8x06: Stand Together
Recap by Misty Flores

Previously on LHDP: Curtis, Aitor and Rita all got their hearts broken when they made their plays in their own unique ways for their dream partners: Pepa, Sara and Montoya respectively. Curtis, desperate to keep Pepa anyway he could, suggested a threesome, something that Silvia found amusing until Curtis stuck his tongue down her throat. Curtis overhead Pepa's true feelings while hiding in a shower, and was devastated, as was Rita when Montoya told her that he actually loves Marga and not her. Aitor had a bit of better luck with Sara, at least until Sara realized Lucas was coming back in 8 weeks and dumped him like a hot potato.

Meanwhile, Paco, Mariano, and Aitor got mixed up with Italian mobsters and arrested one. The Italians immediately took Nelson hostage. Before the trio could exchange their Italian for Nelson, he accidentally impaled himself on their toilet (seriously). As if things weren't bad enough, Internal Affairs caught wind of them and the Italian and now are trying to arrest Paco, Mariano and Aitor as corrupt cops. Woops.

EPISODE 8x06, Part I: Stand Together

THE BRIDGE: 10:38:01

Paco Miranda and Mariano stand with the dead body. Across the way are the Italian mobsters and Nelson. They holler at them to bring Nelson over, and they start moving. Paco and Mariano move slowly to them.

PACO: My name is Francisco Miranda. I'm 45 years old and I have a daughter. I'm a Police Inspector, and today, I've taken the wrong road.

They continue the tense walk off.

PACO: It's not that I usually do things to perfection, but I act in good faith, I've never left a man behind. Today, I've learned none of that matters. The destiny of a man isn't written in his good intentions or his doubts, or even his most important decisions. Destiny only depends on accidents - that's what they call the butterfly effect. A butterfly flapping its wings in Beijing could cause a tornado in Texas. And the most miniscule of changes could have the most enormous impact on a human life. And we have learned that our small change changed our course completely.

He lights the firecracker, designed to make the Italian mob think they're being fired on. It burns down. The firecrackers GO OFF. Paco shoves the dead Italian forward and yells for Nelson to RUN. Nelson does, but the Mafia gunman SHOOTS HIM in the back of his head.

Paco's eyes go wide with horror and the clock clicks 10:40:00 – and then reverses and we're back to –

PACO'S HOUSE: 08:45:01

If you haven't noticed – this is a 24/the Bufferfly Effect/Run Lola Run homage.

We're back to that morning and the end of last episode, where Mariano, Paco and Aitor roll the wheelchair out and get ready to go, when they're accosted by Trujillo and some officers, who holds guns to them and makes them come down the stairs.

Aitor uses his smug moment of telling Paco they're under arrest to pull a gun to the Italian's head and threatens to shoot. Paco follows his lead and pulls his gun and makes Mariano follow suit. When Trujillio thinks they're bluffing, Aitor shoots the Italian's leg, causing Sara, who was upstairs watching, to yelp. Paco tries to calm her down and implores her to go back inside. She hesitates but does so.

Mariano tries to mimic Aitor and shoots his gun, but it ends up ricocheting and hitting Aitor in the ass. Aitor tries to play it off, and they manage to get Trujillo to give up his gun. He holds it together long enough for the trio to put Trujillo and his men in the storage room, tied up, but ends up fainting on them.

It's 8:47

CREDITS.

9:05AM – Outside Paco's

DL and Montoya burst open the storage shed and find Trujillo and his men, bound and gagged.

Later, CSI officers tape off the crime scene as Silvia inspects the trail of scorches made by the ricocheting bullet. She quietly collects evidence until Trujillo comes up to her.

TRUJILLO: Inspector Castro, would you fucking mind heading up once and for all to inspect the evidence in the Miranda House?

Glaring at him, Silvia strips off her gloves and heads toward the taped off staircase, just as Sara comes down from it. Sara runs straight into her grandfather's arms.

SARA: Grandfather!

DL: Okay, okay. Easy.

Trujillo watches as Silvia heads toward a numb Pepa, who has followed Silvia down. They look at each other as they meet on the stairs, and Silvia takes a precious moment to press against her shoulder and close her eyes, breathing her in, in solidarity and sympathy.

DL: How are you? What happened?

TRUJILLO: What's happened is your son-in-law and his friends have shot at a drugged, locked us up in that closet and then fled. Commissioner, where the hell is Paco Miranda?

Paco is in Rita's apartment, about ten feet away, with Mariano, working to get the bullet out of Aitor's ass. They try to keep AItor quiet as they try to dig out the bullet with a … scraper? I don't know. It's not working.

As they work, Silvia comes down from the apartment and Rita steps into the crimescene/courtyard, stunned.

Silvia and Pepa exchange an intense look as Rita comes up to Montoya.

RITA: Inspector what is this? It hasn't been even an hour since I've left to take the baby to daycare. What happened?

MONTOYA: It looks like there's… an implication that Paco, Mariano and Aitor might be in league with mobsters.

TRUJILLO: An IMPLICATION?

<

He glares at them.

TRUJILLO: Inspector Castro, would you please give us a preliminary report on the evidence?

Silvia scrambles.

SILVIA: …. But I don't have a conclusion.

DL: Silvia.

SILVIA: I have to go to the laboratory.

DL: Silvia. If you know something, just say it.

RITA'S

Mariano can't get out the bullet. AItor is in agony, but when Mariano suggests taking him to the hospital, Aitor tells him that it's HIS fault, so he takes out the bullet so they can go save Nelson. It's 9:23.

OUTSIDE

Silvia gives her report.

SILVIA: In the Miranda house there are traces of blood. The bathroom is destroyed. There are traces of food, handcuffs and a screw yanked out from the wall that was more than likely used to restrain someone. We've found a destroyed toilet.

Curtis brings down the toilet, stained with blood, and presents it to the group.

SILVIA: -stained with blood, and the edge of it also seems to have traces of bone, and lung. There were rats in the house, and a bag hidden underneath the sink with a shirt and personal effects and the documentation of Fabrizzio Capriatti.

As everyone reacts, Rita heads for her apartment. Mariano and Paco hide behind the door with their guns. As Rita comes in, they surprise her, holding her hand over her mouth to keep her from screaming.

OUTSIDE

TRUJILLO: Do you know what the most fascinating thing about all this is, Commissioner? That you also live in that apartment. Seriously? You had no idea that they had a man held prisoner in the bathroom?

INSIDE

Mariano and Paco quiet Rita and explain her to her the circumstances. She tries to protest but Paco tells her if she believes he's corrupt, then turn them in immediately. If not, please help them.

OUTSIDE

TRUJILLO [to DL]: You'll have to come with me to the precinct. [to everyone else] Just like the rest of you!

Montoya's had enough.

MONTOYA: That's enough, okay? You can't start an investigation on the entire fucking precinct.

TRUJILLO: This is nothing personal, Gonzalo. We're talking about corruption and collaboration with a grandscale mafia operation. And if the entire fucking precinct is implicated, we're going to find out! Morales! Get me a warrant for the investigation of every single police officer of San Antonio.

INSIDE

Rita helps Mariano and Paco try to take out the bullet from Aitor.

AT THE PRECINCT

Povedilla is taking a shower when he sees internal affairs officers looking through the lockers. Worried because he has the money stashed in the locker, he asks Curtis, who steps into the stall next to him, what's going on. Curtis explains what's happened. Povedilla tries not to panic, and when Curtis asks him if he had anything to do with it, he denies it. He steps out and tries to hold it together when they start to look through his locker. He denies being Povedilla and sneaks on Curtis' clothes instead, sneaking out. Curtis comes out to find his clothes gone, and realizes what happened when the officers find the money and ask if he knows Povedilla. He quickly denies it.

Povedilla sneaks through the precinct as they announce that they have another suspect: Jose Luis Povedilla.

It's 9:31AM

THE INTERROGATIN ROOM

Pepa, Montoya, Sara and DL watch fitfully as Silvia endures her round of questioning from Trujillo.

TRUJILLO: Inspector Castro, in your career, how many chemical tests have you conducted?

SILVIA: … I don't know. Three or four a day.

TRUJILLO: How did Inspector Moreno convince you to do a test on a substance that contained depleted uranium?

Silvia winces.

SILVIA: He told me it was soup.

TRUJILLO: Soup.

She nods weakly. The group watches in concern.

TRUJILLO: Ah. So that's why you didn't inform the National Agency of Atomic Energy. And that's why you didn't consider it relevant to make a report on the fact that Miranda and Moreno had laced a soup with depleted uranium. Or was it the other way round, Inspector?

RITA'S

Aitor can't stand the pain. Paco tells him to hold on.

THE INTERROGATION ROOM

TRUJILLO: Do you know the protocol for toxic emergencies?

SILVIA: Of course.

TRUJILLO: Do you know how many priority 1 elements there are in addition to uranium?

SILVIA: Mustard gas, Sarin gas, Polonium -

TRUJILLO: Very good, very good. Any one of those elements would have caused a red alert on this precinct and you would have activated the protocol but here, that didn't happen! WHY?

Silvia knows that 'because he's family' isn't a good enough answer. She glances up and searches for Pepa through the one way mirror. Pepa is in agony, as is DL. Trujillo sees her looking for strength.

He SLAMS the folder down as Silvia's tears start to form.

TRUJILLO: LOOK AT ME AND ANSWER ME!

Pepa jumps, ready to protect Silvia when Sara grabs hold of her, keeping her still.

SILVIA: … because they told me not to say anything, so I wouldn't impede the investigation.

TRUJILLO: So it wouldn't impede the investigation. An investigation that didn't exist, that no one authorized, that no one knew about – that of course – never made it to Central!

Silvia takes a deep breath, trying to hold it together. She knows she's in deep shit. Trujillo shakes his head and sits down.

TRUJILLO: You covered up for the Inspector – your ex-brother-in-law, and the friend of your ex-husband. For that reason, I'm going to ask the judge for your suspension for failing to follow procedure and withholding of information.

It sinks in. Silvia tremblingly takes her gun, her badge and her ID and places them side by side on the table, and then shakily gets to her feet.

Her family watches in agony.

RITA'S

Paco tries to keep Aitor from passing out, telling him if anything goes wrong it's up to him to tell Sara that her father isn't a murderer. Mariano manages to pull the bullet out. Paco presses a kiss to Aitor's forehead.

THE INTERROGATION ROOM

While Montoya argues with Trujillo in the other room, Pepa comforts Silvia, kissing her as Curtis, now dressed in Povedilla's uniform, stumbles onto the scene. They're oblivious to him.

DL tries to comfort Sara, but glances at Sivlia.

DL: It's okay, darling. It's okay.

Silvia moves from Pepa's side into DL's arms.

SILVIA: I've fucked up. I fucked up, Dad. Trujillo has a point.

DL: In this house, reason is only one point of view.

Silvia isn't comforted as Trujillo walks back in the room. She heads back into Pepa's waiting arms.

TRUJILLO: Commissioner, it's your turn.

DL: I'll save you the trouble.

He places his gun on the table.

DL: I'll wait for the judge's order at home in case you have any more questions.

He drops his badge next to the gun, and puts an arm around Sara.

DL: Let's go, daughter.

As he leaves, Pepa slides around Silvia, smiling at her sweetly when Silvia gives her a confused stare.

Without a word she glares at Trujillo, and immediately drops her badge, her gun and her ID next to DL's. Trujillo can't believe it.

Her point made, she smiles again at Silvia and with an arm around her love, leads her out.

TRUJILLO: Now this is what they call rocketing up through the ranks, right Gonzalo?

He heads back inside. To Curtis, he says:

TRUJILLO: Bring me a coffee.

RITA'S

Aitor asks for a break as Rita stitches him up. Paco and Mariano leave him alone. Aitor picks up his phone and begins to dial.

THE BRIEFING ROOM

Curtis and Kike walk into the briefing room and find Povedilla hiding underneath the leather jacket. They demand an explanation. Povedilla explains what's happened and says they're not murderers. He begs them for him. Curtis decides that when Paco resurfaces he can explain everything but until then they have to figure out how to save Povedilla. They see the recycle box and decide to put him in there and sneak him out that way.

Before they can do that, however, they're bombarded with Internal Affairs officers and Montoya, who informs Curtis and Kike that they'll be using the briefing room as their command central. He doesn't let them take the box out and instead tells them to go get what they need.

Curtis and Kike have no choice. Povedilla struggles not to scream when someone dumps hot coffee all over him.

THE CAFÉ THAT USED TO BE CACHIS

Sara tries to write a text message to Lucas but can't bring herself to say anything. She discards the message. DL walks in and greets her. He reassures her that it's impossible that Aitor, Mariano and Paco could turn into murderers overnight. Just like she believed in Lucas when he was framed, she should believe in Aitor. She gets a video message from Aitor.

DL leaves her alone to hear it, but quietly slips Leo some money and tells her they're celebrating a birthday party, and to empty the café. She does so quietly.

Sara watches as Aitor tells her that even though Lucas is coming back, he's not going anywhere. He loves her and wants to be with her, and he wants an answer from her as to whether or not she wants to be with him.

DL comes back as Sara realizes the place is empty.

DL: I told her that we were celebrating a birthday.

SARA: Why?

DL: Yesterday I ate lunch with Aitor. He's got a lot of gall, but we… we understand each other. And I can assure that he doesn't have any intention of running away from San Antonio. So we're going to find him before Internal Affairs does. And you're going to help me.

SARA: You want me to be the bait to arrest my father?

DL: I want you to be the bait to arrest Aitor.

Suddenly Pepa, Silvia, Curtis and Kike enter the café, laden down with surveillance equipment, blowing past Leo as they set up on the table.

Curtis and Kike lay down their badges proudly.

CURTIS: Always at your orders, Commissioner.

He smiles as he looks at his band of men, smiles at Silvia, and then arches over to look at Pepa proudly.

Proudly, Pepa smiles back.

Sara hesitates, but hops down from her stool, ready to stand with her grandfather. He pats her proudly.

CURTIS: Don Lorenzo, we have a secret weapon. We've got a plant inside the precinct.

DL: A plant?

It's 9:47 and counting.

THE BRIEFING ROOM

The plant is Povedilla, of course, who is still hiding in the recycling bin.

TRUJILLO: Do we have anything? Keep your eyes peeled. We'll find them.

AT THE CAFÉ-

Sara fidgets with her phone as Silvia monitors the equipment and Curtis and DL go over the map.

Someone throws gum on Povedilla. A random guy comes in and says they've gotten the preliminary reports – the blood &guts stuff in the house is confirmed to be the dead Italian's.

Trujillo decides he wants to start tracking the cell phones for Mariano, Aitor, Paco, Povedilla, Silvia and DL. Montoya refuses to do anything without a judges order. Povedilla grabs his phone. Trujillo tells Montoya that he thinks he's an idiot and Montoya thinks he's an asshole but they have one thing in common: they respect the rules, and the rules are the same for friends and assholes.

Montoya struggles but signs the orders. Povedilla starts to dial – it's 9:52

RITA'S

Mariano and Paco get ready to go as Aitor looks anxiously at his phone, but get a call from Povedilla, who tells them they're going to start tracking their cellphones. Paco tells him they're going to fix this in one hour but for now they need to turn off their phones. Povedilla salutes as the random underling comes in with the judges order.

They start tracking the phones.

RITAS-

MARIANO: We have to turn off the cellphones. Now.

Aitor looks anxiously at his phone.

THE CAFÉ FORMERLY KNOWN AS CACHIS –

DL comforts Sara as they get ready to track Aitor.

DL: Ready?

SILVIA: Okay, we're tracking Aitor's phone.

Paco turns off his phone. Mariano turns off his phone.

SILVIA: Keep alert – any sound can be used to locate them.

PEPA: 45 seconds, Sara. Keep him on the line.

Sara agrees and dials. Thirty seconds.

AITOR sees Sara calling.

MARIANO: Now. Everyone.

Aitor stares at his phone. The countdown continues.

PACO: Turn it off. Any second they can find us here.

He continues to wait. As does everyone else.

PACO: Turn it off, dammit! Turn it off!

Aitor does at the last second.

Everyone loses the signals. Montoya is relieved.

At Cachi's, that's not the same reaction.

SILVIA: They've turned off their phones.

At 10:07 – Aitor can't move. He decides to stay with Rita. He goes over the plan again with Paco, gives him the lighter from his bloody back pocket and tells him not to hesitate to shoot if something goes wrong.

They hug, Mariano and Rita join in.

AT CACHIS

They're still trying.

DL: Try to get a lock on Povedilla's cellphone.

Silvia shares a look with Pepa and gets to work.

Left to her own devices, Pepa can't take it anymore and silently walks to the bar, overwhelmed and trying to get a hold of herself.

Curtis sees her go and with a deep breath, follows her.

CURTIS: Hey, beautiful. Nothing's going to happen to your brother.

He grabs hold of her hands and rubs them comfortingly.

CURTIS: Paco's in a lot of deep shit I know, but he's on our side, and I bet on my life that we're going to come out ahead. Likes always.

She manages a grateful smile.

CURTIS: Pepa, I… I know that this probably isn't the time, but I can't hold back what I need to tell you – hell I'm running circles in my head like a fucking top!

She looks at him. He tries to steel himself.

CURTIS: I want to break up – I want to end what we have, whatever it is, what's going on between you and me. I want to break up. I'm sorry, Pepa, I'm sorry.

She blinks, unsure what he's trying to do.

PEPA: Well Curtis, I… I don't know what to tell you. If you want another time you and I can talk about it-

CURTIS: -No,nononono. There's nothing more to say. I know that I'm a bastard, I'm a fucking mountain climber of love. I climb up, plant my flag, and there I go – to climb another 8000 feet.

Pepa smiles.

CURTIS: It's in my nature. Why should we makes things worse? I don't want you to suffer and…

He looks at Silvia.

CURTIS: And maybe the embers between you and Silvia can be rekindled. I'm sorry.

He and Pepa share a sweet smile.

PEPA: I guess now… there's nothing I can do.

CURTIS: I'm sorry, dollface.

DL: Dammit, Povedilla turned off his phone too.

Distracted, Pepa heads for the table, oblivious to the heartbroken expression on Curtis' face, as he lets her go.

DL: Gallardo, Curtis – CURTIS! Go immediately the precinct. We need to establish contact with the plant. Now. Let's go!

Kike shows him a mike.

DL: Okay.

They grab their guns. Curtis shares a smile with Pepa and heads out.

RITA'S

Rita smiles at Aitor and offers to go get him something to drink. As she leaves, Aitor stops smiling and looks at his phone.

It's 10:16AM.

IN THE BRIEFING ROOM

Povedilla, still stuck inside his box, quietly puts a sign on the outside of the box that says ' PAPER ONLY '.

Kike and Curtis storm in. Kike immediately starts dumping paper into the recycle box.

MONTOYA: What the hell are you doing here?

CURTIS: Recycling, Inspector! Recycling! It's the only box left in the precinct, dammit!

Kike drops in the mike.

KIKE: We have to preserve the environment. If we don't, what kind of planet will we leave our children?

Povedilla slips on the mike.

TRUJILLO: Do me a favor and leave. This is a classified case.

POVEDILLA: Who is this?

DL: Povedilla, Povedilla do you hear me?

Povedilla breathes a sigh of relief.

POVEDILLA: Don Lorenzo…

DL: Remember that you're our man on the inside.

POVEDILLA: At your orders, Commissioner.

DL: What's happening?

POVEDILLA: The Italian mob has taken Nelson hostage – what Inspector Miranda is trying to do is save his life – that's all! Save his life! Understand? And Aitor Carrasco has been shot, but it doesn't matter because Inspector Miranda gave him emergency first aid!

AITOR turns on his phone and begins to dial.

RANDOM UNDERLING: One the suspects has turned on his cellphone!

TRUJILLO: Get out!

He pushes Curtis out.

POVEDILLA: They've turned on a cellphone Don Lorenzo!

RANDOM UNDERLING: It's Aitor Carrasco's.

POVEDILLA: It's Aitor Carrasco's!

RANDOM UNDERLING: He's in a perimeter of 20 kilometers.

POVEDILLA: He's in a perimeter of-

But they can already hear everything.

PEPA: Povedilla, shut up!

RANDOM UNDERLING: I'll have him in forty seconds.

TRUJILLO: make sure all the cars and teams are ready, we go in forty seconds.

DL looks at Sara.

DL: Now. Try and call him.

Sara does, but Aitor has already dialed. The phone rings in the briefing room.

TRUJILLO: Inspector Trujillo, talk to me.

AITOR: Good morning, Inspector.

Everyone gasps.

AITOR: I think it took a while for you to get out of your ropes, didn't it?

TRUJILLO: Very funny Carrasco. Did you call to make jokes? Because if that's what you're doing, I admire you.

DL: Povedilla, get the microphone closer!

TRUJILLO: There's a warrant out for your arrest and the entire police force are after you and you've got the balls to laugh? What do you want?

RANDOM UNDERLING: Fifteen seconds!

AITOR: Listen to me. You don't have to try and find us. We're at #1 General Laureano Vicuña, right under your fucking noses. And I'll tell you one thing, don't bother trying to come get us. Because first we want to negotiate how we're gonna get out of here.

Rita shifts uneasily. DL and the girls eye each other in panic.

AITOR: We've got five kilos of explosives. So we do things my way or I'll blow this complex to pieces are you listening?

TRUJILLO: You've got nothing that you can negotiate with, Carrasco. Turn yourself in.

AITOR: We don't have anything to negotiate with? Listen to this.

He waves the phone toward Rita. Rita panics and tries to deflect it.

AITOR: [whispering] Rita, Rita, please!

Rita takes the phone.

RITA: … uh yeah… hello. My name is Agent Pelaez.

Trujillo winces. Povedilla and Montoya immediately react. Aitor nods.

RITA: I have a two year old baby, who needs me very very much.

Povedilla's eyes fill with tears.

RITA: For the love of God, please do what they say, please,please-

Aitor yanks the phone away. Sara is confused.

AITOR: We'll give you the conditions. We want a negotiator. Listen to me: only – we'll only talk to Agent Sara Miranda.

He hangs up.

Sara immediately drops the headset and runs. DL jumps up after her.

DL: Sara!

TRUJILLO: Alert the surveillance team. Don't let anyone out of the house. We have to evacuate the area.

DL turns back to Pepa and Silvia, arms out to keep them from following.

DL: Stay put! Stay! Stall for time. Stall for time! It's very important!

He goes running.

TRUJILLO: Let's get out of here.

Montoya is on the phone.

MONTOYA: Rocomora, get me three cars, clear out the place and keep a perimeter of 50 meters.

Pepa sits back down to help Silvia.

TRUJILLO: Plaza!

He calls one of his agents.

MONTOYA: I want an ambulance there now!

TRUJILLO [to his agent]: Call TEDAX (the bomb squad). And I want two snipers in case they want to detonate the bomb by remote control.

POVEDILLA: Don Lorenzo, Don Lorenzo did you hear that?! They're planning to bring in snipers!

Pepa and Silvia listen in horror.

MONTOYA: And why don't you bring in the Army too?

POVEDILLA: Don Lorenzo! Don Lorenzo the order is shoot to kill! Repeat – the order is shoot to kill!

MONTOYA: The men in there are police officers not terrorists!

TRUJILLO: Now they are!

PEPA: Listen Povedilla, Don Lorenzo isn't here. You have to stall Trujillo, are you listening to me? You have to buy some time. Do whatever it takes! Understood?

POVEDILLA: What can I do? What do I do?! I can't do anything!

MONTOYA: Do you really think Paco Miranda would kill his own daughter?

TRUJILLO: Listen, I don't know, but I'm not going to risk it!

PEPA: Don Lorenzo has gone to Rita's house. You have to give him time to get her out of there. You have to do whatever you can. Abort the plan! We need time, Jose Luis! Please, whatever you can!

He sucks in his breath and launches to his feet.

POVEDILLA: Everyone FREEZE! FREEZE!

He holds both guns on the men.

POVEDILLA: I'm going to tell you two things: the first – no one is leaving this room, and the second - PAPER ONLY! WHAT? Doesn't anyone know how to read?! PAPER ONLY, DAMMIT!

RITA'S

Rita helps Aitor sit down when someone knocks on the door. It's DL asking for Paco to let them in. Rita hesitates, but Aitor won't let him in.

IN THE CAR

Mariano tells Paco that he realizes that Aitor's right, if this doesn't go right, everyone will think they're murderers. He wants Paco to grab Nelson and run – Mariano doesn't have any family and he's committed a bunch of crimes on his journey, he'll cover for them and shoot.

The car stalls on the bridge.

THE BRIEFING ROOM

Povedilla still holds the room hostage.

POVEDILLA: Everybody against the wall! Nobody move!

TRUJILLO: Listen to me, kid! You're going to point both guns at me now. Okay? POINT THEM AT ME, DAMMIT!

Montoya shakes his head, but Povedilla does it… sorta. He doesn't have his glasses on.

TRUJILLO: HERE!

He shakes his hands. Povedilla redirects.

TRUJILLO: now I'm going to take five steps forward, and I'm going to grab both barrels.

POVEDILLA: Don't come any closer. Don't take one more step! I'm really crazy! I'm REALLY CRAZY!

TRUJILLO: Easy. That's it – point them at my chest.

Povedilla's visibly shaking. Pepa and Silvia sit worriedly.

POVEDILLA: Don't take one more step. Not one more step!

TRUJILLO: You're not going to shoot me.

POVEDILLA: Don't take one more step!

TRUJILLO: You're not going to shoot me. Easy.

POVEDILLA: [weaker] Not one more step.

TRUJILLO: That's it. You're not going to shoot me.

Montoya glares at Povedilla, trying to silently will him courage.

TRUJILLO: You're not going to shoot me. That's it. Easy.

He reaches the guns. Montoya head palms, frustrated beyond belief.

TRUJILLO: That's it. That's it…

He grabs the guns. Povedilla drops his hands, defeated.

TRUJILLO: Arrest him!

Pepa and Silvia sigh in frustration as Povedilla is handcuffed.

He loses his balance and falls to the ground. Montoya grabs him.

MONTOYA: Come on, Povedilla, up.

The mike falls out. Trujillo grabs it.

TRUJILLO: And this microphone?

Pepa and Silvia hold their breath. Trujillo drops it in water.

Pepa and Silvia lose the connection. Trujillo grabs Povedilla.

TRUJILLO: now you're going to tell me WHO the fuck you have on the other end (of the wire). Who do you work for! For the mafia? Huh? ANSWER ME! Tell me!

Povedilla says nothing.

TRUJILLO: This one comes with us on the operation. Maybe there with your friends you'll want to talk. Gonzalo, put together a team with the best shooters in the precinct. Everyone, let's go.

But Montoya's had enough.

MONTOYA: Not paddle-tennis partners, not even email pals. Nor do we share the same sense of justice. I'm not going.

Trujillo glares at him and leaves.

It's 10:24.

ON THE BRIDGE

Paco is furious that Mariano ran out of gas in the car. Mariano says he couldn't exactly stop at a gas station with their faces on every wanted poster. He decides they should call the mob and tell them they've changed the location of the meeting. Paco reminds him that their phones are tapped, but Mariano says it'll take at least a half hour for them to get there. Paco wonders how the hell they could make their escape with no gas. Mariano glances over the water and gets and idea.

OUTSIDE RITA'S

DL loses patience and pulls a gun, but is stopped by Trujillo. Sara watches in horror as Povedilla is dragged in and snipers swarm the patio. Trujillo orders Sara to put on a vest and a wire. She refuses to put on the vest, saying her father is who's inside. DL tells her to do what he says.

ON THE BRIDGE

Mariano makes the call. MONTOYA sees the call light up on the surveillance equipment as Mariano changes the location. Montoya sees it pinpointed.

RITA'S

They get ready to move Sara in, but are confused when they only see two bodies inside. Sara moves forward as DL gets a call. It's Montoya, who tells him that he's discovered where Paco and Mariano are. DL tells him to stay put, he's on his way.

Sara heads for the door while Paco and Mariano get the body ready.

She gets to the door and announces herself. Rita opens the door as Povedilla watches tensely and lets her in. Aitor smiles. Rita kisses her cheek.

IN THE BRIEFING ROOM

MONTOYA grabs his guns. He's on the phone with-

MONTOYA: Pepa. We've found them. Paco and Mariano are on the iron bridge at Titulcia.

PEPA: Okay.

MONTOYA: We're there in half an hour.

While they talk, Silvia loads guns and slides them into Pepa's holsters, arming her before arming herself.

MONTOYA: So call Curtis and get over here now.

PEPA: Right away, Montoya.

She hangs up and calls Curtis, who's at Cantina Mariachi with Kike.

PEPA: Curtis! We have them! The thing with AItor is just a smokescreen. We know where Paco and Mariano are. Don Lorenzo is at the precinct now.

CURTIS: I don't need to hear anymore. We're there.

Pepa and Silvia share a silent moment and a sweet comforting kiss.

Montoya arms up.

Curtis heads out but Kike tries to grab a snack from a waiter.

CURTIS: let's go NOW, dammit!

Stuffing the snack in his mouth, Kike goes running.

Montoya grabs his badge, and with a fierce, determined grimace, flings it on the table and goes.

It's 10:33AM.

AT RITAS –

AT THE BRIDGE-

Paco and Mariano use a recorded CD to make the Italians believe the mobster is still alive.

Paco voice overs that he realized at that moment that for two hours they had been on a journey toward death.

We see what could have happened – the bullet misses Aitor they go, and then the plan goes as follows and Nelson is shot in the head.

Instead, Aitor was shot, the lighter didn't work and they were given another opportunity. He remembers what Aitor said about shooting if anything went wrong.

Sara and Aitor stare at each other as he's cuffed. She smiles. He winks at her.

THE BRIDGE

It's an empty bridge that Don Lorenzo's team pulls up to.

Their guns are out, but there is nothing on the bridge. DL moves forward, and sinks to his knees to discover a litter of spent casings.
