Holiday Short - International Day of Femslash
By sunsetwriter

Olivia, clad only in a towel, walked from the bathroom into the bedroom to find Alex sitting up in bed, laptop (aptly named) sitting open on her lap, thoroughly engrossed in whatever was on the screen.

The detective walked over to the dresser and opened a drawer, retrieving a t-shirt and a pair of boxers. She went back into the bathroom, got dressed for bed, and came back into the bedroom to find that Alex had not moved.

"Whatcha doin'?" When she got no response, she tried again. "Alex?"

The ADA looked up and adjusted her glasses, which had begun to slide down her nose a bit. "I'm sorry, what?"

Olivia smiled at her girlfriend, amused that she could become so oblivious to her surroundings. "I just asked what you were doing."

Alex looked a little embarrassed. "Uh… reading."

Olivia chuckled. "I'm a detective, remember? I think I could've figured that out on my own." She ran her fingers through her hair, still damp from her recent shower.

Alex smirked. "Then why did you ask?"

Olivia came around to the side of the bed and crawled in beside Alex. "Because I was curious as to what exactly had captured your undivided attention."

Alex's face flushed slightly, but she angled the computer so Olivia could get a better look. "Here, see for yourself."

Olivia peered at the screen. "Passion and Perfection?" She glanced up at Alex. "You're surfing porn?"

"It's not porn. Well, not all of it… exactly. It's femslash."

Olivia frowned. "It's what?"

"Femslash."

Olivia nodded. "Oh." Then she shook her head. "I have no idea what that is."

"It's fictional stories people write about their favorite characters, specifically female characters, putting them in… romantic situations."

Olivia frowned again. "OK, I get the fem part, but what is the slash?"

"Well, apparently, when two characters get paired up, the writers note the pairing as Character A slash Character B. So the genre became known as slash. The 'fem' prefix just means slash fiction between two, or more, women."

Olivia's eyebrows rose a notch. "Two or more? Is that where the porn part comes in?"

Alex rolled her eyes behind the dark rims. "Some of it might be considered porn, but some of it is quite good."

Olivia looked skeptical. "And how exactly did you find this?"

"Research."

"Research… on what?"

"Well, you remember that show we watched a while back? Truth and Justice?"

Olivia arched one eyebrow. "The one with the cool detective and the hot ADA?"

Another eyeroll. "Well, apparently we're not the only ones who have picked up on the subtext between those two. You should read some of these stories."

Olivia looked back down at the computer screen with renewed curiosity. "Those two are in there?"

Alex smiled at the detective's sudden interest. "That show has one of the largest story archives on the site."

The detective looked back up at the ADA. "Wait, that's what you were doing research on?"

Alex shrugged. "The actress who plays the almost-butch detective just won some award and I was curious about her." That earned another arch of the eyebrow from Olivia. "Hey, you may think she's cool, I happen to think she's hot. Anyway, one link led to another and here we are." She gestured to the screen.

Olivia smirked and moved a little closer. "OK, so show me one of the good ones."

Alex slid her fingertip across the mouse pad on the computer until she found what she was looking for. She clicked the button and slid the computer over to Olivia's lap. "Here. Read that one while I go take a shower."

Twenty minutes later, Alex emerged from the bathroom to find Olivia still engrossed in her reading. Her eyes darted back and forth across the screen as she read. Alex couldn't help but notice a slight flush to her cheeks and neck where it was exposed by the V of her t-shirt.

Alex smiled. "So what do you think?" No response. "Olivia?"

Olivia finished the sentence she was reading before she looked up. "I'm sorry, what?"

The smile turned into a smirk. "I said, what do you think?"

"I think we should definitely watch that show again."

Alex laughed. "I take it you read Chapter 2?"

Olivia's cheeks reddened a shade darker. "Yep. And Chapter 3… She's pretty limber for an ADA…"

The real ADA slid into bed beside Olivia. "I was more impressed with the detective's… oral skills." She started to move the laptop and her own detective grabbed it to stop her. Alex smiled. "Don't worry, I book-marked the site."

"Well, in that case…" Olivia quickly relinquished her grip on the computer allowing Alex to move it to the bedside table. "How about showing me some of your own oral skills, Counselor?"

Alex smiled. "That's the plan. And I'll bet you're pretty limber for a detective too…"
