Losing You
By teh_gandu
She wasn't sure when it had happened: perhaps it had slowly crept upon her, perhaps it had always been there, but one thing's for certain-it just wasn't there.
She wasn't sure whether or not Teyla knew-but she was pretty certain that the Athosian already knew-after all, this was Teyla.
But one thing she was certain of-other than it not being there-was that it never seemed to get any easier.
She took Teyla's hands into her own. "I can't keep doing this."
Teyla pushed her hands away, stalking toward the far corner.
Her stomach churned as she continued, "And I know that the timing couldn't be worse, but-"
Teyla laughed weakly. "I already know."
Elizabeth walked toward her, crouching as she took Teyla's hands into her own. "I'm so sorry."
Teyla smiled weakly. "Why are you apologizing? It happens. People fall in and out of love everyday. It is not like you were intending to hurt me."
Elizabeth gazed searchingly at the younger woman, before reiterating her words, "I'm so sorry."
Teyla closed her eyes as Elizabeth gingerly ran her fingers over her face. "I do love you Teyla, you know that. And I'll always love, you."
"But you're just not in love with me." Her eyes opened, and she held the diplomat's anguished gaze. "I understand that."
Elizabeth smiled ruefully. "I wish I were, Teyla. But I can't keep doing this, I can't keep pretending. It isn't fair to either of us, especially, you."
Teyla arched an eyebrow in response. "I think you mean to say, you. It isn't fair to you."
Before Elizabeth could reply, Teyla continued. "That is what I meant, when I said, 'I already know'. I have seen the way you look at her. I cannot recall when, you last looked at me with such affection." She stood up, claiming her lips for the last time. "I just hope it works out for you both."
Elizabeth stroked Teyla's hair. "What did I do to deserve someone as understanding as you?"
Teyla smiled softly, but said nothing, opting instead to leave.
Elizabeth grabbed her hand, spinning her around as she gazed searchingly and desperately into the Athosian's eyes. "I don't deserve you
or our friendship. I never once meant to hurt you, I hope you know that."
"I do."
"I'll always love you."
"You are just not in love with me. I understand that as well. Things will get better for us; you do know that, don't you?"
Weir smiled ruefully, "I hope so."
Teyla leant upward, kissing her on her cheek. "It will," she said, before walking off only to bump into the woman of Elizabeth's affection.
Teyla smiled weakly but said nothing.
Confusion surfaced over Kate as she made her way toward the diplomat. "So, what couldn't wait until the morning?"
Elizabeth gazed at her. "This," she replied, as she pulled her closer, claiming her lips.
Teyla was still in love with her, but she would never know-for Teyla was good at putting up fronts.
The End
