Making Like Easier
By KC

"You know, Jane, it would be so much easier to get rid of annoying guys if we really were together."

"What?"

"Well, after this latest experience I have been wondering about the validity of our usual solution."

"Validity?"

"Yes Jane, pay attention." Maura scolded. "When Jorje wouldn't back off we let him assume you were gay…"

Jane cut her off, "No, you let him assume I was gay."

"It worked, didn't it?"

"I… well… yes."

"Exactly." Maura smiled sweetly. "And now with Giovanni we implied to him that we were in a relationship and that worked too."

"What's your point?"

"It would be so much easier if we actually were together. Then we wouldn't need to fend off these… men… that seem to latch onto us."

Jane stared at her friend. "Does that mean you were lying when you said you didn't want to sleep with me? 'Cause as far as you're implying, that's exactly what you want."

Maura opened her mouth and then shut it. "I… well… I have been told… that, um… Well Jane, I…" Maura sighed in frustration. "Yes, I lied. I didn't think it was an appropriate time tell my best friend that I wanted to sleep with her, especially since I was discussing doing just that with Giovanni moments earlier."

"So you do like working class Italians?" Jane smirked.

"No, I like you. I was just using Giovanni as a distraction and a way to fill my biological needs."

"So you were happy to sleep with him, as long as he didn't talk and highlight the fact that he isn't me?"

"Well, yes."

"I'm not sure I find that particularly flattering." Jane huffed.

"Your abdominal muscles are far more attractive than his, and that's even taking into consideration the fact that you shot yourself a few months ago."

"And now you're just throwing random compliments off in a hope that I'll forgive you." Jane raised an eyebrow. "Nice, Maura. Way to make a girl feel special."

"Oh, Jane, you do not understand what I'm saying at all."

"Oh really? Well, why don't you spell it out for me then?"

"I am extremely attracted to you and I would like to sleep with you, and be in a romantic relationship with you, so I can stop pretending to be more than superficially attracted to these extremely annoying men."

"Oh… I… Well, why didn't you just say so?"

"I did!"

"Oh, right."

"Well?" Maura looked at Jane expectantly.

"Well, what?"

"Can we?"

"Sleep together?" Jane's eyebrows went as high as they could go.

Maura nodded enthusiastically.

Jane's sky-high brows eventually fell into a frown. "I suppose it would make life easier…" Maura's grin told Jane just how much this pleased her. "And it would save us a lot of trouble down the track…" Jane watched with amusement as Maura bounced a little. She took a deep breath and sighed loudly, "Oh, alright. If you insist."

Maura squealed with delight.

"But only so you don't have to lie the next time you're hit on." Jane grinned, finally giving up the pretense of resisting the idea. "And if you plan to seduce me, you could at least kiss me first."
