she had gotten off of the plane) and eachother's hand. Somehow, that seemed enough. For once in her life, the rational side of her went ignored, and everything else took over. Helena made it seem worth while when she had kissed her at the bus stop while they waited. There had been no words between them for the longest time, and then suddenly when Myka looked in her direction, Helena leaned in.

"Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night"

They didn't look back. Myka knew that both of them would miss the world they knew, but she also knew that they could start again. Maybe it was the one thing they both needed all along.

Come away...
