Maca sits on Demetrio's couch, "Are you saying that Ernesto told her my phone number?"

"Sí."

"I can not believe he would do that to me."

"Ernesto didn't do it to you. He did it for her, have you forgotten that they are half siblings?"

"I surely did. I don't understand why she would want me now? She broke my heart when she decided to go back to her other lover."

"I can not believe that she would choose Alonzo over you. I mean you are freaking hot."

"Umm…Demetrio?"

"Sí."

"I don't know if I like to be called freaking hot from someone I think of as a brother."

"Awe come on Maca. You know that any woman would be lucky to have you in their life."

"Except the woman that I want."

"So who is this mysterious woman?"

"Her name is Esther Garcia and she is very beautiful."

"I see, so what is the hold up?"

"Well she is also very straight and I did something very stupid."

Demetrio looked at his friend, "What did you do?"

"I kissed her."

"You kissed her?"

"Sí."

"What did she do?"

"She ran off."

"Ouch…"

"I shouldn't have kissed her Demetrio. Now I can not even bear to face her."

Demetrio looked at his friend, "I am sorry that this happened Maca. But that doesn't mean you should give up on love."

"Why not?"

"Because you can still find someone to be there and be a part of your life."

"But it will not be the person I want to share my life with."

Esther was looking at the clock in the hospital lounge when Teresa walked up to her.

"Esther?"

"Sí?"

"Why are you staring at the clock like that?"

"I am suppose to be going out with Esteban tonight and I am not really looking forward to going."

"Then why did you tell him that you would go?"

"Because he was pleading and I didn't want to hear him whine."

"Awe I see. So why don't you call and cancel? Say that you are not feeling well and you need to rest."

"Because I know that he would probably show up with some soup at my house."

"I really don't know that to tell you," Teresa replied, "The only person that knows how to come up with good excuses to get you out of things is…."

"Maca," Esther replied with a sad sigh, 'I wish I knew where she was.'

It had been two days since Maca had arrived in Barcelona and Demetrio had promised her the best breakfast ever. She had joked that the only way her friend would be able to pull that off is if he had his mother fixed it. But she was very surprised to wake up and find a delicious spread in front of her on the kitchen table.

"Morning Maca."

"Morning."

"How did you sleep last night?"

"I slept pretty good, wow you weren't kidding about fixing me a great breakfast."

"Now have I ever let you down?"

"No actually in the twenty odd years we have known each other, you have never let me down."

"And I don't plan on doing it ever. So will you like to sit down and eat?"

"Of course, I am starving."

"Good."

"But you have enough food here to feed a horse."

"Well I do recall how much you eat."

Maca threw her friend a playful glare as she ate some of the fruit on the table.

Demetrio smiled as he got up and grabbed a couple of plates from a cabinet, "I remember that you loved omelets."

"Yes I do. Your mother made that one that I loved the most."

Demetrio put a plate down in front on Maca, "Why don't you try it."

Maca began to slowly eat the omelet, "This taste just like your mother's. Did she cook this for you?"

Demetrio laughed, "No. But my mama taught me how to cook a while back. I asked her to teach me how to make her omelet just in case."

"Just in case what?"

"Just in case you come to visit me, I wanted to at least know how to fix your favorites."

"Demetrio if I wasn't interested in women, you would be the perfect mate for me."

Demetrio laughed, "So are you saying I would make someone a good husband?"

"Of course you will."

"Well let me go get the bread out the oven."

"Ok," Maca replied as she watched her friend go into the kitchen.

There was a knock on the door and Demetrio called out to his friend, "Maca can you go see who that is at the door?"

"Sí." Maca replied as she walked to the door and opened it, "It can't be…"

Esther had just arrived at work, she was off yesterday and she thought all night about the missing pediatrician. She walked in not noticing anyone around her and began to walk to the front desk.

Teresa was watching the younger woman walk up and she was concerned. The nurse had not been the same since she heard about Maca's sudden departure. She had to find out if something happened between the two, "Esther?"

Esther looked up, "Sí?"

"Are you okay?"

"Sí."

Teresa looked at the nurse, "I don't know you seem to be different somehow."

"You think so?"

"Sí."

"But I am okay Teresa."

"I don't know Esther, how did your dinner go with Esteban?"

Esther sighed, "Pretty boring."

"I am so sorry to hear that."

"It's okay."

"So is that why you are in such a funk?"

"I'm not in a funk."

"Yes you are Esther. If it wasn't because of your date with Esteban, could it be because Maca is not here? Did something happen between you two?"

"Hi Maca."

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to see Demetrio."

"Oh really does he know?"

"I was hoping that it was a surprise."

"A surprise?"

"Yes. I haven't seen him in five years."

Maca was about to say something, when Demetrio appeared.

"Who's at the door?"

"Demetrio."

Demetrio sighed as he looked at the person, "What are you doing here Melina?"

"I came to visit you."

"I really don't believe that."

"Why don't you?" Melina asked.

"Because you decided that you were better off not being my friend since you went and broke Maca's heart."

"I know I did and I am so sorry that I did that Maca."

"Are you?"

"Yes I am. I missed you so much Maca and I know what I did was wrong."

"What do you want me to say?"

"I left Alonzo and I was hoping that maybe you could give us another try."

Maca looked at Demetrio at each other and then back at the tall brunette.

"I have to think about this."

Melina nodded, "I understand. Well you have my number and please call me and maybe we can have lunch or dinner sometime."

"I will let you know."

"Good," Melina replied, "Well I better go I have a meeting to attend in an hour. Please Maca think about it and give us a shot."

Maca sighed as she watched her friend shut the door and turned to look at her.

"So what are you going to do Maca?"

Esther looked shocked, "No Teresa nothing happened between Maca and I."

"You two didn't have a misunderstanding about work?"

"Of course not, she was great with her patients and I loved the way she was with the children."

"Yes indeed she did have a way with the children that came in here. I once told her that she would make a great mother and I could tell that she was a little teary eyed."

"Really?"

"Sí."

"I had no idea."

"Do you think she left because of something to do with her bearing children?"

"I don't think so Teresa."

"I wish I knew why she had left. How about you Esther?"

"Pardon?"

"Wouldn't you like to know why Maca left?"

Esther sighed, "Yes I would, but I don't think anyone but Maca knows why she left."

"You might be right."

Esther bit her lip and was in desperate need for the subject to change, "I have to go check on a patient."

"Okay."

"I will talk to you later Teresa."

"Okay. Adiós Esther."

"Adiós Teresa," Esther replied as she began her journey to the patient she wanted to check up on. She knew that she needed to decide what she was going to do about her feelings for Maca sooner or later.
