The One With the Goat
Recap by Misty Flores

Previously on LHDP: A lot has happened in the year since the season finale. Arrieta, who was holding Paco, DL and the other team hostage, jumped off the plane before he could be apprehended. Sara survived the gunshot wound and lives happily married to Lucas, but her mother Lola suffered a nervous breakdown after the traumatic events and divorced Paco to live a less dramatic life in Barcelona.

In the year that followed, Povedilla left Rita for unknown reasons, Mariano has found himself no longer in love with Salgado but accidentally engaged to her, and Don Lorenzo suffered a blow to the head in a stake out gone wrong and has had frequent memory lapses that have Paco and Mariano worried that he's losing his mind. Lucas has been offered a job as a director of Special Forces, but it involves him going to America to train, so with Sara's blessing, he has left for several months.

Silvia and Pepa have lived together for a few months and are happy, but Silvia has begun to make noises of wanting to start a family. Pepa is clearly not ready for children.

DL got a shipment – in it were a pair of bloody hands.

EPISODE 7x02: The One with the Goat, Part I

PACO'S HOUSE:

As Mariano looks at a picture of Salgado in a bikini with confusion and apathy, DL continues to act strangely, ignoring his breakfast and telling Paco to make him eggs, and then forgetting about the eggs and asking them if they're running a delicatessen and to get to work, getting a call from his superior and forgetting he's on the phone with him, etc.

Paco and Mariano fret about what to do. Mariano suggests they videotape him to show him how many times he keeps losing his memory. Paco says he'll just stick to him and show him what's wrong.

Mariano comments that Paco's life can't get any worse: his wife left him, and his father-in-law is going crazy.

Paco blinks.

THE PRECINCT:

Curtis sits at his desk with two petty thieves and a pile of wallets. He questions them on the wallets, but they insist they just found the wallets. Curtis asks them if they think he's stupid. Silvia walks by.

SILVIA: Curtis! Stop the interrogation and take them to the cell. The judge has ordered preventive custody.

The GOAT with them baahs. Silvia blinks with surprise.

SILVIA: What's this?!

She and Rita immediately start to fawn over it.

POVEDILLA: That… that's their accomplice. The goat. They would use her as a front in order to do what they wanted. Do you want me to take her to the cell too?

SILVIA: No, call animal services and have them pick it up.

POVEDILLA: … that's better. That's better.

Povedilla takes the men to the cell. From across the room, Silvia spots Pepa making her way tentatively toward her desk. Pepa, wearing large glasses and carrying a bottle of water, is clearly hung over. Silvia smiles adoringly.

As Pepa settles at her desk, Silvia skips over to Pepa and embraces her from the side, kissing her lovingly against the top of her head.

SILVIA: Hi.

Pepa looks a little green, but manages a smile for her lady love as she drops some Alka Seltzer in her cup.

PEPA: Hi. I have the hangover from hell.

SILVIA: Yeah?

PEPA: Yeah. That's the last time I let you take me to drink Tequila. If I can help it.

Silvia smiles.

PEPA: And what about you? I woke up at seven this morning, where were you?

SILVIA: Oh I went to forensics lab for the report on the hands.

Pepa blinks at such a random errand so early in the morning. Silvia laughs.

SILVIA: It's just I couldn't sleep after what you told me last night!

Pepa has no idea what she's talking about.

PEPA: What did I tell you last night? I said a lot of things last night.

Silvia sobers.

SILVIA: Yeah. But that you want to have a baby with me? Is the most amazing thing!

Pepa's plastered a smile on her face, but she is struck dumb. Silvia is over the moon.

SILVIA: I can't believe it, Pepa!

Silvia, laughing, once again embraces Pepa.

Pepa's smile drops as she hugs her back. She can't believe it either.

Meanwhile, Rita and Aitor are still admiring the goat.

AITOR: I think we can come up with a pretty clever act with this thing.

He grabs a tambourine and begins his song:

AITOR: The goat, the goat, the damn goat!

Curtis, on the phone, tries to get him to stop. Pepa, hungover, winces. Rita keeps petting the goat. Aitor keeps banging away on his tambourine.

AITOR: I had a goat and the damn thing died!

DL: WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK THIS IS?!

DL appears behind him, smacking him and startling him so much the tambourine flies in the air.

DL: Get rid of the goat, idiot! GET IT OUT!

CURTIS: Don Lorenzo! Don Lorenzo! I'm dealing with the goat. But I'm on the phone with Animal Services and they told me – they don't have room – that people throw a lot of animals on the street – oxes-

DL: Fine, fine – then take it to your damn house! Or the movies – take it to the movies! Recite a poem to it – but get it out of here, dammit! MIRANDA!

Pepa winces, and blows out a breath in dread as DL heads over.

DL: Pick up the surveillance van and head over to the Gran Hotel Meliá Fénix.

He holds out a folder.

DL: These are the photos of the men you need to watch. Okay?

He turns away. Pepa, already having a bad morning, wants to cry.

PEPA: Right now?

DL: Do you have something to do that's more important than following one of my orders?

Pepa swallows hard and says nothing. DL humphs and walks away. Silvia lingers to toss her lover a playfully affectionate wink before following her father.

Pepa slams the folder on the desk.

THE BRIEFING ROOM

Montoya, DL and Silvia give their report to the men.

MONTOYA: The hands belong to Sayim Sambassa, the suspect arrested at the gas station.

He goes on to explain that this is a calling card of the Cartel of Jaurez, a criminal organization in Mexico. Silvia runs the slide show.

DL: Francisco Gallarde, leader of the Cartel de Jaurez.

According to DL, he disappeared seven years ago – but he's responsible for 15-20 percent of the drugs being shipped into the States. He had three warrants for arrest in Spain, but they were never able to apprehend him.

SILVIA: His crimes are extensive: drug trafficking, kidnapping, murders, more than thirtyfour amputations (like the hands).

As Silvia goes on, Paco notices that Mariano is filming DL. He tells him it's not necessary – he's going to stick to DL like glue and make him see that things aren't right.

Silvia finishes her report on the mutilation.

DL: Francisco Gallarde, leader of the Cartel de Jaurez.

He's doing it again. Paco interrupts him to gently tell him he's repeating himself. DL snaps back that he repeats what's coming out his damn balls – idiot! DL hears a ringing in his ear, and forces Montoya to take over.

MONTOYA: We know that three members of the Cartel are here in Spain – they're staying at the Hotel Meliá Fénix. Pepa's already covering the entrance in case they leave to reunite with Gallarde.

DL assigns Mariano and Paco to go to the hotel. Paco jumps up.

PACO: Don Lorenzo, I would prefer to stay here with you, and organize the details of the operation-

DL: I make the orders around here.

Montoya will stay here. DL tells Paco to rent a room across the street and take photos of the suspects. If Paco needs to pee, eat, whatever, he checks with Montoya first.

Everyone looks at Paco in sympathy. DL explains that he doesn't want another incident like what happened at the gas station. He also orders Aitor, the main perpetrator of the gas station incident, to stay out of this one and stay in the office.

He dismisses the group. Rita kisses Paco comfortingly on the top of the head.

Silvia comes down.

SILVIA: Paco. Be very careful. The box that they sent us with the hands inside of it is a warning for us to stay out of their way.

MONTOYA: Paco, we don't have a warrant. We don't know if they're going to see Gallarde or if they're going to their niece's first communion. So don't do anything: just photos. If you see anything suspicious call me immediately.

Paco agrees and leaves with Mariano.

__

In the kitchen, Paco and Mariano fret about what to do, now that Paco has been ordered to stake out the hotel. They wonder what Lucas would do in a situation like this, but decide NOT to drug DL.

Aitor comes in with the bag of money confiscated from the car of the suspect at the gas station, and says Silvia has asked them to count it while they're on the stake out. Paco and Mariano take advantage of this and order Aitor to follow DL around and videotape him.

Povedilla comes in and explains to Paco that he got tossed out of the other hotel. He complained because they gave him a room with no view, but instead of assigning him to another room, the concierge got offended and kicked him out.

Paco freaks out, because he's already fucking up the operation and it hasn't even started yet. Mariano has an idea.

__

Paco heads to hotel and is shown to his room by the bell hop. His room, it turns out, is an expensive suite that Mariano has booked using the money that was confiscated from the suspect.

Paco understandably freaks out as Mariano explains that they are now right next to the bad guys and can spy on them. Paco wants to know how the hell they're going to explain to Montoya that they booked a 1000/night room with no view of the suspects. He orders Mariano to take off his tie and give it to him, since he's supposed to be the one that's staying in the room.

Mariano asks him if he's talked to Pepa yet and let her know he's inside. Paco says not yet.

__

OUTSIDE THE GRAN HOTEL

Pepa sits outside in the surveillance van, doing her job. She's on the phone with Paco, filling him in.

PEPA [onphone]: Not one movement out of the ordinary, Paco. The Mexicans haven't left the hotel and here at the entrance, there's nothing suspicious. A pair of tourists with their kids, and an executive who stepped out a moment with a client. Nothing else.

The door to the van opens, and Pepa's face lights up in delight.

PEPA: Right, okay-okay- I'll let you know.

She hangs up quickly and greets her girlfriend, reaching out to take a box as Silvia climbs into the van.

PEPA: What are you doing here?

SILVIA: Call me old-fashioned, but I'm one of those who likes to eat with family.

Ravenous, Pepa opens the box.

PEPA: I'm so hungry, thank you! God!

SILVIA: Potatos, ham and little rolls of salmon.

PEPA: It all looks so good.

She happily begins to pick through the food. Silvia has one more surprise.

SILVIA: And…

PEPA: And chocolate! [she claps her hands hopefully] And chocolate?!

Silvia pulls out a bottle of wine.

SILVIA: The typical wine for special occasions.

Pepa's face drops. She immediately digs into the food.

PEPA: No. No, for me no.

She indicates that she's working and stuffs her mouth full of food.

SILVIA: What do you mean, no? We need to celebrate what's coming, don't we?

Pepa chews, buying herself time, as she tries to figure out how to get herself out of this.

PEPA: Listen, Silvia. What you're saying is coming… I'm just saying – that for it to come… first we need to plan it, right?

SILVIA: Mmmhmm.

PEPA: These things aren't like the Jehovah's Witnesses. You can't just call them up and a minute later they're in your living room!

SILVIA: Don't worry, I've already called them.

Pepa manages an uneasy smile.

PEPA: You've already called.

SILVIA: Mmmhmm!

PEPA: And who have you called?

SILVIA: I've called a friend who's the director of a fertility clinic, and he's going to find us the best possible donor!

Pepa doesn't know how to take this. Silvia happily pours the wine.

PEPA: Mmhmm! A donor! … An anonymous donor, right?

SILVIA: What do you want, for me to call Lucas and have him send us a little bottle in the mail? I don't want a father for my baby, Pepa. I'm in love with you.

The statement gets to Pepa, and she releases an adoring smile for her lover. But even that can't stop her nerves as Silvia picks up the phone and calls again to leave a message.

SILVIA: Juan, it's Silvia again. Call me when you get out of the meeting. Smooches, bye.

Sick with nerves, Pepa manages another smile for Silvia.

INSIDE THE HOTEL ROOM

Paco and Mariano try to hear into the room with stethoscopes, but no one is talking. Mariano takes the opportunity to confide in Paco. He shows Paco a picture of Salgado in a bikini and another one of her naked, and asks Paco if he likes her. Paco, clearly uncomfortable, tries to bat him away but Mariano is persistent. Paco admits she's attractive. Mariano doesn't think so. She does absolutely nothing for him. He's not attracted to her at all. He looks at her and..nothing. If anything she turns him off. Paco tries to reassure him that's it's because of Salgado's bossiness, but Mariano instead has decided it's something else.

He thinks he might be gay.

Before Paco can process this, there is a knock on the door. Paco opens it and in floods Povedilla, Rita, Kike and Nelson, dressed to the nines. They explains that they dressed up to look like they belonged in the suites. Paco tries not to panic as they happily settle in to 'help' with the investigation. Mariano tells Paco they're going to sneak into the room and plant a mike and a video camera in the room when the guys they're watching leave. But Kike has forgotten the mike. He runs to get it.

They hear a knock at the door. Paco goes to see, and instead sees that the knock was next door, and a man has entered the adjoining suite with a large wooden box. Now they have a package. Paco resolves to go in when they leave.

__

AT THE PRECINCT

Aitor continues with his job of videotaping DL without DL noticing. DL gets a call from Sara, who has dropped Lucas off at his hotel in New York, and is now at the airport on her way back to Spain.

She wishes her grandfather a happy Birthday, and he tells her she's the first one to mention it today. Aitor takes note of that and DL's suspicious short term memory loss.

__

INSIDE THE HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

Nelson has been charged with watching who goes in and out of the hotel room with a camera they've installed inside the hotel hallway. Everyone is now bored stiff. Mariano flips through a magazine and can't decide what attracts him: the female model or the male model.

Rita and Povedilla have an awkward fight when Rita volunteers to pretend to be a hooker and lure the men downstairs. When Povedilla objects, Rita tells him he has no right to tell her what to do.

Paco receives a call from Montoya, the fourth today, and silences it, because they have nothing yet. He gets a text from Aitor with the news of DL's birthday, and the fact that he's alone and no one's actually wished him a happy birthday.

Paco faces another panic attack at the idea of forgetting his father-in-law's birthday.

In the bathroom, Paco talks to Aitor on the phone and orders him to buy a cake for DL, sing him happy birthday and record it all on video.

Mariano again tries to talk to paco about being gay, but Paco can't take that conversation right now. Rita interrupts to tell him they ordered room service, and Paco yells at them because he's supposed to be the only one in the room, and then shuts up again when the door knocks.

He gets the surprise of his life when Curtis walks in with the GOAT.

CURTIS: I already know. I already know. Don't say anything. But I can't leave her at home, dammit.

The goat starts to eat a bowl of fruit. Paco is gonna have another panic attack.

IN THE MOBILE UNIT:

Pepa has fallen asleep, while Silvia happily watches the monitors for her.

Suddenly Silvia taps her knee anxiously.

SILVIA: Look look look!

Pepa JOLTS awake, instinctively pulling and cocking her gun.

SILVIA: Look it's a pregnant lady! Look at her belly! How beautiful! It's so round.

She traces the woman's tummy. Pepa glares at her in disbelief. Exasperated, she reholsters her gun.

SILVIA: I was thinking about names for the baby. If it's a girl, I want to name her Mar, and if it's a boy Iker. Do you like them? Or is that too fast?

Pepa laughs uneasily.

PEPA: Man… Silvia… it's a little fast.

SILVIA: Look who's talking. [Pepa frowns] After just seeing me again you were flirting with me. After a week you kissed me, and after three months you were living with me.

Pepa laughs at the summation of their courtship.

SILVIA: What's fast for you?

PEPA: [conceding] Okay. And … and when were you thinking of doing the insemination?

Silvia stares at her, brow rising.

SILVIA: Me? I can't.

Pepa doesn't understand.

SILVIA: The gunshot, don't you remember? [Pepa stares at her abdomen, understanding dawning] Pepa, I was pregnant, I lost the baby, the uterus and 16 inches of my intestine.

The gravity of Silvia's tragedy finally starts to register with this new information. Silvia presses on her stomach.

SILVIA: There's nothing here! Tock-Tock. 'Hello? Anyone there?' It's empty.

She's making light of it, but Pepa knows how devastating that is for Silvia. Suddenly overwhelmed with tenderness and grief for her lover, she quietly grabs Silvia's hand and presses a loving kiss against it.

SILVIA: But even if in here there's nothing, up here? [she presses Pepa's hand against her heart] I haven't lost the urge to be a mother.

She lowers Pepa's hand and clasps it with hers – her only hope to be a mother. Pepa now understands the stakes, and though conflicted, she says nothing – it's done.

IN THE HOTEL ROOM:

The group eats their room service as Kike returns with the mikes and Paco freaks out over the bill. The goat starts eating the blanket and poops on the floor. Paco is aghast when Kike throws the droppings outside into the hallway.

Curtis comes out in a robe, deciding it's time for sleep. Paco wants to hit him but Mariano agrees that they should sleep in shifts. Paco relents and orders Kike, Curtis and Mariano to take the first shift in the bed.

Mariano, with is gay paranoia, resists but Paco orders him in bed with a stripped down Curtis and Kike.

__

At HOME w/ DL:

DL on his birthday, sits at home alone. He gets a knock on the door. It's Aitor with a birthday cake and a video camera.

Terrified, he stands there with the candles lit and sings happy birthday to DL.

DL is so grateful he's nearly moved to tears. Aitor lies that this was a surprise party planned by the group but because of the mission, he's there by himself, so he's recording the events for them to see later, if that's okay with DL. DL gives them a teary hello, and blows out the candles.

He decides they're going to celebrate with oysters. Aitor realizes how alone DL was, and feels bad for him.

__

IN THE HOTEL ROOM:

The guys have fallen asleep in the bed, Rita in a chair, and Nelson is trying to prop his eyes open as Paco sits in another chair. Povedilla has fallen asleep. Paco, irritated, throw some food at Povedilla to wake him up. Povedilla sees Rita's legs opening, and he carefully gets up to cover her tenderly.

Paco asks him gently how he could leave a woman like Rita. Povedilla asks why he doesn't go back to Lola. Paco says it's because Lola left him, but they're not talking about him. Povedilla explains that Paco has a reason to go back to Lola: he is in love with her. In Povedilla's case – that's not true. He could have spent the rest of his life with Rita: because she's his family, and the mother of his child and he loved her. But he left her because he had a revelation on that lonely road of his pilgrimage. That he realized that when he was rushing home from work – who he in reality really needed to see was his daughter, Sabenica. Not Rita.

Nelson, struggling to stay awake, spots a gangster leaving the hotel room. Paco assigns Povedilla to go into the room, check to see what's in the box and plant the video/mike.

Povedilla sneaks into the room, but Nelson counted wrong: there's one guy left, and he's stepping out of the shower. Povedilla drops the mike and sneaks under the bed.

Paco is panicked when Povedilla has not returned and they can't pick up his feed.

PACO: Silvia!

SILVIA: What's happening, Paco?

PACO: Look, we have Povedilla inside, and we've the signal – can you find the radio frequency and tell him to get the fuck out of there? [His phone begins to ring. Paco answers it.] Yes?!

SILVIA: Understood– I'll start looking for the frequency immediately.

She and Pepa get to work.

Paco is in deep shit when it's Montoya on the phone. Montoya is outside and wants to know where Paco is to go up to the room.

___

MEANWHILE AT CACHIS

DL and Aitor have his birthday dinner of oysters. DL is drunk and keeps repeating that it's his birthday and he's going to celebrate it. Until he sees a couple of beautiful woman, and starts to make eyes at them.

The new host of Cachis is exasperated as DL and Aitor start dancing with the ladies and won't leave.

__

AT THE HOTEL

Povedilla is still under the bed, as the second gangster comes back with three women.

Montoya enters the hotel room and is dismayed by the chaos that he sees: the overturned furniture, the three guys asleep on the bed, the lost signal. He orders the men out of the bed, but Mariano has awoken with an erection. Montoya is told that they sent in Povedilla and he hasn't returned.

Montoya is dismayed to learn they sent in Povedilla into the room of the men who dismember people without rhyme or reason. He sits down on the bed, overwhelmed.

The GOAT walks past. Montoya doesn't have the energy to process the goat.

STATIC and MAYDAY start coming from the mike. Silvia and Pepa have connected to Povedilla.

SILVIA: I have you Jose-Luis.

MONTOYA: Povedilla! It's Montoya! I'm here to help you.

POVEDILLA: Inspector! We're not alone!

Nelson looks at his squiggly lines in horror. Povedilla begs them to come extract him. Montoya tries to come up with a plan.

MONTOYA: Is Pepa covering the front or is she taking a bath in the spa of the hotel?

PACO: She's in the van with Silvia.

MONTOYA: Is there someone in the fire escape?

No. Montoya sends Kike to take care of it. Povedilla starts to panic when the group starts having a group orgy on the bed.

The video starts to work. The bed starts bopping. Rita begs to be let in to help Povedilla.

MONTOYA: We're all going to go in. Silvia, cover the front. Don't let anyone in. I don't want any surprises.

SILVIA: Understood, Montoya.

He orders everyone to put on bullet proof jackets and to pick a weapon and ammo. Paco tells him they shouldn't go in – it'll be a blood bath. They have to think of something else. Montoya is done listening.

MONTOYA: Something else? Something else like what, Paco? Like to grab the goat and take a trip to the stars, Paco? Or some other stupid idea like that?

PACO: We don't even know if they're Gallarde's men or if they're assassins.

MONTOYA: Should I tell you what we know? That you've placed the life of one of your men in jeopardy. If they're not assassins better for them. Then nothing will happen. You've just screwed up yet another operation.

Pepa and Silvia, who have been listening, wince in sympathy.

The phone rings next door. One of the assassins picks up and confirms that they have Gallarde's box and they'll deliver it to him tomorrow.

MONTOYA: Silvia, confirmed. They're Gallarde's men. Prepare for a full assault.

The girls nod and get ready.

Paco and Mariano go into the bathroom and discuss what's going on. Mariano says they've been through worse than this and gotten out of it. Paco says it's because Lucas was there and always knew what to do.

__

AT CACHIS

DL and Aitor say goodbye to the ladies. The younger girl invites Aitor out, but Aitor won't leave DL. She kisses him goodbye. DL is thrilled when his lady calls him.

__

AT THE HOTEL.

Mariano and Paco call Lucas. Lucas tells him to go ahead with the plan and not to let Montoya charge into the room. They need to find out what's inside the box – otherwise it'll go to hell. Lucas reminds them to pick up Sara from the airport tomorrow.

Paco exits the bathroom and tells everyone to freeze. No one is going inside. Montoya tells him he's fucked up enough. But Paco holds his ground. He says they have a camera and they can save Povedilla but if they charge in they have the only evidence to get Gallarde. They'll save Povedilla but they need to wait.

Montoya asks him if he's done, and then tells them they're going in in thirty seconds. Paco tells them to stop. The men are torn, but Mariano makes the decision when he tells Paco that they'll go in when he dictates.

SILVIA: Paco, something's happening with Povedilla. Awaiting orders!

MONTOYA: Let's go in.

No one follows.

MONTOYA: That's a fucking order.

No one moves. Povedilla has waited long enough. He starts to disrobe and sneaks out from under the bed, shimmying toward the door. Everyone watches breathlessly.

Povedilla gets to the door and sneaks it open, waits a moment, and then jerks it open, standing in his underwear.

POVEDILLA: Dude! Dude, hey for the love of God, that's enough! It's 5AM and you left the door open and no one on the fucking floor can sleep! Keep it down or I'm going to go downstairs and tell the manager – I don't want to hear it again – that's enough! That's enough!

He slams the door, finally outside. The orgy watches, astounded. The assassins order the ladies out of the bed.

Montoya pulls Povedilla into the room. They embrace happily. Rita and Mariano hug in relief.

SILVIA: Everything in order, Paco?

MONTOYA: Silvia, everything's in order.

Relieved, Silvia and Pepa embrace. Povedilla gives Nelson a hug.

IN THE VAN

Pepa and Silvia pull back from their hug. Silvia's phone rings.

PEPA: I'm going to go up to see how Pove is.

SILVIA: Wait wait! [shows Pepa the phone] The doctor.

She turns off the radio and answers the phone. Pepa shifts uneasily.

IN THE ROOM

Povedilla starts to freak out when he left his clothes with his badge, his wallet, his ID, his freakin' address all in the room under the bed. And the picture of his little girl.

IN THE VAN

Pepa is no longer smiling as Silvia answers the phone.

SILVIA: Don't worry, I told you to call me anytime – I'm on a stake out. Well, we have good news. Pepa and I want to be mothers!

Pepa offers a weak smile.

SILVIA: Yes! Thank you very much.

Pepa exhales, trying to hold it together.

SILVIA: And that's why we wanted to talk to you. Okay, wait one moment.

She puts down the phone.

SILVIA: Is the thirtieth good for you?

PEPA: What?!

SILVIA: The thirtieth!

PEPA: Which thirtieth!?

SILVIA: The thirtieth.

She doesn't wait for Pepa to respond, and instead just lifts the phone again.

SILVIA: Sure, Juan, the thirtieth is great. The sooner the better.

Pepa can't believe it. Overwhelmed, she motions for the door and heads outside. Silvia is oblivious to her lover's obvious fury.

SILVIA: That's great. Great. And how are you?

IN THE HOTEL ROOM:

Montoya tries to reassure Povedilla that the Mexicans wouldn't have a reason to look under the bed, and Paco says when they leave they'll go in and get Povedilla's clothes.

Mariano notices they lost the signal.

Pepa storms in and nods shortly to Montoya.

PEPA: Hi.

She strides quickly and grabs Paco by the lapel.

PEPA: One minute.

She hauls him to the bathroom. Montoya shuts the door, and Mariano realizes there is still sound.

IN THE BATHROOM :

Pepa opens the door to the bathroom and runs into THE GOAT. At the moment, Pepa has no patience to process a goat in the bathroom.

PEPA: Paco, what the hell is that fucking goat doing here!?

Paco tries to stammer an explanation-

PEPA: Get it out!

Paco grabs the goat and leads it quickly out the door, shutting it out of the bathroom.

Pepa is now ready to explode. She starts to pace furiously.

PEPA: What an ego! She is an egotistical bitch, Paco! She doesn't care what I want or what I think or anything!

PACO: I don't know Pepa, but whatever it is, we can talk about it at the house-

Pepa's beyond reason.

PEPA: SHE WANTS TO GET ME PREGNANT, PACO! She wants to put a baby inside me! In one moment I went from being a girlfriend to a rented womb! What do you think about that!?

Paco is speechless, and removes his microphone.

__

IN THE ROOM

Mariano tries to get the signal.

MARIANO: Silvia, do you copy? Do you copy, Silvia?

SILVIA: Yes, I copy, Mariano, but what the hell does that mean, anyway? That's for radio aficionados.

Meanwhile Povedilla tries to appeal to Montoya.

POVEDILLA: I need a new identity for me and for my baby. A new position! You have contacts at Interpol! Or outside –

But the radio cuts in – and it's Pepa they hear talking. Ranting.

PEPA: Yes, I told her I wanted to have a baby with her. I did, but fuck!

Silvia and the others listen in.

PEPA: I had like 20 shots of Tequila. I was drunk out of my mind! And-and- I was all over her, and… you know me, Paco, I lose myself and… and… I can't remember anything! And today I can't remember anything, and I don't know why the hell I had to say that I wanted a baby with her! I have no idea!

Silvia's smile fades. The team listens in concern and sympathy.

In the bathroom, Pepa is still worked up, breathing hard as she vents to her brother.

PEPA: But it's that ego! It's that ego – to take to heart what a drunk person says – and she's taken it, Paco! She's grabbed hold of it and she won't change the subject for anything – and she wants to do it, Paco. She wants to have it and on top of all of that she wants ME to have it!

Silvia is so devastated she doesn't know what to do, but keep listening.

Pepa, emotionally spent, leans against the bathroom counter. Paco watches his sister, and gently tries to talk her down.

PACO: Pepa. Sister.

She looks at him through the mirror.

PACO: Come. Come here.

Unsteadily, she pushes from the counter and walks to sit next to Paco, trying to calm herself down.

PACO: Why don't you tell her that you don't want it? That you said it in the heat of the moment, that you didn't know what you were saying?

Silvia listens.

PEPA: I can't, Paco.

PACO: Why?

PEPA: Because it hurts me. It hurts me so much I want to die. Because she can't have one, and I'm her last hope.

Silvia fights back her tears. Montoya, the father of Silvia's unborn child, shifts in his emotion.

PEPA: And I feel like an egotistical bitch – because I don't want to inseminate myself with sperm from an anonymous donor for her. But it's just that it could be anyone! It could be a criminal or a crazy person or I don't know!

Rita nods.

RITA: That's true. There, my Pepa has a point.

CURTIS: No she doesn't. You go to donate and they give you tests that are extremely strict.

Povedilla blinks and stares at Curtis.

PACO: I know it would my nephew- my biological-nephew-grandson-in-law. And please don't let the donor be from our family but –

PEPA: Paco, what do I do?

PACO: I don't know. Pepa, honey, what do I know? I get where you're coming from but it's just…

He shrugs helplessly.

PACO: I think that we shouldn't do anything. Okay? And you have to think it over.

Pepa nods earnestly.

PACO: If it comes… we're going to love him … so very much.

Pepa smiles, touched.

PACO: But right now… right now honey this is a tough subject, I don't know… I'm sorry, but I just don't know.

Silvia, eyes brimming with tears, glances up to see the men leaving the hotel room on the monitors. She battles within herself, and finally speaks.

SILVIA: Attention: you have a greenlight.

Pepa and Paco stare in disbelief as the mike Paco has between them comes to life with Silvia's voice.

SILVIA: The Mexicans are leaving the suite and heading for the lobby.

Stricken, Pepa stares at Paco, realizing Silvia has heard everything. Silvia soldiers on.

SILVIA: Do you hear me? You have a green light.

Pepa is fucked. She grabs her head in horror, struggling to contain herself at the devastating awareness of what Silvia heard.

Alone in the van, with her dreams dashed, Silvia begins to quietly sob.

Paco and Pepa exit the bathroom.

PACO: I want everyone alert. I'm going to enter that room by myself. Okay?

Montoya offers Pepa a concerned stare, and says nothing.

AT DL'S

Aitor brings DL home, who drunkenly gloats that he got a number and Aitor didn't. Aitor happily goes to get him a drink as DL settles on the couch with the camera. He watches himself.

AT THE HOTEL

Paco sneaks into the room, closing the door behind him and carefully moving toward the box.

The door slams open. Paco whirls with his gun.

It's PEPA, gun drawn, not about to leave her brother alone. Paco retracts his immediately.

PACO: SHIT!

Pepa blows out her breath and shuts the door behind her.

PEPA: Paco, go, I'll cover you.

She heads in. The door opens again. They both swing in tandem, guns pointed at the door.

It's Mariano. Pepa begins to search under the bed for Povedilla's things. Soon everyone is spilling into the room.

PACO: Fuck, this looks like a stop on the Metro!

MARIANO: We're not leaving you alone, dammit. Either we all go in, or no one does.

Montoya is the last to come and shut the door.

MONTOYA: Silvia, where are they?

SILVIA: They're in the lobby. They're talking to someone in reception – it looks like they're looking for someone.

POVEDILLA: Me!

Pepa clears the bathroom.

POVEDILLA: They're asking about me, Inspector! You need to sneak me out in one of those laundry carts!

Paco goes to open the box, but Mariano stops him. They hear scratching in the box.

MARIANO: it's coming from in there. What the hell is that noise, Paco?

MONTOYA: Okay, easy, easy.

SILVIA: Careful! They're heading for the elevators!

MEANWHILE – DL watches the video.

SILVIA: Attention, they're coming up!

MARIANO: Paco, it's a fucking bomb! These people don't fuck around!

SILVIA: Paco you have 50 seconds.

They war with whether or not to open the box. Montoya instructs them not to open it. He wants to call a bomb squad and orders everyone out.

PACO: Freeze. I'll open it. Everyone out.

SILVIA: Forty seconds.

MONTOYA: Paco, you come out, or I take you out.

PACO: I said everyone out, dammit! I'll open it. OUT!

SILVIA: Thirty seconds, Paco.

Everyone is torn.

PEPA: Open the fucking box, Paco.

MONTOYA: Don't open it Paco! Everyone out! Curtis! Come on!

No one moves. Paco unlocks one hinge.

SILVIA: twenty seconds.

Paco hesitates, then opens the box. Nothing happens. They look inside.

Inside is a ROOSTER.

PACO: … it's a rooster.

DL keeps watching the video, growing more and more concerned.

SILVIA: Ten seconds before they're in the hallway.

MONTOYA: Out, out!

They shut the box. Everyone heads out, swinging into the hotel room. Pepa is the last to exit, shutting off the lights, and shutting the door.

She runs into the hotel room and shuts the door just as the guys come in the hallway, barely making it.

MEANWHILE – Aitor realizes DL is watching his video. DL is stricken at the realization that something is very very wrong.
