Peter Pan Pepa
Recap by Misty Flores
Previously on LHDP: The season finale of the last season left nearly everyone in peril. Pepa & Silvia, although solid and happy in their own relationship, saw their lives go to hell when Pepa's brother Paco and Silvia's father Don Lorenzo were taken hostage aboard a plane five thousand feet in the air, and their niece Sara, secluded in a beach town, was attacked by the Kaiser, the head gangster of a dangerous gang, on her wedding day.
Hoping to find Sara, her aunts, her mother and a couple other cops from the precinct staged a raid on the Kaiser. Silvia and Pepa were able to subdue the Kaiser and arrest them, but their efforts seemed in vain when Sara was still nowhere to be found, and they heard the devastating news that a body was falling from the plane.
Also, Montoya, the last to know that Pepa & Silvia were an item, finally got a clue when he witnessed an intensely intimate moment in the mobile unit on their way to the raid.
EPISODE 7x01: Peter Pan Pepa
Flashes of the events of the season finale haunt us, and then a title card reads: ONE YEAR LATER
Lola narrates for us that in the year that has passed, there are many things that have changed.
SCENE: GAS STATION
Paco, Mariano and the rest of the Hombres have gathered together for an undercover operation at a gas station. Paco glances up at the security camera and relays to Don Lorenzo that they're holding position.
In the MOBILE UNIT- Don Lorenzo sits between Pepa and Silvia. Pepa yawns. DL watches Paco through the camera.
DL: We don't know who's making the delivery or when.
Across DL, Pepa catches Silvia's eyes and with a smile, motions for Silvia to lean back. Silvia smirks in question.
DL: We're looking for a needle in a haystack, so keep your eyes open, men.
Silvia leans back and behind DL's back, Pepa sticks her tongue out at her and makes an extremely silly face. Silvia makes one back.
DL finally gets wind of what's going on and glances back at Silvia. Caught, Silvia smiles sheepishly and faces forward again.
LOLA narrates: And others have finally started to live their lives how they, in reality, have always wanted.
Silvia flashes Pepa another look. DL shakes his head. Pepa grins and faces forward, but remembers something.
PEPA: Silvia, we're out of toilet paper!
Behind DL, Silvia shoots Pepa a warning look at her father. Pepa glances at him, and says, quieter-
PEPA: Let's pick some up on the way home, okay?
Silvia nods quickly and faces forward again, shooting her father a tentative look.
Miserable at the reminder that Silvia is now shacked up with Pepa, DL can only offer her an agonized grunt of acceptance. Silvia grins quietly to herself.
Lola picks up again and lets us in on what happened with the rest of the pack.
After Povedilla was taken hostage on the plane, he went on a pilgrimage, and on the road had a revelation. No one knows what it was, but it lead him to leave Rita. He shows up at the station, undercover as a cyclist, and he and Rita, undercover as a gas station attendant, have an awkward encounter as she hands him some juice.
Povedilla watches as Rita goes back inside the store. Inside, Montoya hands her some magazines to pay for. Rita, nosy as ever, picks through them and discovers some porn. Montoya insists that he just grabbed whatever was there, but Rita takes the opportunity to tell him that she can't tell him what to do, and she understand a man has needs, but she wishes that he would find a nice girl.
Montoya, embarrassed beyond belief, emits into the radio that a black car is coming. Everyone is on pins and needles until a very old lady emerges. Paco states it's a false alarm. Lola takes the opportunity to update on Mariano: he's still with Salgado, but the bloom has worn off the rose.
Paco gets a phone call, and steels himself, and answers the phone: it's Lola.
And what about Lola? Lola goes on to explain that after realizing that Sara almost died on her wedding day, she had a nervous breakdown and landed in a deep depression, the final straw in a string of horrible circumstances that have hit her over and over because everyone she loves is a cop.
We see flashbacks of Lola's anguish - Sara's blood, Lucas nearly dying, her father being run over, Silvia getting shot, Paco flatlining, her best friend Bernie being blown up in a car-
LOLA: So, realizing I couldn't change everyone else's lives, I decided to change my own. It's been a year since I moved to Barcelona, where I gather the strength to one day return to San Antonio, and a life that is no longer mine.
She mentions that Paco, Mariano and DL all live together now, and it's better, because now none of them are alone.
Lola also mentions that Sara and Lucas are happily married. We briefly witness a scene where Sara and Lucas make love before rushing off to go to work - him as a professor for the new recruits and Sara as an inactive cop.
At the station, Paco hears that Lola doesn't want him to send her the profits from Cachis, her little café, and he gets distressed. He gets louder and louder, and the mike picks up everything.
In the van, the mood is somber. Silvia and DL look at each other sadly.
DL interrupts Paco to tell him to turn off the phone. They're at a gas station, and on a mission. Paco apologizes. Silvia and Pepa cast each other sad glances as Paco complains that Lola doesn't want anything from him.
DL: Paco, dissociate. DISSOCIATE. First the operation, THEN Lola.
Mariano tells Paco that his father-in-law has a point. He's always calling Lola. Paco erupts that at least they talk, but Mariano has stalled in his relationship with Salgado.
Kike and Curtis, listening in across the station, nod in agreement.
KIKE: There he has a point.
DL rolls his eyes and switches channels to avoid the chatter. He catches Rita instead, who is telling Montoya he can have whoever he wanted, but because he's alone, he does what's easy and jerks off instead.
Pepa guffaws. Silvia smirks. DL slams his hand on the channel to change it again.
Mariano is still going on about trying to break up with Salgado. DL switches - Rita is still going on about how Montoya has been hurt in the past - DL Switches -
MARIANO: She doesn't know how to stop giving orders! She gives me orders in the fucking BATHROOM, PACO!
Silvia can't help herself , she covers her hand and silently laughs, catching Pepa's eyes. Pepa makes no effort to hide her grin.
DL switches - switches- and finally just jerks the volume, making everyone wince. He tells them he can HEAR them and to shut the hell up.
DL: We're on an operation! Be Alert, DAMMIT! FUCK!
Pepa and Silvia are now cracking up. DL flails his hands helplessly at them.
DL: Be alert, dammit!
They try to sober themselves.
Another black car comes, the men get ready as a Mercedes pulls into the gas station. At that moment loud POPPING fills the air. Everyone reacts - Povedilla notes that a kid has set off firecrackers across the street. They sound like gunshots -
They go off again. Pepa jumps and grabs the controller. DL snaps at her not to touch it and grabs it himself. DL orders Povedilla to stop the kid.
A black man in a suit comes out. Aitor offers to fill his tank but he stops him with a hand on his chest and says he'll do it. The firecrackers continue to go off, and the battle hardened cops wince visibly each and everytime they go off.
Another POP and Aitor instinctively reaches for his gun, but stops himself. But too late - the suspect caught it. He stops pumping gas and tries to leave.
Meanwhile, Lucas is teaching his class. He tells the students the four rules for every mission: never act against orders, ensure the safety of your fellow officers and never act alone, no one is a hero, and always follow police procedure.
Naturally the Hombres manage to break each and every rule.
Aitor thinks this is the guy but DL orders them to wait until they're sure. Aitor doesn't want to wait, and after a while loses patience and pulls a gun, ordering him out of the car. DL orders them not to shoot. The guy jerks the car door into Aitor and makes a break for it.
DL tumbles out of the van and without waiting for the girls to back him up, tries to stop the fleeing man. Without stopping, the man CLOCKS DL hard in the head. DL falls back and is out cold. Aitor chases after him.
Pepa, Silvia, Mariano and Paco gather around DL, but Paco orders Pepa and Mariano to go after Aitor and the suspect.
Aitor catches up with the suspect, but the suspect mouths off to him. Aitor, already pissed at him for clocking DL, puts down the gun and offers to fight him hand to hand.
Kike encourages him. Curtis doesn't know what to do. They start to fight, and soon a crowd emerges. One guy starts filming it as Aitor gets the upper hand and beats the guy.
Silvia and Paco gently lift up DL, who says he's fine, but is clearly woozy.
Mariano and Pepa break up the fight.
Pepa grabs hold of the steaming mad Aitor and shoves him hard out of the way.
PEPA: What the FUCK are you doing!?
Still furious, Aitor weaves past her and grabs hold of the suspect, screaming into his face.
AITOR: Black asshole, get in the fucking van!
Pepa shoves him again, pissed.
As they walk away, Povedilla is still chasing the kid with the firecrackers, and tosses his shoe at him.

NEW CREDITS! Now with Laura Sanchez!
AT THE PRECINT -
DL holds a newspaper with a picture of Aitor shouting at the man, and informs them that now they're seen as the most racist station in Spain. Aitor looks sufficiently cowed. DL blinks, gets dizzy, and heads to his office. There, he speaks to Paco and Mariano, who are relieved he seems okay after the knock on his head, until he calls them back into the office three times and gives them the exact same orders three times.
They realize in horror something is very wrong with DL.
Back in the briefing room, Montoya briefs the other men on a new murder - the murder of a ventriloquist. They have the puppet and the man's ring as evidence, and he wants Povedilla to go undercover as a ventriloquist, because they think it was an inside job.
Povedilla is crashing at Paco's now that he has no place to stay, and he tries to figure out his character. DL comes home and asks Paco for fifty Euros because he doesn't have time to go to the ATM. Five minutes later, he comes back again and asks Paco for fifty Euros because he doesn't time to go to the ATM. Over the course of the night, he does this two more times, taking 200 Euros from Paco.
Povedilla gives Mariano the ring in the evidence bag and asks him to give it to Silvia for him. Mariano agrees, but when he gets to the station, he spies Salgado's office empty and he sneaks inside to steal some pills for DL from her bag, slipping them into the evidence bag.
When Marina catches him, she spies the ring in his hand and mistakenly thinks he has proposed. Giddy, she happily accepts. Mariano freaks out in his head.
That night, he wakes up Paco and slips into his bed to hysterically tell him he's getting married because he was too much of a coward to say no. DL walks into the room and sees them in bed together, and then walks out again.
THE NEXT DAY:
Lucas has been given a job offer from Salgado - high up in the central organization, with a lot of money and prestige - but it involves leaving San Antonio and training with the CIA. He says no over and over, but Mariano, who spied the files when he was in Marina's office, discusses it with him and Paco.
Lucas says that Sara was shot because of him, and he stops being a cop, she'll be fine. Paco argues but Lucas breaks him by saying he doesn't want to be like Paco, waiting by the phone for a phone call from Barcelona. Sara is what's important, and the job can go to hell.
--
DL, Paco and Mariano go to the grocery store. Paco tries to call Lola again but DL stops him, and says that if he keeps calling Lola, Lola will come back and be as miserable as she was before. Gently, he tells Paco he has to let her go.
Paco thinks DL is going to be okay, until DL wanders off on his own. Paco and Mariano freak and use the intercom to try and find him, but Mariano creates a panic when he states that DL has his mental facilities compromised and he's armed.
Coming up behind him, DL clocks Mariano hard in the head.
--
Sara and Lucas meet up in the elevator and decide to have sex. Things go badly when Lucas can't get an erection. Sara is amused.
SARA: They say it happens to a guy 20 or 30 times in his life. You've got 29 left!
She starts laughing hysterically. Lucas isn't amused.
--
Povedilla still struggles for inspiration for his mannequin, until he sees DL interacting with Rita and Aitor. He decides to create a mini Don Lorenzo.
At Cachis, the stage is set up for his debut performance. Rita sits with Sabenita, the baby, and Montoya and once again counsels him on his lack of love life. She tells him it's a waste because he's just so pretty.
Montoya sighs and rolls his eyes.
Curtis enters, leading in Pepa and Silvia. The girls are holding hands.
CURTIS: Girls you sit there, I'm going to sit beside Montoya.
Rita gets up to get some water, and hands Montoya the baby.
SILVIA: Hi!
PEPA: Hi!
Silvia and Pepa immediately fawn over her. Silvia takes her goddaughter from Montoya.
Pepa leans forward and makes silly faces and sounds at the baby. Silvia watches her and the baby adoringly.
SILVIA: Pepa.
PEPA: What?
SILVIA: Don't tell me you're not dying to have one of these in your arms.
Pepa freezes - she's not dying to have one of these in her arms.
PEPA: Silvia, they're cute but-but- she cries all night - she poops, she pees, she cried at all hours- she-
Silvia now stares adoringly at the baby. The baby chooses that moment to try and grab Pepa's nose, smacking it instead.
PEPA: Oh, sure you're going to hit me too? - she leaves her boogers on everyone.
The baby shakes her happily, Pepa follows suit with a mimic, but hers is a shudder. She laughs.
SILVIA: No. I think that once you've had one come out of you, none of that would matter.
Pepa stares at her uneasily, and removes her jacket.
They sit down for the show. Povedilla comes out for his show. The group claps and waves at him.
Povedilla brings out mini DL. The crowd gasps with recognition and send each other amused glances.
POVEDILLA: Good evening, everyone. Tonight I wanted to introduce you to Don Furhencio. He's the Commissioner of San Antonio.
MINIDL: Good evening. Can someone tell why the entire fucking precinct is here sitting on their asses instead of working?!
POVEDILLA: They came to see you.
MINIDL: Ah. [waves his hand, appeased] Good.
It's a dead on impersonation of DL. He's a hit, everyone is laughing.
That is, until DL walks in and witnesses his little doppelganger.
The room is dead silent, until DL starts laughing.
DL: The fucking doll!
He glances at Silvia and she smiles with him, and then the entire room laughs in relief, clapping for Povedilla.
Aitor comes in, in uniform and leans toward Montoya. He tells them there's been another ventriloquist murdered and they have two very likely suspects.
MONTOYA: Okay, the infiltration is over. Everyone to the precinct now. Silvia, get ready to administer a polygraph.
She nods. Curtis, Silvia and Pepa get up with Montoya and head out.
MEANWHILE:
Lucas tries to talk to Mariano about not getting an erection, but Mariano insists on including Paco in the discussion. Paco is increasingly uncomfortable when Lucas reveals that he and Sara have sex two or three times a day. Mariano explodes and tells him he can't get wood because he's dry, and to take a break for Christ's sake.
Sara finds out about Lucas' job offer by tricking it out of Mariano and Paco. Later she goes home and cuts up his ties and suits, telling him he can't stop being who he is and she loves him for it. She promises to wait for him but that he has to do this.
She hands him his old tshirt, and tells him she loves Lucas, not a false impression of him.
Lucas tells Paco and Mariano that he's leaving. He tells them that he didn't want to be a cop at first, but he got to know them and wanted to be like them. The four of them hug.
AT THE PRECINCT:
Silvia and Povedilla administer the lie detector test as Curtis, Pepa and Montoya watch. It's not going well.
Povedilla steps back to the others.
POVEDILLA: The polygraph is clear. Both are telling the truth.
MONTOYA: But how is that possible? How is that possible? In that room there was only the dead guy, and the two suspects. The security cameras showed no one else going in and out - not through the elevators or the stairs. It has to be one of them!
POVEDILLA: And if-
CURTIS: And if what?
POVEDILLA: What if one of them didn't kill him?
Montoya gives Pepa a bewildered look.
POVEDILLA: And in reality what happened was the guy committed suicide? And he orchestrated it to look like a murder and implicate one of his two colleagues!?
They stare at him.
PEPA: What are you telling me, that the victim stabbed himself five times in the heart - by himself - to frame someone else for the death?
POVEDILLA: Sure. Sure, sure.
He tries to work out the logistic of stabbing yourself five times in the heart. Pepa rubs her head and shares an exasperated glance with Montoya.
Silvia walks in.
MONTOYA: Silvia what's the possibility that they could have lied and still passed the polygraph?
SILVIA: Unless they were government agents and they had trained for years to learn how to control their breathing and heartbeat none.
PEPA: Well, we might as well give the order to let them go now.
CURTIS: Fuck it. We're going to find out that the murderer was the mannequin.
He mimics the stabbing motion.
SILVIA: Wait, wait. Maybe that's not such a dumb idea.
MONTOYA: What?
Curtis laughs.
SILVIA: No, there's been cases where a ventriloquist developed a really intense bond to his puppet, and in some cases developed a split personality. If the assassin suffers from a split personality, then in his conscious the murder would have been committed by the puppet. He would have been psychologically innocent and that would explain why he would pass the polygraph.
MONTOYA: Are you seriously suggesting that we interrogate a wooden puppet?
SILVIA: No but maybe we can do a confrontation. I don't know, push them to the limits. Maybe we can bring him out under pressure.
She looks at Montoya and Pepa. Pepa and Montoya glance at each other.
LATER
Povedilla has been sent to interrogate the puppets as the others watch through the glass. One is a puppet of a man, the other is a rat.
The rat coughs out a sponge.
RAT: Sorry.
Silvia stifles her smirk, but Pepa grins and catches Montoya's eye. He not amused. She tries to straighten her expression.
MAN PUPPET: Listen sir - where the hell is the genius who thought it was a good idea to interrogate two puppets?!
Montoya blanches and glances again at Pepa, feeling like an idiot. Pepa offers him a knowing smirk and nod.
Povedilla continues to try to do the interrogation, but the puppets heckle him, driving him in circles and demanding that he indentify himself with a badge.
Povedilla flails hopelessly at the window but goes back and pulls out his badge to show it to the puppets and demands they answer his questions.
MAN PUPPET: I have a badge too! Wanna see?
He starts to hump the air obscenely, waving his crotch at Povedilla. The rat laughs.
On the other side of the mirror, Curtis and Pepa give up and crack up. Curtis falls against the wall.
CURTIS: Well, let's give to them and admit they have HIS badge, those fucking puppets!
Now Silvia is laughing. Montoya gives up.
MONTOYA: That's enough. Get him out of there. Get him out.
But Povedilla SLAMS his hand down on the desk, shutting them up.
POVEDILLA; Gentlemen. There have been TWO murders. Are we clear? Two people have died. Maybe you can joke with me, but let's see how you deal with my superior.
LATER
Povedilla has brought out MiniDL to conduct the investigation.
MiniDL rocks it. The puppets admit to him that the ventriloquist that died stole all their jokes and had just signed a contract for a casino for six months.
Now he has motive.
MiniDL turns to man puppet and decides he isn't a murderer. So he turns to the rat.
MINIDL: But you - you are a rat.
RAT: It's not true what you're saying, sir!
MINIDL: The appearance of a cold blooded murderer!
RAT: You don't have evidence. You're accusing me without evidence sir!
MINIDL: You lost your head! It was YOU! You killed him!
RAT: No!
MINIDL: You killed him! You killed him because he stole your jokes!
RATS: NO, sir!
MINIDL: Because he was more successful than you!
RAT: NO! NO!
MINIDL: You're the murderer! CONFESS! CONFESS!
RAT: YES! I'm the murderer!
Everyone gasps, stunned.
RAT: I killed him because he stole my jokes, he stole my act! And no one would defend me. No one would go against him. So I killed him.
THE NEXT DAY
Aitor, anxious to make amends, has hired a new black cop to counter the racist charges. He introduces him as Nelson to DL.
At the office, DL gets a delivery in a green box that is leaking blood. He opens it and is horrified by what he sees: a pair of severed hands that belonged to the guy they arrested at the beginning of the ep.
