4x17: Silvia Learns to Process, Daddy Freaks Out
Recap by Misty Flores

Previously on LHDP: Paco, afraid his daughter Sara was seeing someone and hiding it, asked his sister Pepa to spend time with her in an effort to make sure she was doing okay. Pepa agrees, but Don Lorenzo, Paco's father-in-law, ever suspicious of the lesbian cop he sees as a bad seed, is fearful that she is seducing his grandaughter. When Pepa, at Paco's request, asks Sara to take her to a street party, a paranoid DL forces his daughter Silvia to join the pair. It only takes a little prodding for Silvia to agree: she's actually the one falling for Pepa, and hard.

Later than night, Don Lorenzo (DL), sleeping in the living room, is awoken when the slightly drunk trio of girls tumble into the house. When Sara goes to bed and Silvia follows Pepa into the bathroom (for a hook up a long time coming), he mistakenly thinks that Sara is the one who has followed her in. As Pepa and Silvia make out and begin to remove clothing, a terrified and hysterical DL wakes up Paco and forces him to peek into the keyhole of the bathroom to confirm his worst fears.

Paco instead realizes that it's DL's daughter Sylvia who is hooking up with Pepa. He tries to keep DL from seeing, but when he is not dissuaded, DL is crushed to realize the person having an affair with Pepa is not Sara, but his own daughter: Silvia.

EPISODE 4x17 Part 1: AKA: THE DAY AFTER P&S FINALLY HOOK UP

Scene - Paco's House

Paco, Silvia, Pepa and Don Lorenzo sit at the breakfast table, eating in silence. Pepa and Silvia keep throwing each other small, smitten glances, while Paco nervously glances between them. Don Lorenzo looks ready to have a coronary. An oblivious Sara settles down to eat. Lola, Paco's wife, makes her entrance.

LOLA: Silvia, if I had known you were going to stay I would have pulled out the daybed for you.

SILVIA: [throws Pepa a nervous glance] But we got home really late, Lola. And besides, Pepa and I managed just fine on one bed.

Pepa smirks at the statement, and Paco sweats.

SILVIA: Would you pass the jam, Paco?

PACO: Of course.

A beat. More awkward eating. Internal monologues commence.

PACO (voiceover): Damn right they managed just fine on the bed. The sisters-in-law. Hooking up. And in front of Don Lorenzo. He's going to blow a gasket. GOD.

SILVIA (voiceover): A fling. That's all that you are to Pepa. So don't go losing your head, Silvia, because to her, you're just one more. One of many. God... she's a great kisser.

PEPA (voiceover): She's just experimenting. Like a science project. That's what it is. She likes guys. So nothing else is going to happen, Pepa.

She asks Don Lorenze for the juice.

DL (voiceover): [as he hands her the juice] The juice? The juice that I'm going to squeeze from your BRAIN. You... bitch.

LATER

Lola, who is going for a two day long convention. She kisses Paco goodbye and decides to head out. As Sara follows her out, Silvia decides to head out as well.

SILVIA: I'll go with you. I'm going to the precinct.

Pepa jumps at the chance.

PEPA: I'll go with you. You want to drive together?

Silvia gulps, and glances self conciously at Paco and her father.

SIVLIA: Uh... it's just that ... I have to run an errand - a personal errand.

She skirts around Pepa.

SILVIA: I'll see you there, okay?

PEPA: ... Okay.

Silvia darts out.

DL: Goodbye, honey.

Pepa blinks, but shrugs and smiles at her brother.

PEPA: I'm going to the precinct.

He nods, and she gives him a kiss good-bye.

As DL struggles with pretenses, Paco bangs his head against the door. But when he broaches the subject of the sisters-in-law's to DL, he refuses to even admit it even happened.

LATER - The Precinct

Silvia sits at her desk going over paper work, when Pepa spots her. With a love sick smile, Pepa heads up behind her and leans over her.

PEPA: This is for you.

Silvia is unable to surpress her smile at her guest.

PEPA: Your dad gave it to me.

She caresses Silvia's shoulder, and receives a charmed grin in response.

Pepa walks away, as Silvia opens the folder, she finds a post-it attached that reads: I'm dying to kiss you.

Charmed and smitten, Silvia smiles after Pepa, clearly feeling the same way. Pepa glances back, and the two exchange a loaded smile before Pepa bashfully keeps going.

Meanwhile, Povedilla cleans his gun, oblivious to Quique blowing up a paper bag beside him.

Silvia, high off of Pepa's note, grins giddily to herself and pushes away from her chair, lost in her own little world.

Quique POPS the balloon, startling Povedilla, who accidentally SHOOTS the gun. The bullet BANGS through the precinct, and SMASHES through Silvia's computer, where she was just seconds ago.

Frightened out of her mind, Silvia covers her face, trying to recover.

Povedilla, frightened out of his mind, comes forward as Silvia zeroes in on him as the culprit of the discharged weapon.

Her lovesick buzz has faded fast into genuine FURY.

POVEDILLA: I'm sorry, Inspector. It's just that I was going to clean the barrel, and I got scared and-

SILVIA: And that's how you clean your gun on a regular basis? With a bullet still in the chamber?!

POVEDILLA: I didn't know- I thought the chamber was clean-

SILVIA: Well you could have killed me. Or any of your colleagues.

POVEDILLA: I know, I'm really really sorry, Inspector?

But Silvia is not feeling at all charitable.

SILVIA: You're sorry?

POVEDILLA: I am. I'm sorry.

SILVIA: Is that what you would have said to my father or my sister if you had blown my brains out?

Disgusted and infuriated, Silvia grabs hold of her pink folder and stalks away.

Povedilla is left behind, feeling horrible.

POVEDILLA: [with a strained whisper] I'm sorry.

LATER - Silvia's Lab

Silvia works with chemicals, removing some clear liquid with a syringe and leaving the syringe on the counter as she loads a slide.

Pepa sneaks in and closes the door behind her.

PEPA: Hi.

SILVIA: Hi.

Silvia smiles, happy to see her.

PEPA: Watcha doin'? [edges closer]

SILVIA: Nothing much. Classifying some chemicals taken in the raid. Apart from others, there was an anestesia used by vetinarians.

Pepa, of a one track mind, just nods politely.

PEPA: Very interesting.

She immediately leans in and begins to kiss Silvia passionately. Silvia kisses back, but pulls away before things get any more heated.

SILVIA: Wait-Wait. Wait. What is this for you?

Pepa blinks, confused.

SILVIA: A: a fling, or B: a torrid affair with a superior?

It's a serious question masked under a joke. Pepa, however, just laughs and considers her options.

PEPA: I'll take B.

Silvia pouts playfully. It's not the answer she wanted, but before she can turn away, Pepa already has her by the lapels, bringing her back.

PEPA: Wait, now it's my turn. And for you? A: an experiment...

She leans in and presses a firm kiss on her mouth. As she pulls away, Silvia grins giddily.

PEPA: Or B: an exotic adventure-

She leans in again, but Silvia leans back, just out of reach.

SILVIA: An exotic adventure!

Pepa arches a brow, but plays along.

PEPA: Oh, really?

SILVIA: [laughing and nodding] An exotic adventure.

PEPA: Of course! That's it, huh?

SILVIA: Sure.

Pepa laughs and decides to go with it, kissing Silvia as she walks her back to the table in the corner.

PEPA: I'll give you an exotic adventure.

Silvia's pinned against the table, and no longer able to escape as Pepa begins to kiss her passionately.

But Silvia is no longer fighting it. She's kissing back just as much, as she's eased onto the table. Pepa glances back, victorious when Silvia removes her latex gloves, and sneaks her hand under Pepa's shirt.

The making out resumes full force.

At least until the door opens, and Povedilla walks in.

POVEDILLA: Inspector Castro.

Silvia and Pepa freeze, and immediately Pepa jerks away, as Silvia scrambles off the table. It's too late.

Povedilla's seen everything. And he's mortified about it. Especially given the paranoid glare that Silvia is sending his way. For her part, Pepa looks half amused, half concerned about Silvia's eventual spontaneous combustion.

POVEDILLA [stammering]: Um... well... you two are obviously involved-I mean busy- so I'll just come back- OUCH!

As he whirls around, he manages to PRICK himself with the syringe. Pepa winces and Silvia's eyes widen.

POVEDILLA: OWOWOW. I PRICKED MYSELF! I pricked myself!

He whirls again, and even though he has a needle hanging from his hand, he decides he really needs to get out of there.

POVEDILLA: But no-no-no it doesn't hurt-

Again he whirls, and this time manages to SLAM his head into the open door, splitting his brow open.

SILVIA: JOSE LUIS!

The woman scramble, catching him before he falls.

SILVIA: Are you okay?!

POVEDILLA: Holy crap! I really clocked myself- Mamma mia -

His feet give out.

POVEDILLA: I'm gonna call - I'M GONNA FAINT. I'M GONNA FAINT-

As the women hold him up, Pepa struggles to put a chair under him.

LATER

Outside of lab, Quique, Aitor and Curtis watch as Silvia stitches Povedilla's wounds.

Pepa has gotten the hell out of Dodge.

SILVIA: Jose-Luis?

POVEDILLA: What?

SILVIA: About what you've just seen...

POVEDILLA: Oh... nono-but I didn't see anything. What-what would I see? Nothing. I didn't see anything. Don't you see I'm ... four-eyed?

He holds up his glasses to prove it.

POVEDILLA: I need the- and over here there's like... it's dark - so what did I see? Nothing. I saw nothing.

The bottle of alchohol falls out of his hand. Povedilla realizes that his hand no longer works.

POVEDILLA: Doctor, my hand is numb! Look! [shakes his arm up and down, and watches his hand flop about] Like the tail of a dog!

SILVIA: Sure. You've injected yourself with a local anestesia. In a couple days you'll be fine.

Silvia hesitates, and finally just comes out with it.

SILVIA: We were kissing, Povedilla.

POVEDILLA: A little friendly affection is nice sometimes.

SILVIA: It wasn't a kiss between friends.

Povedilla blinks, and looks in any other direction.

Meanwhile, DL, still struggling with the knowledge of Pepa and Silvia's affair, passes the laboratory, and notices Silvia and Povedilla very close together. He frowns processes that.

Silvia smiles at Povedilla, gentle.

SILVIA: I just want to ask you one thing. That for the moment you'll keep the secret. Okay? This will be our secret.

POVEDILLA: Don't worry, Inspector. I won't say anything. You ask me not to say anything? I won't say a word.

He heads toward the door and gives her a half-hearted salute.

POVEDILLA: At your service, Inspector. Thank you for the stitches, they're going to come out great - Bye.

He shuts the door. Despite what's happened, Silvia smiles, charmed.

LATER

The coast now clear, Pepa sneaks in.

Silvia, in the midst of cleaning up, smirks at Pepa, unnerved by their close call.

PEPA: What... did you torture Povedilla? Hmm? Or did you buy his silence?

She reaches for Silvia and kisses her.

Silvia kisses back, but pulls out of the kiss and runs for the blinds, lowering them.

SILVIA: I don't have to buy anyone's silence. But I did ask him to be discreet. At least until we... figure out what this is.

PEPA: For you it means closing the blinds, right?

SILVIA: Look... it's not that I don't know what this is, but... you're kind of crazy and I'm heterosexual. On the surface, it doesn't look that intelligent for us to be together. I just... I'm asking you to be a little patient and wait this out with me - take some time to see where this is going.

PEPA: Sure... the thing is though... I already know where this is going. Look... I'm basically about three kisses away from falling madly in love with you.

She lets that sink in. Silvia is overwhelmed.

PEPA: So... when YOU figure out where this is going, come find me. You know where I'll be. Okay?

Silvia nods mutely. Pepa drops her hand, and walks for the door.

PEPA: Later, Princess. [she stops at the door] Oh, and .. I'm going that way [points}, if you need to find me.

Silvia smiles, and nods. Pepa exits.

End Scene.

Scene - The Precinct

NOT SHOWN IN CLIP

Povedilla, now with a bum hand, walks through the precinct, taking care of some paper work. Silvia, who has been moping at her desk, sees him, and catches up with him at the stairs. She tells him that she wants to check his wounds, but when he expresses interest in his arm, she dismisses him outright.

Meanwhile, the three buddies of Povedilla, who are responsible for Povedilla discharging his weapon and busting up Silvia's computer (they popped an inflated paper bag near his head, startling him), watch suspiciously, as they think Silvia, as Povedilla's superior, has done something to Povedilla, and he may be in trouble.

CLIPS STARTS

Silvia finishes checking Povedilla's wound, then gets on with it.

SILVIA: Honestly, I really just wanted to talk to you. Since Lola isn't here, and you're the only one that... knows what you know...

POVEDILLA: Oh, no... no - I really, really sympathize with your situation, Inspector but I can't help you.

POVEDILLA (resigned): ... Well, if you need me to be a chick for five minutes, so you can feel better? Fine, I'll listen.

SILVIA: Great look - I'm freaking out. When I see Pepa? All I want to do is kiss her. But before anything happens, I shut the blinds. And then I think, "Well, if I'm so scared of people seeing us, then maybe I'm not so sure."

POVEDILLA: Okay... putting myself in your shoes. If I were to... [lowers his voice] kiss Quique...

He motions quietly to Quique, the openly gay officer in his unit. Amused, Silvia smiles.

POVEDILLA: - I'd SHUT the blinds, I'd close the blinds. I'd close the window- I'd throw the locks-

SILVIA: Yeah, but that's not the same. I actually LIKE Pepa.

POVEDILLA: ... ah.

SILVIA: I LIKE her. I like how she looks at me. When she kisses me. When she puts her hand under my shirt. I LIKE it, I get... [shivers and demonstrates] I get goosebumps.

POVEDILLA[slightly turned on]: Me too. Me too. I've gotten goosebumps just thinking about it.

SILVIA: Just yesterday-

POVEDILLA: No, no. Look - I... I want to finish this because, look at me, I want nothing more than to help you.

As Povedilla puts his hands together in supplication, the trio who were responsible for Povedilla discharging watch in disgust. Curtis (the fro), says he's disgusted with Povedilla kissing ass.

POVEDILLA: The only thing I can tell you, is to follow your heart.

SILVIA: ... but everytime I follow my heart, it ends up broken.

She begins to cry, and Povedilla kisses her hand and gives her a hug.

DL, walking down the stairs, spots the intimate pair.

DL: What's going on?

POVEDILLA: Don Lorenzo? What's going on?

Immediately, Silvia pulls away, and as Povedilla discreetly hands her a tissue, she wipes her eyes and gets herself under control.

DL: I'm going to shoot, and I can't find the charges. Go find them for me.

POVEDILLA: Yes, sir! That's an order I'm happy to follow.

He heads up the stairs, while a worried DL grabs onto his daughter.

DL: Darling, what's wrong?

SILVIA: Nothing.

She kisses his hand and moves away.

NOT SHOWN IN CLIP

In the shooting gallery, DL corners Povedilla and forces him to admit that he knows about Pepa and Silvia. Sensing an opportunity, he convinces Povedilla that Silvia will only get hurt getting involved with Pepa, and tells him to meet with Silvia for coffee, wearing a wire and a mike. DL will then feed him information on what to say, and help convince Silvia that this lesbian thing is a phase.

Meanwhile, the trio of Povedilla's friends have sensed something is going on, and now they're convinced that they're either getting ratted out or Povedilla is keeping some sort of secret. Paranoid beyond reason, they slip Povedilla a truth serum in the form of some pills and some water, intending to later catch up with him and extract the truth about what's going on.

CLIPS STARTS

SCENE- The Cafe

Silvia and Povedilla meet up for coffee, but Povedilla has clearly started to feel the affects of the truth serum. DL sits in a surveillance van outside.

SILVIA: It's a relief, Jose Luis, to have someone to talk to. [Povedilla squirms, and blinks] Are you okay?

POVEDILLA: ... I'm shitting myself. [he freezes, unable to believe he just said that] Shit. I... I don't know why ... I feel a little dizzy.

He starts sniffing the air, and leans over to investigate the air around Sylvia.

POVEDILLA:... Maybe it's your perfume. What brand do you use?

SILVIA: Oh... well -- it's from Michel.

POVEDILLA: It smells like a dead skunk.

SILVIA: What?!

POVEDILLA: Sorry! [notices her breasts] Oh, your cleavage is lopsided! Look, one is leaning more to the right than the other one!

Silvia blinks and adjusts her boobs.

DL (losing patience): Jose Luis! Get to the point, son! Get to the point! Tell her that she's rushing things with Pepa.

POVEDILLA: Pardon me, Inspector. Regarding the conversation we had yesterday about your relationship with Ms. Miranda... I wanted to say something. And what I wanted to say was... that - that- [struggles because of the truth serum]... that I support it completely! You need to just go for it! Head over heels!

SILVIA: Really?

DL: THAT'S not what I TOLD YOU TO SAY!

SILVIA: But... are you sure?

POVEDILLA [shakes his head vehemently]: Yes.

DL: God-dammit, Jose Luis! No!

SILVIA: It's just... I'm afraid that I'm just a fling.

DL: Yes, darling. Yes, that's what this is! Yes, of course! Jose Luis, tell her that that's exactly what it is: a fling! And with time, it'll pass for sure.

POVEDILLA: I think... I ... think that... that's that why would it be a fling? What? A fling, please! I've seen how you two look at each other-

DL: Jose Luis! DON'T TELL HER THAT! What's wrong with you? Listen to me!

Silvia gets a phone call. She gets up to take the call.

POVEDILLA [still under the truth serum, stuttering]: Don Lorenzo, I think ... i think that you're doing this because you don't like the fact that your daughter is dating another woman. And what's more, the stuff you're telling me to tell her I think is a little homophobic, Don Lorenzo. It's unconstitutional!

DL: Homophobic?!

POVEDILLA: Homophobic!Homophobic!

DL: You're calling me homophobic!?

POVEDILLA: I'm calling you homophobic, Don Lorenzo.

DL: Povedilla, you don't have a conscious! Or balls! Jose Luis! Do what I tell you!

POVEDILLA: I don't want to.

DL: Or I'll suspend you! Without pay!

POVEDILLA: I don't want to!

Silvia comes back.

SILVIA: Sorry!

POVEDILLA: Sure.

SILVIA: I'm just a little flustered. Let's see... did you know my first kiss was with Pepa? Do you remember your first kiss?

POVEDILLA: If I could only forget! If I could only forget my first kiss! It was with my second cousin Sebastion, who came up to me and stuffed his tongue down my throat- now he works as the manager of a nightclub.

He blinks, unsure why he just said that.

DL: Jose Luis, what's the matter with you! Find your balls! Don't encourage her! For the love of God!

SILVIA: Well, I don't think I ever got over it.

POVEDILLA: Me neither.

SILVIA: And I've spent years chasing a path that wasn't really me. And that's why it's gone so badly for me.

DL: Baby, no. It's ... it's gone badly because...

SILVIA: But when I'm with Pepa... I LIKE it. I feel like that's what I've been looking for.

DL [stammering now]: No, honey - that's- Jose Luis-

SILVIA: I love how her hair smells. I love how she holds me.

DL [stammering now]: That's not it... life doesn't-

SILVIA: When I'm with her... it feels like... that's where I'm supposed to be.

She's overcome. DL is struck speechless.

SILVIA: The problem is... the fear paralyzes me.

She is near tears again, upset at her own inadequecy. DL is overwhelmed: his little girl is in love.

DL: Don't say anything, Jose Luis. Don't tell her anything.

Defeated, he turns off the microphone and the monitors. Povedilla discreetly removes the ear piece.

POVEDILLA: Let's see, Inspector. If there's something I know about: it's fear. Fear is the thing that keeps us from being truly happy. Now, that girl? She gets to you, doesn't she? [Silvia blushes, but nods, smiling]. Sure, sure, she gets to you. Well I think you need to throw yourself into it. Just go head over heels, and get to where you want to be: without fear.

SILVIA: Thank you so much, Jose Luis.

POVEDILLA: Oh for what? Do you realize this is our first coffee together?

SILVIA: Well, I'm thinking it won't be the last.

POVEDILLA: I hope not.

End Scene.

Next Up: Episode 18: Silvia and Pepa work through their issues, when Silvia admits to her she's not sure she knows how to be with a woman.
