8x08: The Hit List

Previously on LHDP: Despite the fact that DL was suspended and Paco had a warrant for his arrest on him, Silvia decided she couldn't wait any longer and asked Pepa to marry her. Before she could give her an answer, however, they were interrupted as Aitor was poisoned by the Italian mafia. Silvia raced to find a cure and saved him in the nick of time, and ended a tiring day happily when Pepa said yes to her proposal.

Mariano and Paco, buried in the dirt by the mafia, were able to convince a little girl to call Curtis for them and give them their location. They were saved by the Hombres seconds before they were killed, and the members of the mafia were arrested.

LIZARRAN (AKA THE PLACE FORMERLY KNOWN AS CACHIS)

We open up on the group laughing and talking to each other. Everyone is there, dolled up and happy, having a private party for themselves. Sara has cut her hair. Rita and Montoya have an unspoken moment, and Sara watches her father.

SARA [VO]: My dad isn't a hero. He's spent 23 years on the force and he's never gotten a medal, nor has he ever been shot, nor has he ever had his picture in the paper. And it's not for lack of merit or valor, it's because my dad is a soldier, the type that fights in the trenches away from the limelight. He's tow-truck, and since we've came to San Antonio, he's loaded the whole precinct on his back and turned it into our family, a family he pulls along tooth and nail. Because his family, blood relatives or not, are his life. The life of Paco Miranda: my dad. My hero.

Paco interrupts.

PACO: Gentlemen! A moment. You know it's very hard for me to speak. [He grabs Mariano's shoulder] Two days ago, Mariano and I were buried up to our necks, waiting for a miracle. The miracle wasn't anything more than being able to take a walk, have some gelato – the Italian kind. But if not, we promised each other one thing.

MARIANO: Yes sir!

PACO: Yes. We were going to get our asses off the couch – we were going to get our asses off the couch! And this [he points to his gut] Gone! I promise you!

Everyone claps and cheers.

PACO: And I'm going to throw everything I've got into living, like it should be!

MARIANO: And gentlemen! We've decided, Paco and I, that we're going to go back to the way we were! Paco Miranda is going BACK on the market! The tiger of San Antonio!

Everyone claps and laughs, Silvia sensing the time is right, nudges Pepa forward. Pepa takes a deep breath and does what she's ordered. She steps to the front of the group, and gives her trademark whistle.

PEPA: Excuse me – Excuse me. Silvia and I wanted to make an announcement. Don Lorenzo, your daughter asked me to marry her.

His smile immediately drops.

PEPA: And I accepted.

RITA: Oh, how beautiful! How beautiful!

Everyone claps. DL is NOT happy. Silvia blushes, grinning.

PEPA: But, but – wait wait – [to Don Lorenzo] but I just wanted to tell you that from here on out, I'm going to do things right, and the way it has to be-

DL interrupts with a guffaw.

DL: You're going to do things-

He places his drink on the counter and heads for Pepa, glaring at her.

DL: You're going to do things right? For you, doing this right means shouting in here, 'Don Lorenzo! I want your daughter's hand in marriage' like you're ordering a calamari sandwich! Let's see-

Helpless, Pepa looks beseechingly at Paco, who winces in sympathy and silently advises her to withstand it. Terrified, she looks back at DL.

DL: You want the hand of my daughter, or would you like me to tell you what I have in mine? Should I tell you?

Silvia gets off the stool and comes up to her father, disappointed and hurt.

DL: The hand of my daughter, in mine, I have it right here –

He grabs Pepa's hand and Silvia's, and brings them together.

DL: In the hand of her fiancé.

Everyone breaks out in relieved smiles as DL finally breaks out in a happy grin, giving the girls his blessing. Silvia pretends to smack him for leading them on as the room claps happily.

Curtis is quietly devastated, but manages to hold himself together, clapping the loudest for them as they are congratulated.

DL: Long live the brides!

The group cries out for a kiss, and Pepa and Silvia are happy to oblige.

CURTIS: Leo! Let's get out of some beers and refreshments!

LEO: Like hell – Gentlemen, you'll have to save those snacks for tomorrow, because I have to close. Come on, start saying goodbye.

They do, Pepa and Silvia getting congratulates as the group filters out.

As DL leaves arm in arm with his new daughter-in-law and his daughter, Mariano and Paco are left in the café. They convince Leo to leave them the keys and let them close. She agrees, but as she goes into the kitchen, she is attacked and tied up by two Italian mobsters.

Paco and Mariano are ambushed by the Italian thug from before (the pretty one), who makes them get on their knees, execution style. Before he can pull the trigger, however, he is capped on the head with a chair by the other mobster, who turns out to be an undercover policeman who berates them for ruining 6 years of undercover work. He tells them to arrest him and shoot him in the arm.

When they waver, he does it himself.

THE BULLPEN

At the precinct, Rita, still trying to make amends to Montoya for sabotaging his relationship with Marga, offers him show tickets for him and Marga so she'll forgive him. Montoya tells her thanks, but no thanks. Marga was just a passing infatuation, and it's passed. Povedilla watches them.

Everyone has their attention perked when Marina Salgado, commander bad-ass, and Mariano's ex, heads down the stairs with DL. Mariano freaks a bit about how to approach her, since she didn't even divorce him because she didn't want to see him, but she ignores him and gets right into work. She tells Povedilla to bring up the 'suspect' for interrogation and to alert Pepa Miranda. She tells Montoya to come with them. Mariano asks how her father is. She replies that he died.

SARA'S APARTMENT

A knock on the door, and Sara lets in Silvia. They exchange kisses and hellos. Aitor watches from the couch.

SARA: What's up?

SILVIA: How's Mr. Poison?

AITOR: Better, but every time I laugh I get a splitting headache, but better.

SILVIA: Let's see. Take your prescriptions, your anti-inflammatories, with a bit of lemon juice, and in two days you'll be good as new.

AITOR: okay.

She squishes his cheeks. Sara holds up the dress bag Silvia carried in.

SARA: And what's this?

SILVIA: Well, guess.

Silvia gets up excitedly. Sara thinks, then-

SARA: No!

SILVIA: Yes!

SARA: YES?!

THE INTERROGATION ROOM

Salgado, DL, Montoya, Paco, Mariano, Pepa and the Undercover Cop file into the interrogation room.

SALGADO: Agent Miranda, make sure there's no one behind the glass, and that no one can get in.

DL nods his affirmation, and Pepa goes to do as she's told.

SALGADO: Please, Inspector Montoya, close the door, and remove his handcuffs.

MARIANO: Marina, I'm very sorry about your father.

SALGADO: Thank you, Mariano.

MARIANO: I always liked him. The little I spoke with him. Not because I didn't like to but with the mask and the respirator he couldn't really talk. … How did he die?

Marina glares at him.

MARIANO: Sorry, right. Because he was already sick. Sure.

Pepa comes back in and nods, standing guard at the window.

SALGADO: Before we get started, Mr. Commissioner, I'd like to know why I had to find out from Agent Trujillo about all this. This was a case against organized crime. You had an obligation to inform the CNI (National Intelligence Centre).

DL: I assume responsibility for the error-

JOTA: You have an error, and I get a shot in the head. Or maybe with bit of luck, a new identity in Cambodia for the rest of my life.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Silvia and Sara look over her wedding dress.

SARA: Wow. How beautiful!

SILVIA: You like it?

SARA: Yes! Please, it's beautiful!

SILVIA: It is, isn't it?

AITOR: What's all this? You get engaged the night before and you've already bought the dress, Silvia?

SILVIA: Well, I haven't decided that it's the dress yet! I have to try it on. Since it's the fourth wedding dress I've bought I need to make sure it's right. That's the price you pay for being the runaway bride of the family!

SARA: It's so pretty!

SILVIA: Can I try it on here so Pepa can't see?

SARA: Of course!

SILVIA: Great! I'll leave it here and try it on later.

SARA: Look, I already know what shoes I'm going to wear for the wedding!

She pulls out some purple boot thingies. (I'll never understand fashion.)

SILVIA: I love them. They're prettier than mine! I veto them!

SARA: Why?

SILVIA: So you can't wear them!

They laugh.

SILVIA: Well, kids, I'm going to the station.

SARA: I'll go with you and stop by the pharmacy.

Silvia kisses Aitor affectionately.

SILVIA: Take care of yourself!

AITOR: Yes.

Sara kisses Aitor goodbye (EW!).

SILVIA: Come on, let's go.

SARA: Bye!

AITOR: Bye!

SILVIA: Ciao, Pretty Boy.

INTERROGATION ROOM

SALGADO: Well, you know Agent Vidal Reus - Codename: "J" (Jota). He's been undercover in one of the clans for six years. Central already knew about the toxic dumping.

J: That was nothing compared to what we were really after. It was just the tip of the iceberg.

MARIANO: Well what we did they took pretty seriously, no? We almost got given our passports?

PACO: The arrest of Vittorio has hurt them a little bit, no?

J: You have no fucking clue where you're peeing. [To Salgado] With your permission?

SALGADO: Vidal-

But he's already pulled out the map and spread it out. It's a blueprint of the organization, top to bottom.

J: That little corner over there? That's the family of Galentes Montelado. The arrest of Vittorio doesn't mean anything.

IN THE COURTYARD

Silvia is in wedding planner mode.

SILVIA: Okay, now about the wedding invitations. What do I do with Aitor? Do I send him the invitation separately? Or the three of you together… I've got you with Lucas – and Aitor?

(Silvia's awesome) Sara is very bothered.

SILVIA: Oh, I'm sorry, Sara!

SARA: It's fine. It's just that I don't know what I'm doing, Silvia. I don't know where I am. Lucas is coming back in four weeks and I feel like a 747 in a nose-dive at 12,000m. I know I have to be with him until the end. I just don't know who it is!

Silvia hugs her confused, fickle, crazy niece.

INTERROGATION ROOM

SALGADO: This is our objective: El Gordo (the Fat Guy). The one pull all the strings.

MARIANO: The capo of the family?

SALGADO: This isn't your typical organization governed by families. I'm talking about a new form of modern mafia. With no number of legal cover businesses planted in Spain, able of laundering up to 60% of all their takings in Italy, through extortion, drug trafficking-

DL: Agent, tell us about El Gordo.

J: We don't know anything about 'El Gordo'. We don't know who he is, or where he lives. The only thing we know is that when he's fucked he kills, and you've fucked him big time. Here's 'El Gordo's personal hit list.

He drops the paper on the table.

J: And don't think that because you've arrested me he's going to back down. They will have already given this to a hired killer.

Paco picks up the list. He reads it.

THE BULLPEN

Curtis informs Kike and Nelson that they now have to wear bulletproof vests at all time, never be alone, and what not. Nelson makes a joke about Kike's sweat problems, but Povedilla is just annoyed that he's not on the list. Rita interrupts with a happy grin – there's a Spanish movie star, Santiago Segura, seated at her desk.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Aitor muses bitter sweetly about weddings, and how he had always wanted to marry Sara, but Lucas beat him to the punch. Sara asks him if he wants to marry her.

THE BULLPEN

Santiago Segura tells them he's being stalked by an anti-fan who doesn't want him to make a fourth sequel of his hit cop film. Curtis is skeptical. He thinks Santiago is lying to them to get publicity. He wants to hook up Santiago to a lie detector.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara continues the charade, saying she'd borrow Silvia's dress (EW! BOUNDARIES!) And tries to convince Aitor of it. Paco calls him and tells him not to tell Sara anything about the hit list but to keep her safe. Sara asks him to marry her (AUGH). He agrees. She tells him she's going to get ready and he has to take care of everything else. He smiles.

CANTINA MARIACHI

Paco runs into Marina at the restaurant, and she offers him a beer and to eat with him. He confesses to her that he feels responsible for all of this because he was trying to save Sara's marriage and that's how he found the uranium. Marina reminds him about the last time they saw each other, and she felt horrible but then realizes that at the end of things there's always another beginning.

Aitor closes up Sara's house and smiles, getting ready for their FAKE ASS ADULTEROUS WEDDING. Ahem.

Marina gives Paco a pep talk. They end up holding hands, but Mariano comes in and breaks up the moment. Paco gets a call – it's from the second in command, who tells him he wants a private meeting with him and to tell no one. If he comes, he can save everyone on the list.

THE INTERROGATION ROOM

Rita sets up Santiago to the lie detector and tells him his cop movies did make the police look silly. Povedilla is outside the glass and calls his mother to tell her he loves her. Rita confesses to Santiago the drama with Montoya. He tells her that's nice but he came here to get help with his stalker problem. Curtis comes in and says they're getting started.

Curtis refuses to believe Santiago isn't lying even if the polygraph says he's telling the truth. He's interrupted by a gaggle of press at the precinct, asking him if it's true that Santiago Segura has been arrested.

THE BRIEFING ROOM

Paco calls in J and tells him about the meeting. He wants his advice. J thinks they're going to kill him, but it's worth it just to get a glimpse of the second in command, Bravante. He tells Paco he has to go.

GETTING READY

Paco gets ready for his date with death, while Sara gets ready to marry Aitor.

(I mean seriously – really? They're trying to make a comparison? Paco is going to his death. Sara is committing adultery and making a mockery of her marriage to Lucas. I'M NOT BUYING IT, LHDP!)

Paco calls Sara and tells her she got her name because of a movie he and Lola saw, where the protagonist was named Sara. They loved the movie and she was conceived that night. So they named her Sara. Sara wonders if he's drunk. He lies and says he is, and tells her he loves her.

IN THE INTEROGATION ROOM – Curtis keeps giving Santiago a hard time.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara walks down the 'aisle' to Aitor, who is WEARING LUCAS' SUIT (AUGH!). He's made the room all pretty. They stand in front of the TV, and Sara wonders what to do. Aitor turns on the TV, and there he is, as minister, ready to officiate.

THE PRECINCT

Pepa, Silvia, Mariano, and company all stand around worriedly as Montoya enters.

DL: Okay, Mariano, don't fuck with me anymore. Tell me where the hell Paco is!

MARIANO: I haven't spoken more than four words to him all day! The last time I saw him he was eating with Marina at the Mexican restaurant, no?

SALGADO: They called him on the phone and he went running.

DL: But he came back! He has his things here! He came back! Someone had to see him!

MONTOYA: Well I saw him for a bit at 4PM. When Vidal went up to talk to the Commander.

SALGADO: I haven't seen J since this morning.

OUTSIDE – Paco heads to a park bench and sits down. He gets a call from the phone taped underneath the bench and is given further instructions.

DL sends Pepa to go get J. J is led into the room by Pepa.

J: Can someone explain to me why the hell I keep getting sent up here?

Paco keeps going.

SALGADO: Inspector Miranda left the precinct without his badge or his gun. We think it might have something to do with the case. Do you have any idea where he could have gone?

J: he's gone to a meeting.

Paco keeps going.

J: A meeting with Bravante.

DL: Who is Bravante?

Salgado points to his box on the map.

SALGADO: The second-in-command of the operation.

Everyone reacts.

Paco is instructed to go to a shopping mall.

DL: Are you telling me that you sent one of my men alone and unarmed to a meeting with a gang of Mafiosos?

SALGADO: J, did you give him a tracking device?

J: These people have technology to detect cameras, infrared, mikes – you couldn't monitor him.

Mariano gets a call from Lucas. He hangs up the phone.

Paco heads into a clothing store.

DL: You've sent my son-in-law to a killer- do you have any idea-

Pepa loses it. She grabs hold of J and shoves him.

PEPA: Where's the meeting?

She unclips her gun and aims it pointblank in his face.

MARIANO: Pepa…

PEPA: I asked you where the FUCK is that meeting?

SALGADO: Agent!

Pepa cocks back the hammer.

SALGADO: Lower the gun!

PEPA: Where?

J: I don't know.

Salgado points her gun at Pepa's head. Pepa doesn't waver.

SALGADO: That's an order!

Paco heads toward an exit.

DL calmly and carefully places his hand on Pepa's bicep.

DL: [kindly] Pepa.

TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: This is kinda a big moment. Usually DL calls Pepa: Maria Jose or MIRANDA, the fact that he's doing this and calling her by her pet name signifies he accepts her as she is. Good on you, DL!

Paco stands by as a motorcyclist comes for him.

With DL's urging, Pepa lowers the gun. J winks at her. Everyone glares at him.

DL: Tell me, you know these people. What is the possibility that Miranda will come back alive? How much?

J: Twenty percent. Maybe 25.

DL: this is your fault, Agent. Don't forget it.

Silvia buries herself in Pepa's arms. Paco rides off on the motorcycle.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara and Aitor start their wedding ceremony, but it's continually interrupted by Lucas, Sara's ACTUAL HUSBAND, who keeps calling Aitor's cell phone. The mood broken, Aitor tries to end the farce of a wedding, but Sara begs him to keep going, smashing his phone, saying she wants to marry him. They get 'married'.

THE PRECINCT

The hombres finally get their lunch when they're interrupted by Segura, and the man who was tormenting him. Everyone glares at Curtis, and Rita goes to Santiago and offers to get him a first aid kit for the whopper of a bruise on his eye.

THE MEETING PLACE

Paco meets with Bravante, noting every little detail and scar. Bravante shows him photos of the hit list, ending with Sara. He puts a picture of the Italian Mafioso they arrested next to it.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara and Aitor continue their fantasy, but are brought back to reality with a phone call from Lucas. Sara doesn't want Aitor to answer it, but he says that Lucas has called three times and he needs to answer it. Lucas tells Aitor that Paco left him a message, but no one will pick up the phone. He wants him to take care of Sara until he's come back. He's moved up his date and will be back in 10 days. Aitor agrees and tells Sara it's idiotic to continue this.

Sara tells him it's her wedding day and she wants to finish it right. They take it to the bedroom. LUCAS' BED. I'm just saying. Sara is a tool.

THE BRIEFING ROOM

Paco is back. Pepa clutches his hand.

PACO: Yes, it's true. I got a call from Bravante.

DL: You get a call from a mafia man wanted in several countries and you go in without protection or back up?

PACO: He said to go alone, Don Lorenzo. He wanted to negotiate, and I don't know, I thought I could do something to get us off the hit list.

DL: Without telling anyone in the fucking precinct, Paco?! What the hell were you thinking, son?

PACO: Don Lorenzo, he didn't' show. Nothing happened. Believe me!

In flashbacks, we see what really happened. Bravante gave Paco a marked bullet and told him to kill the Mafia guy, and in exchange he wouldn't kill Sara. If not, he would – he has until 10AM tomorrow.

DL: Paco, it's 7:05 – you spent three hours in the park alone, feeding the pigeons. Do you expect me to believe that?

PACO: I didn't look at the clock.

SALGADO: Paco, if you're in danger, we can protect you. I can activate the security protocol in ten minutes.

PACO: Thank you, Commander. It's not necessary.

J eyes him knowingly. Pepa hugs him fiercely.

SALGADO: Okay, try and rest. And if you remember anything, no matter how small it is, let us know. We'll hold on to the cell phone. We have to trace that call.

PACO: Of course.

DL gives him back his gun and badge.

DL: Miranda, take the agent back to his cell.

Pepa kisses Paco and gets up.

MARIANO: Are you okay, Paco?

PACO: Yes.

MARIANO: Are you sure there isn't anything you want to tell me?

PACO: Of course not, Mariano. Seriously I'm fine. I'm fine! Give me your car keys, okay? I'm going home to take a nap.

MARIANO: Go on, go home. The danger's passed, right Paco?

He leaves. J leaves and tosses him another knowing look. Pepa looks at him anxiously, but Paco gives his little sister a comforting smile and a wink. She smiles back and leaves.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara and Aitor make love. In SILVIA'S DRESS. And LUCAS' SUIT. Silvia BETTER get another dress from Sara.

THE PRECINCT

Paco enters the jail cell, and discovers Kike and Povedilla ready to take the Mafioso to the judge. He stops them and says he'll take him himself. HOT MAFIOSO GUY watches and realizes what's about to happen.

Paco leads the mafia guy out of the precinct. Curtis tries to apologize to Santiago but he tells him that the guy in the movies is a fictional character, and he's going to report Curtis for abuse of authority.

As he heads up the stairs, the HOT MAFIOSO sees him, and sensing an opportunity, convulses to the floor in a seizure. Curtis asks what's wrong and runs to him, giving the Mafioso an opening to take his gun.

HOT MAFIOSO [HM for short]: Freeze! Freeze!

He grabs hold of Santiago and puts the gun to his head.

HM: You, redhead, gun on the ground. ON THE GROUND! Okay come here!

He thrusts out his cuffed hands.

HM: Take them off. TAKE THEM OFF.

He pushes him away.

HM: If anyone gets close, I'll kill him!

He slides into an office.

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara wakes up and decides it's finally time to feel guilty. She eases out of Aitor's arms and leaves room. Aitor gets up (Naked, because we haven't seen enough of his ass lately), and with a gun, follows.

A FIELD

Paco drives the Mafioso to the field. The Mafioso isn't sure what's going on until he sees the marked bullet. He goes running, stumbling with his hands handcuffed behind him. Paco loads the bullet in his gun and follows him.

THE PRECINCT

The police on the floor hold up guns, taking cover.

HM: Stay back or I fire!

Rita leads out the civilians carefully, telling them to hurry. HM tells Santiago to shut the blinds. Santiago asks him if he's realized he's in a police station. HM tells him to shut up.

DL picks up the phone and dials into the office. HM tells Santiago to pick up and tell them that in 10 minutes he wants a car outside with tinted windows, a driver and a full tank; a load of ammo, and a large blanket. Santiago asks if he can write it down.

DL: Don't worry, we'll take care of every demand. Don't worry. [to Montoya] Montoya, I want a car with tinted windows and a big sheet.

MONTOYA: Povedilla, you're in charge of that.

DL: I want to you to make sure there are sharp shooters in front of my office, and get bullet proof vests for everyone here.

MONTOYA: Okay. Nelson. Kike. Let's go!

DL: Hurry, boys now! Silvia! Call for the GEOs!

She nods.

SALGADO: Commissioner, don't give him everything. Tell him that the car will take a while!

DL: He's asked for a car, not a helicopter.

POVEDILLA: Don Lorenzo, but protocol-

DL: Fuck protocol, get out of here! Go!

SARA'S APARTMENT

Sara sees the battered cell phone and overwhelmed with guilt, tries to put it back together. Aitor finds her and tells her he knows that this is only a one night deal, and goes back to bed. Sara sits down.

SARA: [VO: The first thing they taught us in the academy is that a hero is the type of person that has all the traits to end up in a wooden casket. What they never told us, was what it meant to be a hero.

THE PRECINT - Montoya comes back with Nelson and Kike and they pass out bullet proof vests. Silvia helps Pepa put hers on. DL gives Povedilla a vest.

SARA: [VO] And I think there are a lot of different types of heroes. The heroes with their code in one hand and their fear in their pocket. The ones that form a part of a unit, engrained to work together perfectly for the common good. The day to day heroes of the little things, capable of both good and bad, even sacrificing everything so that others will not suffer.

Aitor and Sara. J pulls up in the field.

SARA [VO]: The heroes of the night, who walk on the other side of the line, doing the dirty work, convinced that their deplorable acts are done because no one else would be able to do them. And finally there are those who have never wanted to be heroes. Those who were never told in the academy if it was right or wrong to shoot a murderer to save the lives of thirteen innocents.

THE FIELD - Paco follows Vittorio. Vittorio crawls. He tries to kill him as Vittorio begs for his life on behalf of his daughter. Paco breaks down into tears. Jota walks up and tells him it's not easy to shoot a man in cold blood. He offers to do it instead.

THE PRECINCT – Povedilla knocks. HM tells him to carefully push the box in to him. Povedilla does and closes the door. Rita helps him with his vest as they all wait.

DL calls him and tells him that the car is outside. Salgado again tells him not to let him leave the precinct. DL assures her he has no intention of that. HM tells Santiago to take off his pants. DL tells Salgado when he comes back, sharpshooters will kill him.

HM: I'm coming out! Turn off the lights! I said Turn off the Lights!

DL: Miranda, turn off the lights!

HM: Or I kill him!

Pepa gets up.

SALGADO: Commissioner!

DL: Don't worry. With the emergency lights we'll have enough light.

Pepa shuts off the lights, and slides Rambo style back into place beside Silvia.

THE FIELD - J tells Paco that he doesn't know what it's like not to be able to contact his mother or not to have family or friends or to change residences every couple weeks. He tells Paco to give him the gun. Paco refuses and says no one will die today.

THE PRECINCT - HM proves he's no dummy when he comes out with the sheet over him, obscuring who is who and foiling the snipers by only allowing them to see his bare legs.

HM: I'm holding a gun to this man! If anyone does anything idiotic, I'll fire!

DL: No one fire! You hear me?!

Curtis tells DL he's going to trade places with Santiago. DL tells him to stay put. Curtis heads forward. HM snaps back and knocks over a water bottle. Curtis says he's going to take off his clothes and approach very carefully.

Montoya covers behind him. Rita sees this and runs to protect him.

CURTIS: I'm not going to try anything. I'm going to get under the blanket.

HM: Don't even think about it!

He disrobes.

DL: Take positions! Now!

Curtis slides under the blanket.

CURTIS: Let him go! Take me and let him go!

HM: No one's leaving. Where's the fucking car I asked for – I'll kill them both!

Montoya tells Rita to forget about what happened with her cousin.

THE FIELD- J tells him Sara will die. Paco says he'll protect Sara, and J is only doing this to protect his cover. Paco hears crying from the trunk of the car. It's Mariano, who'd hid in Paco's car. They look out into the field and watch helplessly as J executes the mafia guy.

THE PRECINCT – Salgado warns DL that if they let him get the car both men will die. Dl says there's a tracking device on the car, and they can catch them in four minutes. Salgado says they'll die in three. Rita sees the damp foot prints and remembers Santiago talking about his flat feet. She also remembers that Curtis has weird feet.

As the guy comes down, Salgado tells them to shoot at the legs of the one in front. DL tells them not to.

THE FIELD – Paco runs down to the field with Mariano and beats up J.

THE PRECINCT – Rita realizes that HM is the one in the middle.

The group gets more and more agitated as they realize they're running out of time. Salgado says they have to do something.

In the field – J is SHOT. In the precinct – A SHOT RINGS OUT – Hot Mafioso stumbles back, shot in the chest.

SARA: [VO]: There are moments in our lives when we have to make a decision. To decide whether or not to shoot a man.

Pepa rushes to Curtis and cradles him close. DL tells Silvia to get her medical kit.

Everyone looks up - it's RITA with the smoking gun – the hero. Montoya smiles at her proudly.

IN THE FIELD – Paco and Mariano look for the shooter and we see Bravante and a lackey with a sniper rifle.

SARA [VO]: And to decide between light and dark. To decide between caring and not caring. And in that instant, everything can change. To make the right decision is what makes you into a hero forever.

Curtis and Santiago shake hands. Rita smiles, scared but relieved.

Mariano and Paco stand in the field with J's body, alone.
