The Morning After
By carpesomediem
'What have I done?' echoed over and over in Katherine's mind. Her eyes darted between Robin's sleeping face, the ceiling and the door before closing, opening and starting the cycle all over again. Vivid flashbacks of the night's events scattered through her mind as she tried to figure out whether to fight or take flight.
"I don't know what I'm doing," Katherine barely managed to get out as Robin's hands rested on her waist. The blonde had pulled away to make sure Katherine was okay with how fast things were progressing
"That's what I'm here for, silly." Robin smiled, cupping the redhead's cheek with one hand and that's when Katherine realized exactly why she turned around, walked up the stairs and stood in that doorway.
"You're beautiful." Katherine finally said what she wanted to say for days. Robin broke out into another one of those infectious smiles that made the older woman smile, too.
"We'll take it slow," Robin said matter-of-factly. "All you have to do is tell me to stop, and we'll stop. Easy as that." Katherine merely nodded as the blonde led her to the bed, turning her mid-step so she fell onto the bed easily. She hadn't even noticed that Robin slid her skirt off and stepped out of it on the way over.
Katherine looked up in anticipation, a nervousness overtaking her stomach as Robin settled on top of her. Katherine had her fair share of lovers over the years, but the sensation of the blonde's a woman's, Robin's thighs against her jean-clad legs was something she'd never, ever forget. Remembering what it felt like to straddle someone else, Katherine rested her hands on Robin's waist; the sensation of warm, smooth skin under her hands was almost too much to bear. It seemed she was on sensory overload, as if she were a kid experiencing sex for the first time fumbling to get it right.
"You okay?" Robin asked. Katherine shook her head slightly and Robin took that as a sign to swoop down, melding her half-naked body with the one below her. Katherine had closed her eyes, biting her bottom lip as she became used to the feeling of a woman's weight on top of her.
"I think I'm wearing too many clothes," Katherine blurted out, her cheeks reddening as she realized she'd said it aloud.
"I think you are, too." Robin sat up, resting her weight on her knees and guided Katherine into a sitting position putting the redhead's face flush with her breasts. Katherine closed her eyes again, inhaling Robin's perfume as her mind raced and her hands took on a task of their own. "I thought I was undressing you " The redhead's hands were inching there was up to the pink bra Robin still wore, but they stopped suddenly when the blonde had trailed off.
"I Um " Katherine didn't know what to say or do next. She had an idea, she had an urging but she didn't know whether to take the lead or let Robin lead the way. Sensing Katherine's anxiety, Robin began lifting the other woman's shirt up over her body revealing a lacy black bra as she tossed the shirt somewhere behind her. Katherine smiled, nodding to encourage Robin to continue wherever the night may take them.
'Easy as that,' Katherine rolled her eyes and sighed. Robin shifted slightly and she watched as the blonde's arm tried to pull the older woman's body closer. Katherine gave in, turning to face her and warmed to the thought of having someone want to really hold her again.
"Good morning," Katherine said softly when she realized Robin had begun to open her eyes. It'd been a long time since she'd shared a bed with someone who made her feel complete.
Then again, when had she ever been in a relationship that completed her? Her last relationship ended in delusion; she ended up in a mental hospital where her now outpatient therapist was telling her to end one of the only good things she had going for her.
"Hey," Robin drawled, rubbing her eyes and then yawning. Moments later she took her hand and traced the outline of Katherine's jaw before leaning forward and capturing the other woman's lips with her own. "Morning."
"The morning after," Katherine mumbled, stifling a smile. It didn't feel like the morning after.
