Miracles Come in Small Packages
By Dearlylovedaimee and Stevie

Catherine paced nervously across the hallways at Vegas Memorial Hospital. The nurse had told her not once but twice that everything would be okay. She didn't believe her. Sara had been in there with the doctors for over four hours and there still was no news.

Catherine chewed on her bottom lip, while trying to get a peek through her wife's window. At this point, she would take almost any image of Sara, just as long as she knew she was okay. She had been kicked out of the room, when Sara's blood pressure dropped, being told it was better to wait outside just incase something were to happen.

Catherine was all to reluctant, letting the doctor ever so lovingly know she wasn't about to bail on her wife in her moment of need. It took an hours worth of convincing from Gil, Nick, and Warwick to finally get Catherine to leave her exhausted wife. Now, there she was four hours later, still nervous and still waiting for any news.

If she had been smart, she would have told the guys to stay with her. But men were built differently then women. They didn't have the stamina to wait things out like women did. Catherine knew the minute something happened, she'd page them and they'd come running. But for now, she'd continue to let them sleep, while she was running on adrenaline.

Catherine finally gave up searching for Sara, and collapsed in the chair across the hallway. She crossed her right leg over her left, and slid down in the chair. If she had known what was coming next, she would have stayed standing. If not for her wife, then out of pure shame for even thinking it.

Slowly, sleep began to take over. First her eyelids became heavy, then her legs began to loosen, and eventually her body gave into its need for rest.

She wasn't sure how long she had been out, but obviously it had been a long enough period of time for the boys to make it back to the hospital. Greg, Nick, Warwick, and Gil all sat quite, peacefully watching over Catherine as she rested. Catherine adjusted her eyes to meet the bright lights above her and smiled when she looked down and noticed the hospital sheet draped over her body. She stiffly hoisted herself up with the help of the arms of her chair, taking a minute to pop her neck and back. Then she rubbed her left eye with the palm of her hand and blinked.

"How long have I been out?" Catherine looked straight ahead, not directing the question to anyone in general.

Grissom stood up, reaching down in his pocket and fishing out a dollar. He handed the money to Greg and whispered something in his ear. Greg nodded his head, and scurried off around the corner.

"The nurse said you fell asleep about 3:15 am. That was six hours ago. Are you feeling any better?"

Catherine shook her head no, then slumped down in her chair again, taking her hands and running them over her face and pushing back her hair. She breathed a heavy sigh and looked down at her watch.

"Any news yet?"

"No, Sara's still in her room and they're not letting us in. We've been getting updates every hour since we arrived, but nothing seems to be changing. The doctor said if she doesn't show any progress within the next two hours, they're going to have to operate."

Catherine closed her eyes upon hearing the news, and banged her head lightly against the wall.

"This is all my fault."

Gil turned towards her, placing his hand on her arm and giving it a little squeeze.

"Catherine, none of this is your fault. Don't do this to yourself, not now."

Catherine shifted her eyes to look at Gil and bit her bottom lip. She could feel the tears begin to build themselves up in the back of her eyes. She swallowed hard and forced herself to get a grip. If she couldn't do it for herself, the at least she could for Sara.

"Gil I should have never pushed her into this. She wasn't even sure she wanted to do it, but I just had to talk her into it. Now look where it's gotten us!"

Catherine gestured her hand in the direction of the door and felt a small tear fall from her eyes. Just then, Greg returned with a Styrofoam cup filled with what smelled like fresh coffee. He held it out to Catherine, offering it to her and smiling. Catherine looked up at Greg with thanks in her eyes and took the coffee from him. Greg didn't say a word, and returned to his seat next to Warwick and Nick, asking if they had heard anything.

Catherine took a sip of her coffee and closed her eyes as she felt the warm liquid hitting her tongue and washing it's way down her throat. After savoring her first sip, Catherine held the cup out in front of her and commented.

"This has got to be the worst coffee in history. What do they put in this stuff, cyanide?"

Nick and Warwick smiled at her and Grissom retrieved the cup out of her hands and tossed it in the garbage can next to him. He then reached back in his pocket and handed Greg another dollar, this time telling him to get a soda.

"Gil, you don't have to keep running poor Greg all over the hospital to get me a beverage. It's not like it's going to help."

"He doesn't mind; and besides it's for you."

"Yeah, well I still think he wants to be here in case anything happens."

"Catherine, stop doing this to yourself."

"Gil, how can I? My wife of three years is lying in some hospital bed, without me next to her, and probably scared out of her mind. You just don't get it!"

Catherine regretted the sentence the minute it left her lips. She rubbed her hand across the top of her forehead and sighed.

"Gil, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. I'm just stressed. It's been a long day and I'm scared. I'm not used to being strong without Sara. I just don't even know where to begin."

Gil gave her a pathetic attempt at a half smile and took her hand in his.

"It's okay Catherine, I understand. I know you're worried."

"Terrified is more like it. Gil what happens if she doesn't…"

Gil pulled Catherine into his arms and rested his head on hers. He placed a chase kiss in her hair and rubbed her back.

"You can't think like that Cat, you just can't. Sara's strong; she's one of the strongest people I've ever met. She'll get through this just you wait! Don't give up on her Cat."

"I never have and I never will. She's my life."

"Good! Now on that note, I think I'm going to see if I can rustle us up a doctor and get an update."

Grissom let go of Catherine, and then rose from his chair. Just as he was about to head to the nurse's station, Sara's door suddenly swung open and a nurse peered out from behind it. Catherine looked up at the young woman with a mixture of fear and anticipation shining in her eyes. The young woman walked directly over to her and spoke.

"Mrs. Willows?"

Catherine pointed to herself and sat up.

"That's me!"

The nurse smiled at her and then gestured for her to come over.

"Mrs. Willows, Doctor Bentley says you can come in now."

Catherine shot up from her chair like a rocket and made a mad dash for her wife's room. The guys got up to follow, but were stopped just short of entering Sara's room.

"Sorry fellas immediate family only. At lest until the doctor okays it."

The guys nodded their heads and sat disappointingly back down in their chairs.

Upon entering Sara's room, Catherine peeked gently around the corner and saw the most beautiful face she had ever seen looking up at her.

"Hey there!" Sara said when she saw her wife's face. A wide smile spread across her mouth, revealing that gaped-tooth grin Catherine loved so much.

"Hey there gorgeous! How you feeling?"

Sara adjusted herself and lifted her body up gently, patting the side of her bed, motioning for her wife to come sit down next to her.

"Come here, I have someone I'd like you to meet. Actually, I have two someone's I'd like you to meet."

Catherine smiled the entire way she walked to where her wife was laying. As soon as she was there, she sat down on the bed and gave Sara a kiss on the forehead.

Just then, Doctor Bentley appeared out from behind the curtain, caring two tiny bundles, one wrapped in pink and other wrapped in blue. With a giant ear-to-ear grin, he handed the babies to Catherine and Sara.

"Congratulations ladies you have two beautiful, healthy babies."

Catherine's eyes lit up when the doctor handed her her son. She looked down at the little boy and smiled as he adjusted his eyes to look up at her. Just next to her, Sara sat holding their daughter who was still crying from her dose of eye drops she had just received. Catherine reached over and took her hand in hers and began to count her fingers, then moved down to her feet and proceeded to do the same. Sara looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

"Cat, what are you doing honey?"

"Just making sure."

"Baby relax, they're perfect in everyway. Trust me, I already checked."

Sara smiled at her and winked.

Catherine didn't know what happened, but suddenly she felt herself begin to cry. Sara put her arm around her and kissed her cheek.

"Why are you crying?"

"I don't know they're just so perfect, you're perfect! I'm so happy."

"Me to baby, me too!"

Catherine leaned in and placed a long, sensual kiss on Sara's lips. They were just content to stay that way, until their son reminded them they weren't alone.

Catherine and Sara broke apart, and looked down at the crying baby.

"Hey there handsome, don't cry!" Catherine picked up her son and held him close to her chest, rocking him up and down. "I promise, I'll share Mommy with you!"

Just then, the girls heard a faint knock at the door. Before they could answer, Gil, Nick, Warwick, Greg, Jim, Doc Robins, and Lindsay all peeked in to make sure they weren't interrupting.

"Hey ladies, can we come in?"

Catherine and Sara both smiled, then waved them all in the door.

The entire group all made their way over to the bed, where Sara was holding the newest members of the team.

Lindsay's little blue-green eyes lit up when she saw her new brother and sister. She leaped on the bed, hugging her mother and kissing Sara on the cheek.

"Wow, they're so tiny."

"I know honey, would you like to hold them." Catherine looked at her daughter, who already had her arms stretched out before her mother had finished her sentence.

Catherine and Sara placed both of the babies, one in each of Lindsay's arms, and watched her as she looked over them.

"Neat!" She said as her sister and brother began to squirm in her arms.

The boys all stood there, smiling at the girls and some even crying.

"Congratulations Cat!" Warwick said as he wiped a tear from his eye.

"Yeah ladies, congratulations!"

"Thanks Jim!"

"Mommy, what are we going to call them?"

Catherine and Sara both looked over at one another and shrugged their shoulders.

"I guess we forgot one thing dear."

"I guess."

"Well, we could always call them Thing 1 and Thing 2!" Greg suggested with a chuckle.

Nick rolled his eyes and shoved Greg in the arm with his elbow.

"Greg, don't help!"

"I have an idea, how about Amy and Travis. What do you think you guys, do you like?" Catherine asked.

Everyone shook their heads in agreement and smiled.

"Then that's settles it, Amy and Travis it is!" Sara piped up and kissed her wife on her forehead.

"Now that that's settled, let me hold my new Godson!" Jim said as he reached out to take Travis from Lindsay.

"Excuse me Jim, but I believe I am the Godfather!" Gil cut in front of him and stole Amy out of Lindsay's other arm.

"Hey!" All three of the boys said at the same time "What about us!"

Catherine and Sara laughed at all the fuss over the babies and then turned to look into each other's eyes.

"Thank you for my little miracles!" Catherine said as she leaned over and kissed Sara on her lips

"Aw, shucks, it was nothing!" Sara responded as she blushed.

"You call eighteen hours of labor nothing?"

"Okay, it was something, but it was worth it! But Cat, next time I agree to something like this, remind me eighteen hours okay!"

"Done!"
