Heat Wave
By Ann

Olivia stepped into the apartment and frowned; the room's temperature was only slightly cooler than the scorching heat she'd just escaped. Moving to check the thermostat, her attention was drawn to a voice from the kitchen.

"Ahh . . . now that's more like it."

The detective removed her shield and gun, placing both on a nearby table as she veered towards the other room. The vision that greeted her stopped Olivia dead in her tracks.

Alex was standing in front of the refrigerator with her head inside the freezer as she leaned into the lower section. The fact that she was totally naked completed the picture quite nicely. Olivia smiled and eased towards her unsuspecting lover.

A pair of hands slid across heated skin, causing Alex to start, and instinctively, she lifted her head. The resulting thud was followed by steady cursing as Alex made Olivia aware of what she thought about her partner's stealthy approach, not to mention the current heat problem.

"Shit, Olivia, you know how much I hate for you to sneak up on me, and what the hell is wrong with your damn A/C? I come over to prepare us a nice anniversary dinner, and I walk into the freakin' Sahara." Alex reached up to rub her sore head as she turned in her lover's arms. Olivia smiled and tried to pull the protesting blonde closer.

"Oh no, Liv. It's too damned hot. Let me get back into my clothes, and we can go to my place. Once I'm cooler, then you can touch me."

Olivia stepped away and then took another step back for good measure. "Um, Alex? We can't go to your apartment. It's being painted, remember? Paint fumes give you migraines."

Moving to the table, Alex slumped in the chair and leaned her head back. "This day sucks. First, I got a runner in my hose and barely had enough time to slip into a new pair before court, and then I spilt coffee on my favorite suit during recess. On the way here, the damn taxi got a flat, and for some ungodly reason, it took thirty minutes for another to pick me up. By the time, I finally arrived, I was sweating like a pig."

Alex gestured to the pile of clothes on the floor. "You know the rest."

Olivia had tried to keep up with Alex's day, but she'd been much too fascinated with the bead of sweat that had slowly traveled down her lover's neck to settle nicely between her breasts.

The ensuing silence brought Alex's attention to Olivia. The flush in the detective's cheeks could be attributed to the heat, but after noting the location of Olivia's focus, Alex was certain she was the cause.

Alex smiled, her horrible day forgotten. "Let's go take a long, cool shower. Then, we can check into a hotel."

Watching Alex's naked form disappear from view, Olivia wiped the sweat from her brow and raced to catch up with her lover.

The End
