8x12: The Finale
Recap by Misty Flores

Previously on LHDP: The entire precinct rallied together excitedly for Pepa & Silvia's upcoming wedding, but things quickly hit a snag when two dead bodies showed up in Don Lorenzo's car. Silvia insisted on doing the autopsy, but was finally pulled away by Don Lorenzo and Pepa.

Meanwhile, Aitor Emo-d out again when he realized Lucas was coming to surprise Sara at the wedding, and he was ordered away. Instead of telling Sara why he couldn't go, he instead told her there was no turning back when she insisted he go with her.

No one but superhero Blackman realizes that the Italian mob is still very much a threat, as he protects their witness from them, and the entire mafia, led by El Gordo, surrounds the secluded wedding area, where Pepa and Silvia have just said their vows…

AT THE WEDDING

We begin the episode where we left off before. Silvia and Pepa in the middle of their wedding kiss, as their family and friends cheer for them.

On the outskirts, unseen, are the men with their guns, ready to literally rain on their parade with bullets and blood.

SARA: Long live the brides!

The group gets to their feet. Pepa wipes her lipstick from Silvia's mouth lovingly, as the group begins to toss flower petals in their path. There's whistling and clapping as the newlyweds walk down the aisle.

LUCAS [VO]: John Lennon once said that life is what happens to you while you're in the middle of making other plans. And he had good reason.

Pepa and Silvia reach the end of the aisle and under the arch, share another passionate kiss.

LUCAS' CAR drives up to the establishment. Lucas gets out.

LUCAS [VO]: You can plan your wedding, pick the home where you're going to live, and the college where your kids will go. You can even pick the color that your fucking sofa will be.

Pepa and Silvia are both insatiably happy as they smile at their friends. Silvia holds onto her new wife tightly. Sara holds on to Aitor. Mariano and Paco watch worriedly.

LUCAS [VO]: But those plans are only a drawing on a paper napkin. And for all your planning, in the end the rest of the world doesn't give a fuck about your plans.

Lucas grabs his gifts.

LUCAS [VO]: And you can pour your heart and soul into your stack of napkins marked with your dreams, but life will always have other plans for you.

As he walks down the road, more men with guns emerge just out of his sight.

The happy picture of Pepa and Silvia is now seen through the grim view of a rifle scope.

MAFIA GUNMAN: We're in position. We have them in our sights.

EL GORDO, in his van, smiles.

CREDITS – with the addition of 'THE TRAGIC FINALE'

AT THE WEDDING - Silvia tosses her wedding bouquet to her small party. Rita makes good on her promise, and rushes to catch it.

The group laughs and cheers, and Montoya happily plants a promising kiss on her lips.

PEPA: Well at this wedding there are two bouquets, okay?

She readies, and throws. It goes right to Paco. Pepa laughs as Salgado smiles and Mariano grimaces.

A gunman aims and suddenly –

EXPLOSIONS startle the group – but they're firecrackers, set off by pranksters Kike and Nelson.

RITA: Speech from the bride!

The group immediately begins to clamor for a speech.

PEPA: No, my father-in-law should speak! He's the first who saw us together! Yes, yes!

PACO: Let's go!

DL grins and heads forward.

GROUP: Speech! Speech!

Paco checks his watch and turns to Mariano.

PACO: It's been two hours since Lucas has called. Why isn't he here?

MARIANO [coldly]: I don't know Paco. Why don't you ask Marina?

Paco frowns and looks at Salgado.

DL: I was the first one to see them underneath a table, kissing there at Sarita's communion. And I think that gives me the authority to say: LONG LIVE THE BRIDES!

Everyone cheers.

DL: Paco! [Paco shakes his head] Paco! Paco it's an order!

Paco reluctantly goes up there.

KIKE: What the hell is holding up Curtis? He's not even here for the party!

NELSON: Send him a photo – show him how late it's getting!

KIKE: Yes, yes!

PACO: Well, you know me, I'm not all that eloquent. I'm good at being brief and giving orders more or less. So I order you to love each other.

Holding on to each other, Silvia and Pepa nod in agreement. Kike snaps the picture.

PACO: And I order you to enjoy this day to it's fullest. And above all I order you to savor every minute, every second, that you're together. And that's all. Seriously I'm not good at this!

Everyone protests but he's done. The voices fade off when they see the unexpected guest.

LUCAS: Redhead! Your taste gets better with each new partner. Congratulations.

He hands her a gift.

SILVIA: Lucas.

She stares at Sara. Sara's in shock. Aitor's … annoyed. Screw you, Aitor. Lucas hands Pepa a larger box.

SILVIA: Lucas!

PEPA: What are you doing here?!

SILVIA: No one told me! If they had I would have held up the wedding!

LUCAS: No! Today is your day!

He turns around and finds Sara. Sara is struck, overwhelmed and goes into his arms, kissing him passionately.

Aitor doesn't know what to do. Neither does anyone else, who watch the scene awkwardly.

LUCAS: What are you doing the next 30 years? Because I'm not going anywhere. I have something to tell you.

SARA: I have to tell you something too.

Lucas looks at everyone and realizes something is going on.

LUCAS: There's time.

Pepa has pulled out a LARGE submachine gun. She's thrilled.

PEPA: Lucas! You outdid yourself!

LUCAS: Do you like it?

PEPA: Do I like it?!

SILVIA: I love it Lucas!

She's received a bracelet.

SILVIA: Well… aren't you all hungry!?

CAST: Yes!

SILVIA: Well, the banquet is ready. Shall we?

PEPA: Let's go!

SILVIA: To eat!

They begin to head off. Aitor storms off. Lucas lingers to say hello to his friends.

As they enter the house, the lead gunman watches.

MAFIA GUNMAN: They're entering the house. Awaiting instructions.

SECOND IN COMMAND: Understood.

The group enters the room.

SILVIA: Come in!

MONTOYA: Where do we sit?

SILVIA: Wherever you want.

Pepa quietly pats Aitor on the cheek, trying to reassure him and keep him calm. He nods stiffly.

RITA: Wow, what a beautiful table!

Aitor and Sara circle around each other awkwardly.

AT THE TOP OF THE HILL – El Gordo is more excited by a football game than the oncoming massacre.

SECOND IN COMMAND: They're entering the house. The men are waiting instructions.

El Gordo motions him away from the screen and opens his phone.

EL GORDO: Look. My phone still has a little bit of coverage. That means theirs do too. There has to be one tower still functioning. I want them completely isolated. ISOLATED.

The second in command nods.

OUTSIDE THE HOUSE – Lucas lovingly asks Paco and Mariano if they forgot how to answer their phones, and pulls them into a huge hug. They reassure him they're fine as ever. Lucas beckons them inside.

INSIDE THE HOUSE: Sara sits down and warns Aitor away from her.

SILVIA: Sit here with me!

PEPA: You're so hungry! I'm so hungry!

The group begins to settle in.

MARIANO: Well, well well!

Aitor watches Sara, who watches Lucas as he comes in. In a sulk now that his married girlfriend has her husband back, he decides to poutily steal his chair.

He glares, daring anyone to comment. (What a tool). No one knows what to do. PACO immediately stands.

PACO: Here! Here is your seat! I'm so dumb, I'll sit over there, but you sit here, next to Sara and I'll sit here next to Don Lorenzo.

But Mariano is in that seat, and he's unwilling to give up his spot next to Marina. HIS undivorced wife.

MARIANO: Should we all move down one? Povedilla! Let's go!

Lucas is beginning to get pissed off.

MARIANO: The three of them are sitting together like a damn sitcom. Don't let them take the knives – they'll give them knives with the fish and the steak, Paco!

PACO: Stop talking nonsense and sit down.

PEPA: Ready?

PACO: Yes, ready!

Everyone sits down. The waiters come out with wine. Everyone watches everything awkwardly.

AT THE PRECINCT - Curtis informs the cops that the judge is coming to interview Francesca, and he doesn't want any fucks up. They're locking up the station tightly.

He gets the picture of Lucas at the wedding from Kike, as Blackman comes forward and tells him it was a mistake to bring back Francesca. Curtis snaps that it was an error to listen to him in the first place. Francesca gets a message on her phone and looks stricken. Blackman notices and tells Curtis that the Nazis used to break men by putting them next to the cells of the women who had just lost their children and husbands. When they were done crying, they'd substitute them with new ones. At the end of the week the men were as fragile and vulnerable as newborn children. He says that the Mafia understands fear and the judge could be compromised because she has family that could be used against her.

Curtis can't believe he would infer that, and thanks Blackman for saving his and Francesca's life and asks him to leave. Blackman does, but before he does, he kneels in front of Francesca as she thanks him.

BLACKMAN: To be afraid isn't wrong. What's wrong is letting fear dominate your life. Because then you won't have a life – only fear.

AT THE WEDDING - the hitmen continue getting closer to the house. They radio in that they're in position. The second in command tells them to wait for orders.

INSIDE – The meal is served, as everyone tries to ignore the elephant in the room.

MARIANO: This fried shrimp is awesome!

PACO: Pass me one!

Salgado does, right over Mariano. Pepa watches that triangle, then turns her head and watches the other triangle at work. She sighs in annoyance.

PEPA: Tell us, Lucas, about North Carolina, you're being really quiet!

LUCAS: Well it's not that different. Well, the only real difference is that the infiltration and narcotics are actually done by the government.

KIKE: Over there democracy rules, no?

MARIANO: We should take a page, Don Lorenzo!

DL: We have it under control, Mariano. How was the food?

LUCAS: The food was good! I like hamburgers-

Paco talks quietly to Mariano.

PACO: Mariano if this gets complicated, I'll grab Lucas and you grab Aitor okay? If you have to give him two punches then you do.

MARIANO: So you can handle Lucas and I can handle Aitor? Damn they'll break our faces-

PACO: If we don't they're gonna fuck up the wedding, dammit!

Lucas tries to serve Aitor wine. Aitor covers his cup.

LUCAS: Wine?

AITOR: No.

Everyone shuts up.

AITOR: I'm going to the bar for a beer. You can keep telling your stories, and I'll catch up with the rest of it when the movie comes out.

He storms off. Lucas is getting rapidly annoyed. I'm already there. Everyone sits in uncomfortable silence.

LUCAS: I'm going to get a beer too.

He gets up angrily. Sara panics and reaches for a cigarette. As they both walk out, Lucas stares at her knowingly. Sara is ready to shit a brick. Lucas enters the pantry.

LUCAS: Get another one.

Aitor glowers.

INSIDE –

MARIANO: Fuck, they're alone in the same room – they'll rip each other's heads off!

PACO: Maybe they'll just talk.

MARIANO: Sure they'll talk like two fighting roosters would talk!

Aitor gives Lucas a beer and stares at him challengingly.

OUTSIDE – Sara smokes her cigarette, unaware that she's got a rifle pinned on her.

INSIDE- everyone sits awkwardly at the table.

POVEDILLA: Inspector – what are these – shrimp or prawns?

PACO: Prawns.

LUCAS thanks Aitor for taking care of Sara. Aitor is a tool and tells Lucas he told him Sara wouldn't want for anything.

THE MAFIA cuts the last tower.

EL GORDO: Good job. And now, let the party begin.

He nods and heads out and tells the group to begin.

INSIDE: The group sits in awkward silence.

MARIANO: They're taking a long time aren't they Paco? They could have finished the beers in here!

Lucas moves toward Aitor but instead of smashing his face in, gives him a hug. Sara keeps smoking, heading further out of the house.

SILVIA sees Lucas through the window and gets up to get a better look. Sara is in the cross hairs.

A SINGLE SHOT RINGS OUT. Everyone looks around, unsure of what happened.

PACO: What was that?

Silvia grabs hold of Pepa's hand, and that's when Pepa finally sees Silvia's other hand come away from her abdomen – she's been hit, and she's dripping blood. Pepa and Don Lorenzo cry out as Silvia staggers.

Lucas realizes what's going to happen.

LUCAS: ON THE FLOOR!

PACO: ON THE FLOOR!

The shots start RAINING in. Pepa and Don Lorenzo bring Silvia to the ground, as everyone hits the deck.

The bullets are never ending. Sara hides behind a car, Lucas and Aitor are stuck in the kitchen. Both waiters are hit.

El Gordo listens happily. Lucas realizes Sara is outside.

LUCAS: FUCK!

AITOR: Where are you going!?

LUCAS: SARA!

Aitor runs after him.

PEPA holds Silvia down and remembers her gift. As the bullets keep coming she grabs hold of the box and unearths her new gun.

Lucas and Aitor make it to the side of the house. Lucas sees Sara's location and tells Aitor that Sara's out of danger – they don't have an angle to shoot her.

INSIDE – Pepa puts together her gun, as Paco realizes that Sara is still outside. He tries to get her but Salgado holds him back.

Pepa makes it to the window just as the shooting stops and the head gunman orders two men up to the house.

One of them gets in line of Sara, but as he's about to fire PEPA CUTS THEM BOTH DOWN.

Lucas sighs in relief.

AITOR: Paco! Sara's okay!

Lucas turns and quickly shoots another. Aitor pulls out his phone and reports there is no coverage. Lucas responds that they've probably cut the lines. He tells Aitor to go back inside, but Aitor refuses to go. They make it up to the porch, and Lucas brings down another gunman. He then shows Aitor that he's out of bullets.

IN THE VAN – El Gordo is more upset about the game than he is the massacre he is ordering. The second in command tells him it might take more time since some of the guests came armed. El Gordo can't believe that people would come to a wedding armed. He tells him to take care of it, since he's watching the game.

The Second in Command tells the group to stop firing, he's on the way.

INSIDE: Everyone is on the floor in quiet shock.

MARIANO: Who the fuck is shooting at us?

PACO: Everyone okay?

KIKE: The waiter is dead!

Don Lorenzo lifts up Silvia.

DL: Come on, help me!

Rita does. Pepa watches, trapped by the window.

DL: Be careful of the wound.

SILVIA: Dad, relax okay. Try to keep pressure on the wound.

DL: Let's go.

RITA: We can go to the wine cellar!

Pepa watches in agony as her new bride is being carried out, still giving instructions.

SILVIA: Help the waiter. We'll go the wine cellar.

PEPA can't take it anymore and heads for Silvia. Montoya is hunched over in pain.

PEPA: Montoya! 26 bullets left.

He takes it as she rushes to take Rita's place next to Silvia.

RITA: Let's go!

As they go, Rita grabs hold of the waiter still alive. Montoya nods to Paco and then gets up, he winces silently.

Paco goes to Salgado to see if she's alright. Mariano watches jealously. Povedilla asks Montoya what he can do. Montoya says to find a gun.

IN THE WINE CELLAR - Pepa, Silvia and DL lead Rita and the waiter into the wine cellar. DL notices the sheets covering the wine barrels. To Pepa-

DL: Bring those sheets – those on the left.

Pepa runs and grabs them.

DL: Bring them here.

UPSTAIRS – Salgado huddles with Paco.

MARINA: Paco. It's the mafia. This is the work of El Gordo.

WINECELLAR – Silvia tries to hold in her pain as DL leads her forward. Pepa grabs the sheets.

DL: Spread them out here. Right there!

She does.

UPSTAIRS – Kike checks his cellphone.

KIKE: We're cut off. There isn't enough coverage to even make an emergency call.

WINECELLAR – Rita helps the waiter down as Silvia tries to hold herself together as Pepa and DL ease her to the floor.

DL: Sit down.

Silvia is in agony, but she's still the only doctor in the place. She winces.

SILVIA: Rita.

RITA: Yes?

SILVIA: Take off his shirt.

She does, as Pepa and DL help Silvia, who can't keep quiet in her pain.

DL: Fall back… let's go… let yourself fall. There…

UPSTAIRS: Paco notices Montoya has a wound on his leg.

PACO: Montoya.

MONTOYA: It's just a scratch.

He breathes in and stands his ground.

WINE CELLAR: Silvia CRIES out as DL & Pepa help her lay on the floor.

DL: It's over.

SILVIA: Rita.

RITA: Yes, darling?

SILVIA: Look, there's no ecchymosis (bruising) at the entry wound, check to see if there's an exit wound?

Rita starts to check. Now that Silvia's on the ground, Pepa can really see her new wife's state: shot, bleeding, and in agony. She shares a glance with DL, and tries to hold it together.

RITA: Yes, right above the scapula.

SILVIA: Then there's no problem with ventilation. Cover the wound and immobilize the arm. It's not serious.

RITA: Okay.

She gets to work.

Silvia's voice gets quieter and she addresses Pepa lovingly.

SILVIA: Bring me something to cut with, Pepa. Bring me some scissors.

Pepa immediately rises to do so.

SILVIA: And now we're going to concentrate on the patient with the grave injury, Dad.

Pepa stops, and stares at her.

DL: I guess… I guess that's you, right?

He kisses her brow.

SILVIA: Relax.

DL: I'm relaxed.

Pepa feels the panic rising in her again and she fumbles for the scissors and runs to Silvia's side to give DL the scissors.

PEPA: Here.

SILVIA: Okay dad. Help me cut the dress.

DL: The dress?

SILVIA: Yes.

Pepa watches with tears in her eyes as the scissors cut into Silvia's bloodsoaked dress. Rita, putting pressure on the waiter's wound, begins to cry.

OUTSIDE – Sara is stuck behind the car, and eyes a fallen man's gun. She tries to get it but is pinned by a barrage of gunfire. Lucas decides he's going to try to get to Sara, but Aitor helpfully points out that they'll kill him. He resolves that they go together.

INSIDE – Paco tells the group that they have to barricade the windows or they'll be sitting ducks. They turn over the tables.

WINECELLAR – DL rips open the dress. Silvia cries out. The wound spurts blood. It looks horrific.

DL and Pepa share a horrified look as Silvia cries out again. Rita cries. DL does what he can, and covers the seeping wound with a cloth.

SILVIA: Pepa, I need a mirror.

Rita reaches up and grabs a mirror from the table, handing it to Pepa. Pepa brings it over.

DL: Give it to me.

He tries to position it so that Silvia can see the wound.

DL: There?

SILVIA: Yes. A Little more to the right.

She takes a look at the wound.

SILVIA: The bullet is in the abdominal area… and by… and by the looks of it, it seems like its perforated the stomach, but I can't tell exactly… Dad, I have to know if there's peritoneal irritation… Rita!!

RITA: Tell me?

SILVIA: Bring me a 1st aid kit, boiling water, lemons, razor blades and rum.

Rita: Rum?

Silvia: Rum.

Rita: Rum, alright.

She gets up shakily to do Silvia's bidding.

DL: Rum!? Why?

SILVIA: Dad… you're going to have to operate on me.

Startled, he looks at Pepa.

DL: Me?!

SILVIA: Yes.

Frozen and terrified, Pepa doesn't know what to do.

UPSTAIRS: Paco and his men and Salgado barricade the doors as Rita comes up from the cellar.

She presses against the door and tries to hold herself together, but the shooting starts all over again.

MARIANO: Be careful, Rita!

She rushes through the room and goes into the kitchen (Shallow note - Rita has awesome legs).

Salgado deduces there has to be no less than 30 men with assault rifles and submachine guns. Lucas calls Paco. Mariano tries to figure out what he means, but Paco figures out that he needs them to cover him. They try to figure out how many guns they have. Rita comes by with the supplies requested.

Nelson picks up an antique gun from the wall. He thinks it could work if they stuff it with something. Povedilla argues that it won't. Paco says that if it does they have one more gun, he orders Nelson, Kike and Povedilla to work on it, as Rita makes it back.

WINECELLAR: Don Lorenzo staggers into the cellar, carrying the tub of stuff Rita put together. Pepa is still with Silvia, but is clearly going into some sort of shock.

DL: Pepa, how is she?

PEPA: Fine…

Pepa takes the rum and watches Silvia in pain, keeping pressure on the wound. DL begins to search through the things Rita's collected.

DL: Well, let's see what we have in this first aid kit?

Pepa helps Silvia drink from the Rum bottle. As DL goes through the kit, Silvia clutches onto her hand.

DL: Some Nolotil, Ibuprophen, throat tablets – Betadine – hypodermic syringe – bandages – ammonia – lemons – and the razor you asked for.

SILVIA: Okay, take the blade out.

DL does as directed.

DL: One moment, there it's done. What do I do now?

SILVIA: You have to prepare a homemade local anesthetic, right. If not, I won't be able to guide the operation.

DL: And…how do I do that?

Silvia: Let's see, the throat tablets –

She groans in pain. Pepa is besides herself.

SILVIA: The throat tablets contain 2mg of Benzocaine. Crush them, mix them with the lemon juice, dilute the Nolotil, the ibuprophen… and you have to inject it into me with small injections around the wound.

DL does what she tells him too, and cooks the mixture in a spoon. He prepares the syringe.

DL: Almost there, darling.

OUTSIDE - Sara sneaks into the car she's hiding behind and tries to find anything that can help her. She finds a radio but there's no one there to pick up her distress calls.

Meanwhile- inside Nelson, Povedilla and Kike finish loading the antique rifles and take their positions with the rest of the group.

WINECELLAR: DL brings over the syringe and materials. Silvia is getting weaker by the second.

DL: Okay this… this is done.

SILVIA: Okay.

DL: One second…

SILVIA: Inject me.

DL: I'll inject you-

SILVIA: Do it.

DL: I'm going to - move that –

Pepa removes the bandage.

SILVIA: Inject me.

He begins to inject her, small injections around the wound.

DL: Here?

She hisses in pain.

SILVIA: Yes.

He keeps going. Pepa winces at Silvia's obvious pain.

DL: Does it hurt?

SILVIA: No.

He finishes up.

DL: Okay.

SILVIA: Okay. The bullet is lodged in the gastro-omentral branch. It's nicked the liver and affected the descending aorta.

DL: Okay…

SILVIA: You have to extract it if not… well you're going to have eat the wedding cake without me.

It's a bad joke, and the realization that Silvia might die affects Pepa profoundly, but DL keeps his calm.

DL: Well, we're going to do everything possible, of course we are! What do I do now, daughter?

SILVIA: Now you have to make a horizontal incision about five centimeters across.

DL: Move that.

Pepa removes the compress and grips Silvia's hand.

SILVIA: A little below the wound.

DL: Here?

SILVIA: Yes.

He tries to hold the blade steady but he can't bring himself to cut her. The blade trembles. Pepa's panic is beginning to overwhelm her and she slides her hand from Silvia's grip. DL keeps trying.

DL: Wait, wait… one second…

Silvia grabs hold of his wrist and looks at him reassuringly.

SILVIA: Dad… Dad. Dad. [She smiles] Relax. You're going to do a great job. You were always the best at carving the turkey at Christmas.

DL: But this bird we're going to have carve together, right?

But Silvia's lost a lot of blood, and it's getting to her.

SILVIA: No, just you, Dad. I think I'm going to faint-

And she does, head falling back. Pepa is paralyzed with fear and shock. DL tries to wake her up.

DL: Silvia! Silvia! Silvia my love, wake up! PEPA!

But Pepa is so overwhelmed she's nearly catatonic.

DL: Pepa, say something please!

UPSTAIRS - Paco gives the orders to help back up Lucas. They're going to pass Pepa's gun along the wall, giving cover to Lucas and Aitor.

He orders them to start firing and they do, passing the gun along, counting down the bullets left in it. Lucas and AItor take cover against the bushes. Sara calls out to them but they tell her not to move.

Povedilla picks up the antique and fires – the kickback KNOCKS him off his feet and FLINGS him into a table – BREAKING his back.

Paco orders them to stop firing – Mariano disobeys. Paco reprimands him but Mariano says he didn't hear him ask him for permission to take his wife to this wedding. Salgado is uncomfortable.

Rita goes to Povedilla but he can't move – he's paralyzed from the waist down, but he tries to reassure him. He tells Kike and Nelson to reload the gun but they can't find anything to load it with. Povedilla hesitates but then takes out his wedding ring, which he's kept hiding underneath his shirt on a chain. Rita sees it and is overcome. She tells Kike to take her jewelry as well.

Povedilla tells her that he never thought he could handle seeing her with another man, but he's very happy for her. Montoya is a good man. Montoya watches them but is unable to mask his pain. Rita smiles at Povedilla and says she's going to get some alcohol to take care of Montoya's wound. She leaves Povedilla, who tries to move away from the table with his hands.

AT THE PRECINCT- The judge arrives, and congratulates Curtis on the precinct's job against the Mafia. He assures her the precinct is secure, but then Blackman comes out of the elevator and pulls her into it.

She starts to panic but Blackman assures her he means her no harm.

AT THE WEDDING- Lucas and Aitor are pinned behind some bushes. They start to argue about Sara (great timing, guys). Meanwhile Sara looks in the car and finds a bottle. She starts to take gas out of the car and rips a wick out of her dress.

AT THE PRECINCT - Curtis tries to pry the elevator open. Blackman asks the judge what it feels like to be the mafia's number one target. If she's afraid. The Judge responds that when she gave birth to her son, her two body guards were there with her – the most intimate moment of her life. She asks if he wants to tell her about living with a target on her head. He nods, satisfied.

OUTSIDE THE ELEVATOR – the elevator moves again, up and down and finally opens: to the judge alone. She tells them to relax, he's gone.

AT THE HOUSE - Salgado and Paco holds hands. Mariano gets up and says he thinks he can negotiate with them. Paco forbids it and Salgado backs him up – the mafia doesn't negotiate. Mariano can't believe he would sick Salgado on him instead of trusting him. Mariano reminds him that Silvia's bleeding out downstairs and they're all going to die. He asks him if he has a better idea. Paco tells him if he leaves, he'll shoot Mariano himself.

WINECELLAR: Silvia's still unconscious, Don Lorenzo is trying to wake her up. Pepa remains catatonic.

DL: Silvia. Pepa, give me the ammonia that's up there. Silvia, my love, wake up! Pepa!

But Pepa stares blindly at Silvia, not seeing, not hearing.

DL: Pepa, what's happened to you! Can't you hear me! Help me! Pepa!

He grabs hold of her. She remains stiff, fixated on the image of Silvia, bleeding and unconscious.

DL: What's happening to you! Look at me! Pepa!

He manages to get her up, and the action brings Pepa back, only to collapse in hysterical tears.

DL: Hear me! What's happening to you! Listen to me. What's happening?

PEPA: [sobbing]: I can't. I can't. I can't see her, Don Lorenzo, I can't.

She's broken and terrified.

PEPA: Since I was fifteen years old I've been running from everything that hurt me. It was really easy, I just got in my car and went to another city. But not this time! I can't leave running! The person I love most in this world is on the floor bleeding to death and I'm terrified! I can't get up and get closer to her without falling, I can't! I can't!

DL starts crying.

DL : I'm scared too. I've never in my life imagined seeing my little girl like this, but you're her girl and I'm her dad, right? And we're going to get our redhead to tell us what to do, and we're going to remove that fucking bullet from her body.

Pepa nods valiantly. Don Lorenzo grabs hold of her and embraces her.

DL: Okay?

They hold each other.

SILVIA: [OS] Pepa?

They jump.

DL: Silvia!

She's in pain, but awake. They scramble to her side and Pepa smiles for her bride as Silvia looks for her.

UPSTAIRS- Montoya staggers to the ground, and checks to see that no one's looking, before he opens up his jacket and reveals a bloody wound in his side. He's terrified, but sucks in his breath and breathes through the pain as he rips off part of the curtain and stuffs it inside the shirt.

When he sees Rita coming, he closes his jacket and smiles bravely at her and tells her it doesn't hurt (the leg wound). He watches her wistfully and tells her he always arrives late to everything. Rita tells him not to worry – all roads lead to Rome, he'll get there eventually, and they have all the time in the world. He smiles at her, and they embrace lovingly.

WINECELLAR- DL tries again to cut Silvia, but his nerves are getting the better of him. Pepa is now cradling Silvia on her lap.

SILVIA: Dad.

She grabs hold of him gently.

SILVIA: You have to handle the blade as if you had a bird in your hands. With firmness but without strangling it.

He tries again.

UPSTAIRS - everyone huddles down, lost in a horrible situation.

WINECELLAR- Don Lorenzo is trying to cut into Silvia, but she just cries in pain. He cries.

DL: I can't! I've lost sixty years in the shooting gallery. My aim has slipped 10 to 15 centimeters. And I say it's not true. I blame the calibration of the gun. My hands shake… But I'm going to try.

Pepa nods at him resolutely.

DL: Let's go, Pepa.

He tries again.

UPSTAIRS –

PACO: Rita… how's Silvia?

Her face says it all. Everyone takes that in somberly.

IN THE WINECELLAR – Silvia cries out again. Pepa grabs hold of DL's hand.

PEPA: Don Lorenzo. I'll do it.

He nods.

UPSTAIRS – Paco gets to his feet.

PACO: What's happened? Huh? Why all the long faces? I don't want any sad faces! It's the wedding of my sister and my sister-in-law, so I don't want any sad faces, is that clear?

They stare at him.

PACO: Povedilla, hand out the cigars. Now!

Povedilla salutes.

OUTSIDE – Lucas and Aitor argue again about Sara and what she wants. Aitor starts to mouth off so Lucas elbows him in the face. I cheer.

WINECELLAR - Pepa prepares to cut into Silvia, who writhes in pain.

LUCAS AND AITOR keep fighting.

PACO tries to keep the moral up.

PACO: Come on. We Want a Kiss!

Rita starts crying.

PACO: Come on. WE WANT A KISS.

Quietly, Montoya joins in.

MONTOYA: WE WANT A KISS.

One by one, the others join in and it gets louder.

IN THE WINECELLAR - Pepa, Silvia and DL hear the chorus.

Rita and Nelson cry, but they keep chanting.

PEPA smiles at Silvia.

PEPA: I think that's for us, Redhead.

The chanting continues.

Pepa leans forward lovingly, and mouths, "I love you" to Silvia before she kisses her gently. The adoring smile she receives is genuine as Silvia glances back at her father.

SILVIA: I hope they won't make us dance the waltz.

Pepa hears that and returns to her zen, making the incision.

MEANWHILE – the chanting continues, and Mariano, emo, grabs hold of Silvia's veil and marches toward the door unseen.

Aitor and Lucas continue to hit each other, but stop when they hear Mariano waving the white flag and asking the men not to shoot. Paco tries to go after him but the men shoot at Paco. Salgado drags him back inside.

Lucas and Aitor yell at him to get back in the house as Mariano comes forward and tells them to not shoot. The Mafia men laugh and allow him to approach. Lucas loses it and decides to go for it. He gets far enough to be a car length away from Sara before he's shot in the leg.

Aitor runs after him as Sara ignites her homemade bomb and throws it, giving Aitor time to get to a gun by a fallen henchmen and throws it at her. She fires on the mafia men, giving him cover to drag Lucas to a car right across from her.

AT THE PRECINCT - the Judge starts to interview Francesca. Curtis is annoyed that no one is picking up their phone and decides to head to the wedding, since everything is under control. He ends up running into Blackman in the garage.

AT THE HOUSE - Mariano wanders into the fields. The Mafia's watch him from a distance and ask El Gordo what to do. He says to kill him. The Second in Command decides to have a little fun first and orders Mariano to strip.

MEANWHILE – Aitor, Sara and Lucas remain pinned behind the cars. Aitor puts a tourniquet on Lucas' legs. Lucas and Aitor bond about how romantic Sara is with both of them (gross) and then Lucas says he understands because he would have done whatever it took to get Sara (dammit, lucas! Kick his ass!). Lucas decides they've done enough bonding and orders Aitor to get stuff out of his car – two guns and a radio.

MARIANO is led out into the forest blindfolded. The second in command orders Mariano to run in a straight line.

AT THE PRECINCT – Curtis points a gun at Blackman. Blackman is unfazed. He tells Curtis that he never wanted to be a police officer because the bad guys always win, and policeman can't do anything about it because they're like dogs with very short leashes. He's never had a leash.

While he talks, Francesca takes a gun from a guard, and pleading forgiveness, shoots the judge. The radio crackles to life. Blackman informs Curtis what just happened, and as he processes that, we flash back to a scene in the elevator, where Blackman produces a vest for the judge.

And oh my God you guys. He's so frickin' hot. I love me some Blackman. I want to have his super Blackman babies. Ahem. He's just so pretty.

We also see the scene where Francesca got the message on the phone earlier today, and Blackman says that if she's done it, it's because the Mafia has her children. Curtis realizes that that means that El Gordo is in Spain. Blackman agrees and says that if he took the trouble, then it wasn't just for Francesca that he came, but also for revenge.

AT THE HOUSE – the men run out of ammo.

Blackman asks Curtis how long it's been since he's talked to his friends. Curtis, crying, tries to call them. Blackman tells him to run.

KIKE sees a downed gunman and thinks they can reach the gun. Montoya tells him he'll die before he reaches it, but Nelson sees the shields and thinks that he can use it to cover themselves. Paco says no one's leaving. They already lost Mariano.

MARIANO keeps running. The men target him, but shoot as Mariano reaches a ditch. He falls in as the gun goes off.

Nelson points out that if the mafia finds out they have no ammo, they're sitting ducks. Kike says he's going with Nelson, and begs for a chance.

MARIANO gets up, alive and alone. With a twisted ankle, he finds a horse and gets on it, riding off. The horse dumps him, but he finds a scarecrow and steals his clothes. He makes it onto the road, just in time to be picked up by Curtis, who asks him what's happening as he gets in.

KIKE AND NELSON prepare to head out.

LUCAS tries to reach someone on the radio, but all he gets is Sara, who decides to take the moment to tell them how she loves them both oh so much (shut up, sara), but she has to make a decision and stick with it (no really?).

Before she and the show can bore us some more with more Lucas/Sara/Aitor flashbacks, shots get fired, and we see Nelson and Kike coming out, protected by the shields.

THEY WATCH, astounded as the men try to hit Nelson and Kike, but the shields protect them. They GET to the gun.

Nelson and Kike backpedal up the stairs toward the house, but as soon as you think they're going to make it, Nelson trips and opens himself up – HE'S RIDDLED with bullets.

AITOR screams, Kike drops his guard, and HE'S HIT TOO. Everyone can only watch helplessly as they lie on the patio dying. Rita and Paco RUSH for the door.

Lucas and Aitor decide that NOW might be a good time to use their stupid guns, and move as SARA begins to shoot at the men.

NELSON dies on the patio. RIP, Nelson.

Rita and Paco burst out, Paco grabs Nelson and Rita struggles with Kike. Aitor, Lucas and Sara kill more mafia men while Salgado helps Rita.

The dragged bodies leave a trail of blood, littered with flowers.

INSIDE THE HOUSE- Rita sobs over Kike, as Paco looks over Nelson. With shaky hands, he closes Nelson's eyes. Montoya and Povedilla share an agonized look.

IN THE WINECELLAR - Pepa has opened up Silvia. Silvia is in very obvious pain. DL holds the mirror up.

DL: Daughter!

PEPA: I don't see anything Silvia. How far do I look?

SILVIA: The trajectory was upwards, Pepa. A little to the right. Go a little deeper and there you'll have it.

Pepa keeps prodding. Silvia cries from the pain.

SILVIA: Come on, you're really close.

Pepa can't see a thing. She exchanges a disheartened looked with DL, as Silvia looks close to fainting again. Dl tries desperately to distract her.

PEPA: Silvia!

DL: Silvia, my love… You never told me where you were going on your honeymoon. Come on, tell me.

Silvia comes around again, but she's noticeably weaker.

SILVIA: First, we're going to Santiago de Chile.

DL: And what else?

SILVIA: And then we're going to board a ship to a little island called Santa Clara in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

She stares adoringly at Pepa, who keeps working diligently.

SILVIA: Where there are only sea lions… and sunsets… and it'll be just the two of us…

Pepa looks up and meets Silvia's stare.

SILVIA: Pepa and I.

She smiles.

SILVIA: Isn't that right, Pepa?

Pepa swallows down her tears and smiles.

PEPA: Of course.

UPSTAIRS - Rita sobs over Kike, losing it. Paco comes over and makes her stop. Rita unsteadily gets to her feet and buries herself in Montoya's arms. Montoya is in real, obvious pain.

Paco gathers Kike in his arms and smiles at him, telling him to look at him. Kike does.

IN THE WINECELLAR - Pepa keeps searching, and finally sees the bullet.

PEPA: There it is! I have it!

SILVIA: Pepa.

PEPA: I see it!

DL: Where?

She holds the mirror.

PEPA: Do you see it?

SILVIA: I don't see it.

PEPA: It's there.

SILVIA: No, move the intestine more to the right.

Pepa does, Silvia writhes in pain, but manages to see the bullet. She sees the position, and immediately, you see the hope die in her eyes. The way the bullet is lodged, there's no hope. She'll bleed out immediately.

PEPA: There is it! There it is!

Silvia grabs her hand.

SILVIA: No! No! Don't grab it!

Pepa blinks.

PEPA: Why not, Silvia?! It's right there!

SILVIA: No!

PEPA: Why not, Silvia! I'm seeing it! It's right-

SILVIA: NO!

The scream is heard upstairs by Paco and the team.

It's written on Silvia's devastated face. She's going to die. She begins to cry, her strength shattering, as DL and Pepa stare at her, realizing what's happened.

Even in her sorrow, Silvia manages a trembling smile for her love.

SILVIA: Thank you.

Silent tears fall from Pepa's face as she pulls the utensils away. DL cradles Silvia's head and cries.

SILVIA: You both have done an amazing job.

DL sobs.

DL: What do I do? What do I do?

SILVIA: Hold me.

Carefully, he lifts her up to embrace her, as Pepa comes closer, clutching her hand at her wound. Now we can see just how much blood has pooled over Silvia.

Upstairs, Paco keeps holding Kike. Montoya kisses Rita lovingly on her forehead as she cries.

Silvia can barely hold it together as she lets herself cry.

SILVIA: Do you remember when I was five years old? You used to sing to Lola and me that song by Juan Gabriel.

DL: Yes.

SILVIA: Pepa.

Silvia begins to cry like a child as Pepa, sobbing silently, looks at her.

SILVIA: My dad would always get mad at us because we didn't want to go to bed. But then he'd come and… he … he would sing to us… and I couldn't go to sleep… unless I heard him sing it… and gave me a goodnight kiss.

They all sob. Silvia coughs again.

SILVIA: How did it go?

DL kisses the top of her head as Pepa looks at him beseechingly. He begins in a trembling voice.

DL: Perhaps by now

You've forgotten all about me

And without reason--

Silvia looks at Pepa, singing the words to her lover, picking up with her father.

SILVIA & DL: -I keep waiting for you

I haven't wanted to leave –

Pepa leans forward to rest her forehead intimately against the love of her life.

PEPA, SILVIA & DL: Just in case one day

You decided to return

You'd find me still here

PACO picks up the song, holding onto Kike as we hear the strains of the music…

PACO: That's why I stay here

In the same place as always

In the same city

The others join in, sobbing.

POVEDILLA & PACO: -And with the same people

SALGADO joins in: -Just so when you return.

RITA and group: You won't find anything odd

And things will be like they were.

And you'll never leave us again.

Montoya grips her with all his strength.

OUTSIDE SARA continues-

SARA: -Maybe I'm asking too much.

SARA & LUCAS: -I know I've forgotten

That we're already finished

SARA, LUCAS & AITOR: -That you'll never return

That you never really loved me

I've forgotten again

That it was only me that loved you.

INSIDE – Paco holds Kike.

PACO: That's why I'm here in the same place as always…

Kike's eyes close and he fades away. RIP Kike.

GROUP: -In the same city, and with the same people.

Just so when you return.

You won't find anything odd

And things will be like they were.

And you'll never leave us again.

Montoya can't hold on any longer. His head drops and he drifts away in Rita's arms. RIP Montoya. Rita senses this and pulls away, panicking as she sees him lifeless. The others watch, and their eyes crumble as they have nothing they can do but keep singing.

GROUP: -Maybe I'm asking too much.

I know I've forgotten

That we're already finished.

That you'll never return

That you never really loved me

I've forgotten again

That it was only me that loved you.

She scrambles to see what happened as she sobs, and pulls away his lapel to see his side soaked with blood. She sobs and cradles into him.

In the room, there is quiet as everyone sobs.

Outside, Lucas, Aitor and Sara sit desolate with their guns.

IN THE WINECELLAR – Pepa and DL hold Silvia between them, as Pepa sings her serenade to her dying bride.

PEPA: - So when you return…

W/ DL: -You won't find anything odd

And things will be like they were…

Silvia stares up into Pepa's eyes one last time.

PEPA & DL: -And you'll…

Silvia fades away. RIP Silvia. I loved you nearly as much as Pepa did.

The song picks up again without our heartbroken father and widow, as Pepa stares in disbelief at Don Lorenzo.

SONG: -Maybe I'm asking too much.

I know I've forgotten

That we're already finished.

That you'll never return

She falls apart, clutching Silvia tightly to her. She's sobbing and heartbroken.

PEPA: No, No. NOOOO.

Her heart wrenched, agonizing cry is heard throughout the house like a death toll.

SONG: -That you never really loved me

I've forgotten again

That it was only me that loved you.

Pepa and DL mourn the woman they loved intensely.

Paco carefully puts Kike to rest on the floor, and we linger over he and Nelson's bodies as Rita sobs over Montoya.

Don Lorenzo sobs and holds Silvia to her, as Pepa cries and kisses Silvia's blood soaked fingers.

LUCAS: -Maybe I'm asking too much.

I know I've forgotten

Pepa and DL hold each other, Silvia in between them.

In the house, the group mourns their losses.

AITOR: -That we're already finished.

That you'll never return

GROUP: -That you never really loved me

I've forgotten again

OUTSIDE, Sara sits alone and desolate.

SARA [whispers]: That it was only me that loved you.

As Pepa and DL mourn, sirens can be heard in the background.

SWAT, Curtis and his arsenal drive up to the house, sirens blaring. Lucas watches them go numbly.

PARAMEDICS storm out, and the cops arrest the men who are left.

EL GORDO climbs out of his van and jumps onto a motorcycle with a henchmen, driving away just as a van heads to the site.

Sara looks at Aitor and Lucas.

TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE – honestly, out of everything in this episode, THIS part is the part I have the most issue with. REALLY, show? You've just killed Kike, Montoya, Nelson and Sivlia, and you expect us to REALLY care right now WHO Sara picks? REALLY?! The mounting music makes it seem like THIS is the big finish, and FUCK show, I'm a sobbing mess right now over Four of my beloved characters dying, and you want me to give a fuck which guy Sara the stupid adultress picks? Guess what? I DON'T CARE.

Anyways, she gets up and goes and hugs Lucas. Aitor is all emo and sad that she you know PICKED HER HUSBAND, and goes off to cry, but then stupid Sara calls him back and runs into his arms.

Lucas wonders what he's going to get for lunch.

Aitor gets all excited again thinking that Sara picked him, but duh, she didn't. It's in her face, and his heart breaks all over again.

Lucas thinks this is very awkward, because really, who actually thought she would stay with whiny Aitor?

Aitor nods to him and walks away as Paco opens the door. Paco walks outside and sees emo Aitor walking back into the house, and then sees Lucas comforting Sara.

Lucas salutes him, and Sara waves at him, and then they … just… walk away.

Which is really really weird, because A, Lucas' car is RIGHT there, and they can you know… DRIVE it, and B) Lucas was SHOT in the leg, and probably needs medical attention, C) They're in the middle of fucking nowhere – where the hell are they gonna walk? Disneyland? And D) like, four people have DIED. You'd think they'd want to go inside and see who the hell was okay and maybe comfort some family members or something?

Oh fuck me, I don't care. Good riddance, Sarita.

Mariano comes up the drive and he and Paco embrace and watch Lucas and Sara hobbling away, probably wondering the same thing as me – where the hell are they going!?

FADE TO BLACK

PACO now sits alone in a chair, as a DISEMBODIED VOICE.

DV: Police Report #38-54/8 regarding the events of July 15, 2009. Agent Paco Miranda confirms that the bodies found in the living room, dining room and winecellar were those of active agents: Silvia Castro, Gonzalo Montoya, Nelson Amadu, and Enrique Gallardo, and that their deaths were the result of wounds sustained in the firefight described above. Is there anything you'd like to add?

PACO: Yes, I'd like to add something to that report. I'd like to….

NELSON appears in the chair.

NELSON: I'd like to say that that it was worth the trouble.

He morphs into KIKE.

KIKE: Death found us surrounded by our friends… and the people who loved us.

He morphs into MONTOYA.

MONTOYA: And if I had to choose a way to die… it would be something like this.

He morphs into SILVIA. I sob like a baby.

SILVIA: Because now I know, that to keep living isn't to pass the pages of a calendar, but to understand that each and every page on that calendar is unique and unrepeatable.

SHE morphs back into Paco.

PACO: That's all.

He gets up and leaves.

THE SHOW leaves us with a beautiful montage/homage of the characters who have left us, in happier times, along with a mini homage to the Pepa/Silvia love story.

As it ends, we flash back on our departed characters, ending with Silvia at her happiest and most beautiful – in love with Pepa, no longer afraid.

And that's how I'll remember her.
